Wine and Dine 2015

I got a chuckle at this post @flatlandcycle

I felt like I could hear your voice, well you know the voice we assign in our heads to other message board posters because we can't literally hear their voice, saying "underestimate the tenacity of marathoners, do you?" with this cocky grin and 'we will just see about that' kind of undertone. :rotfl2:

I mean honestly, jokes on them. This is a group of people trained/training to keep their bodies in motion for 1.5-3 hours to conquer 13 miles. Did they really think a $15 gift card was going to deter us?

Sorry, I sound exactly like Mr. Snuffleupagus.

That card is going to be like one beer and then something left over. How do I get the rest of that card, as a tip, to the barkeep?

RunDisney tends to get something wrong every year. Don't let this get to you unless you thrive on chaos...

The cynic in me thinks that this was a plan to reduce card redemption. So if I don't get what I was promised in the registration material I will call runDisney, email...wait for hours. Underestimate the tenacity of marathoners, you do?

Universal was going to charge me $1.50 for another K-Cup, in my room at Portifino, for the coffee machine. I walked to Starbucks in City Center and bought a box of K-Cups. Sometimes it's the little things. Sweat the details then you don't need to worry about the big picture.

I think you are 100% correct.

My neighbor is checking my mail on Thursday (she has to send me a bunch of other things since our good ole friends at the USPS haven't forwarded my mail yet. Ugh.), then I'm throwing in the towel on it. I refuse to wait more than 5 minutes in line for a gift card I'll probably just forget on race day anyway. I like the little bracelet-y one I got at F&W the other day better anyway.

I'm determined to get my two free beers from Disney- one post race and one from this card. After all, we paid for it. And I want what I paid for. lol

So I presume those of us outside the US just go to runner relations for the gift card? (or the specific gift card line is there is one...).

Also, I too asked re: Welcome Reception transport and it was a firm "make your own way".
Seriously? $199 per ticket and they can't even provide transportation? That's crappy.

That, and has anyone else noticed how they've reworded the description to point out MULTIPLE times that the food and wine pairings are "tapas-style". So, basically, $199 for four bites of food and small sips of wine and the opportunity to hand over more money on merchandise.

And the tickets are selling. Whoever came up with this is a genius. :rolleyes2

It's crazy to me that people are paying that much for this thing. Of course, if you are one of those people who buys up merchandise and then sells it for a big mark-up on ebay, I guess it wouldn't take much to get your money back on your investment. :(

I feel a little silly but I just ordered a box of Justin's peanut butter packets to bring with me to FL because I prefer natural peanut butter and they always have the processed stuff in the food courts. :D That is how dedicated I am to my pre-race meal! ;)

I always bring my pre-race food with me. I have a very solid stomach, but take no chances on race day.

^^ This. Venturing out tomorrow to visit a couple of running stores to pick up my supplies, since I didn't bother bringing any fuel/snacks with me.

I'm getting all of my fuels and little things on Saturday, but all my main packing is Tuesday. I can't believe this is so close already.

My mail was late today, I saw her arriving just as I was heading to work. So I have not checked yet. But sure hoping the gift card comes today! I do not want to have to wait in line. But I darn tootin will, rundisney!! :)

I will be at the expo at 10 on Friday. I usually always get my bib first, making it all real, and then head over for my shopping and then pick up my race shirt. But for some reason this time I am nervous that the merch I want will sell out! So maybe I will get that first and then the bib...these are the things I think about.

Fueling is all over the place with me. But, luckily pasta is my favorite food, hands down. So I have an ADR at via napoli at 4:30pm. That should hold me through the race. I may also grab a banana or a dessert or something to get my sugar up beforehand and force myself to eat it. I had a crash late at PHM so this time I am going to take 2 gels with me and take them earlier, so that should help also. I am running my last 12 tonight (hopefully!) and testing it out. I can't wait to taper! lol

Yeah, I just realized I should also get some oatmeal because I'm probably not going to be able to find food court oatmeal at dinner time. :D

At Tink, I really did not prepare well for pre-race breakfast. The night before the race, I was just like "oh I'll buy a bagel and a banana at Starbucks in DD and ask for pb instead of cream cheese and bring it back to the room, whatever." We headed back to the hotel after our dinner at Naples, only we got to Starbucks and I was able to get my bagel but they had no bananas and no peanut butter! I was pretty bummed about that, but then I remembered, we were staying on Katella and walking back and forth from our hotel every single day through the Grand Californian... surely they must have a food court in there! So we went hunting for it after we got my bagel and luckily we were able to snag the precious banana and peanut butter. :D

Yeah, I wish this thing would be a big flop and they wouldn't attempt it again. I hope they don't roll it out to all of the race weekends!

I bring my own peanut butter, bagels and coffee creamer from home. Always be prepared! :teeth:

Same for us. We always get bibs first but this time we are heading straight to the merchandise. Not a lot I really want, but I'd be disappointed to miss out on the couple of items I DO want.

I've decided to try to be zen about the merchandise and take what comes. If things are sold out, I'm just going to take it as a sign that my wallet is being saved from my spending urges :) I may have peaked a bit too early on the training. I did my last long run last weekend (11.5 miles) because this past weekend was the marine corps marathon 10k. I did it with a friend, had a great time, and managed a 10k PR! The race had great logistics, but was super crowded. So good practice for Disney. And now I have a new PR to use for POT for future races. I had been trying for this PR earlier to use it as POT for this race but the 10k's I did in April and June were too hot for me. So I'm really happy with the way this one went. There was rain but the temps were only in the 50's and there was very little wind.

Does everyone typically wear their magic band during their races? Or do you have someone meet you with it after the race?

During Princess this past year, I ran with my magic band on for the 10K and Half. I had no problems with it bothering me during the race.
