Wine and Dine 2015

Nice! I will have to get that app next winter. :) Although I wonder if my Garmin would handle it better... the one I have has functionality to learn your running pace/stride and let you use it on a treadmill without the footpod. I am guessing it would work just as well on the indoor track. I didn't have that before... I was just using my phone.

I have a Garmin 220 now too. From what u have found, it still doesn't keep up. If I walk, it really doesn't track any distance. Maybe yours will work better or maybe I should try mine again, since it has a lot more outdoor runs on it now.

Week one of training is officially done. I inconveniently have a stye and had to sport glasses instead of contacts so that was annoying, and why I pushed my run to today in hopes it would be better. No such luck so just had to get it done. I realize I should probably get some sunglasses that are like sport ones so they don't slide down my nose, but fortunately I do most of my running in the morning.

It was brutally hot out there today! I think with the heat index it's supposed to be about 108 today. Yikes! And we are supposed to go to a baseball game this afternoon! They're forecasting a really hot week ahead as well. Gotta stay hydrated throughout the week so I'm ready to run!

It was pretty hot here as well. I managed to get out the door around 9:45 am, and it was already 80 degrees. I don't typically bring water for runs up to 5 miles, but I was glad that I thought to grab a hand-held bottle this morning and fill it with ice water. I think I'm going to have to do the dreaded pre-work morning run at least once this week and maybe one evening run at the gym on the dreadmill.

Well I ended up paying more for my Garmin than I planned but still got a good deal, I think. Someone jumped on at the last minute of the auction and bumped the price up. I got lucky that the time was running out as I had set my high bid without my glasses on and entered $5,500 instead of $55! Ended up paying $67 for a brand new Garmin Forerunner 10, which was cheaper than amazon. And she already mailed it. :)

Bad news is during my Saturday run my treadmill suddenly started making a horrible screeching noise so I cut my run short at 1.75 miles. My DH is out of state visiting my step daughters in NC so I have to wait for him to get back to check it out for me.

Yikes, glad it didn't end up going to the $5500 mark! That still a really good price you got it for :) My first week of training didn't go exactly as planned since I sprained my ankle a couple weeks ago. I skipped days 1 and 2 but went out and did a 5k Sunday morning. It was probably the slowest 5k I've done in 6 months but at least I did it. My ankle is healed so I'm hoping week 2 goes better than week 1.

Today was a rough day here too. Almost a minute slower than my usual pace over 4 miles. I get a little grumpy during those runs, but I'm still glad I did them afterward.

I was in the same position the other day. We've had hot, humid weather and the corn fields along my route blocks any breeze! Our heat index right now is 103° which I usually love but it's really interfering with my training.>:(

Week 2, Day 1 run done! I'm proud of myself for getting out and getting it done this morning, since I really did not want to get out of bed. But I knew I would regret it later if I didn't, and now I feel so good to have it out of the way for the day. Now I'm off to meet my mom at the mall in a little while. :) I felt like I really struggled through this run (I felt really slow) but my Runkeeper ended with about a similar pace as normal (even a bit faster). Pretty interesting. I'm definitely hoping to keep this morning run thing going throughout the rest of my summer vacation before school starts back up. :)

I'm also hoping my Garmin watch comes in the mail today. The tracking yesterday updated to say it arrived at the local post office, so it's close! If it doesn't come today, it should hopefully come tomorrow. I just want to get it before the Thursday run.

I was lazy this morning. We got in late after a work function and I really did not want to get up and run (especially with 90% humidity). So now I have to either suffer through the heat this evening or drive over to the gym and do my 45 minutes on the treadmill. Probably for the best, since I didn't really have anything appropriate in the house to eat before a morning run.

Hooray for official training! And good job to all getting started!

