Wine and Dine 2015

Got my long run in even though it was 2 days late. Tried going out on Sunday and the rib was still too sore. Went out again Monday to do my Tuesday easy pace run and after about 25 minutes the soreness went away (it's just very tight in the morning) I had enough time this morning to put in 2 hours and got in 12 miles in just over 2 hours. Very happy that my fall didn't cause me to miss a run. Once I juggle my other 2 runs this week around I will be back on track!

To me, with the verbiage, it sounds like they couldn't (or don't want to) come to an agreement with the Osborne Family to renew the contract. The "Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights" may be closing, but that doesn't mean that the lights won't pop up someplace else on property under a new, more Disney-fied name. They are extremely popular and do help put folks in the holiday mood

Sadly, a member of the family posted on the lights thread over on the theme parks board that disney had met with them and given an inventory of all the lights being returned :( He also said that disney flew out to them in person to tell them of the decision. So at least they did that the right way. Still heartbreaking though. I hope disney puts up another light display somewhere. But, I don't know. It almost would feel cheap since you know where they got the idea.

It would be in poor form to cancel the lights and then just throw them out or keep them, especially if the Osborne family wanted any for sentimental reasons.

And that's part of what Disney does, they take an idea, add magic and make it their own. They even said so much at D23 this year when they announced Jack and the Beanstalk.

Great news!!

Well well well. Couldn't figure out why my times were so awful compared to previous years. Finally stepped on the scale this morning and looks like I packed on about 15-20 pounds more than I did just even last year. Time to really kick the training into high gear and cut the calories down some to get things back on track. I've never been the best with training just doing the bare minimum because I lived a pretty active lifestyle working a shift job on my feet all day. Now that I'm at a desk I'm realizing just how much of my activity came form work before. I hope I can pull it off in the next month and a half and be okay by race day. Not looking for a PR just to finish.

Agreed, I am very glad they personally went out to notify them and not just make a call. I do think they are handling it well. But with these lights, I guess my feeling is if they tell them sorry we are done with yours (from the son's posts it appears they were surprised by it, so not sounding at least like a contract dispute) and put up either the exact same type of display or a very small display in another area or post construction, my mind goes to what the heck disney a la cutting a lot of musical acts lately on the rumored assumption of being able to pay new acts less. Now, if they go nuts and blow a new display out of the park, fantastic! I am on board. Because it wouldn't seem right had they wanted to change the original display drastically, so not bringing them back makes sense.

So I hope you are right and they make it their own. But, I am afraid it is just another cost cut with a less than replacement.

*end rant. Here is my money disney. You know I will come back anyways.

Thanks guys! :) What I actually meant was "are the lights on" :) That sounds like it will be cool to run through them!
They've been on the last 2 years! :)

I guess I never really thought about this - but are they just lit, or do they dance as well? I think I read that the snow and dancing effects were turned off for safety reasons. I guess that *could be distracting. haha.

Oh - and also does anyone remember seeing CM's around that area that could take a photo? Or is it purely begging fellow runners?

Don't remember if they were dancing. Stuff moved through, from what I remember.

Again, don't remember. But I do know CMs were there saying "welcome to Christmas!" when we arrived. :)

He was near me during the marathon in January too! He stopped and did push-ups at one point. :teeth:
I also remember seeing the Richard Simmons lookalike during the marathon.Apparently there's a lot of people who have the same persona during each of their races.I ran the Florida Storm series last season which is 5 races in Florida and if you do 3-5 of the races you get extra challenge medals for your 3rd,4th and 5th race.I ran all 5 and during all 5 races ended up running several miles next to the same guy wearing a huge green wig,it was like by the third race I was looking for him and amazingly I saw him near me on all the races.

Turns out I used Joey Fatone from *NSYNC as a pacer back in Jan at Star Wars! Didn't realise it was him until the end of the race when I heard another runner mention it!