Technically, I guess I'm training at this point, though nothing's really changed from last month, lol! I've been doing the same schedule since March: 2-3 short runs + 1 long run per week, with the long run 7-10 miles every other week. I won't start building much beyond that until Sept. because it's summer in coastal FL... my only priority is not dying from heat or sun stroke. ;) Mid-July and I haven't had a nice rain run yet - it was 80 with a feels like of 87 before the sun even rose Sat. - 90 with a feels like of 110 by the end of my 10 miles. Brutal!

But I bought a flotation belt and have started pool running... it's GREAT!!! So much more comfortable, even in my 95* pool. I've been doing one short run per week in the pool and after my last long run, I think I'll start breaking those up to do 8 on land and the rest in the pool. :thumbsup2

I didn't make it this morning either but I'm hoping to head out to the track at a local high school with some friends this evening. Unless it rains and in that case it will be the treadmill.

My run felt the same way but also was one of my faster runs. It wasn't too hot out yet, in the 70's, but it was SO HUMID. I was dripping sweat within minutes of starting. I was glad to get it over with because now the sun is out and it's hotter.

I think it also felt hard because I am starting to feel the effects of actually doing all my workouts. :) It's been a long time since I mostly did all my planned runs and cross training all in one week. Probably since like February! I was really bad about making all my workouts during Tink training in March and April, sometimes just due to being tired, but we also started dealing with a lot of health issues with our dog (found out he had cancer, he had surgery, lots of appointments for that) and I was just skipping stuff left and right. The only stuff I managed to do every single week was my Saturday run and my Monday step aerobics class. Then after Tink was over, I started taking it a little easier and just keeping up fitness for my proof of time race in mid-June, and from then until last week, I was only running 1x a week, ~4 miles on Saturdays, and trying out some cross training stuff during the week.

Now I have settled into: Mon (step aerobics), Tues (run), Wed (spin), Thur (run and BodyPump?), Fri (rest), Sat (long run), Sun (rest or BodyPump)

I really want to keep BodyPump in there so I can get strength training in, but it's hard to fit in. I didn't make it last week to either one. :(

:wave2: there! Please don't die from heat or sun stroke! I don't envy your having to train during the summer in FL! The pool running is a pretty awesome idea though for beating the heat! For me it's time for Powerade "slushies" (or icee's or whatever people call them) after my long runs. It's the only thing that cools my core down in the summer. (And I'm only talking 80s, so you can eye roll at me anytime).

Congrats to all you disciplined wine & diners who have already gotten their first run in this week. I was going to run yesterday but I spent the whole afternoon chasing after my son who is learning to ride a 2-wheeler bike. So I'm counting that as my cross training day instead and plan to run tonight. However, DH just emailed me that he might actually get out of work on time tonight and would I like to go out to dinner.... So perhaps I'll have to get my butt up early tomorrow and run instead. So much for my "discipline is doing what you don't always feel like doing to achieve your long term goal" speech I gave DS yesterday.... :confused3

I keep seeing all of these "in training for x race" shirts for the other RunDisney events, but I don't recall seeing any for purchase for Wine & Dine. Did I just miss it? Why is W&D left out of the fun?

I think they just started them with the 2016 races - which, I have no idea why they didn't go for the cash grab with them years ago.

Ah, I didn't realize they were new. Kind of a shame since W&D is so late in the year anyway that they couldn't do one for that as well. Hopefully my husband will enjoy W&D and I can convince him to do it again next year!

My Garmin watch came! I got it all set up and am charging it, and now I can't wait to use it on a run!

If I enjoy W&D, I would love to sign up for it again next year, along with the Disneyland half (pretty much the only DL race I have any possibility of doing, with a teacher's schedule). I have this grand idea of trying to go for Coast to Coast in 2016. It's a longshot and likely won't happen, but I can dream, right?. :D

Hiya Figment! Ooo, the slushies sound yummy - I may try that! And no eye rolling here: 80s is darned warm! Honestly, I feel like everything over about 85 feels the same anymore: freakishly HOT.

Go get that run on; you'll be glad you did! :)

I agree, I feel like anything above 80, especially with humidity, is just HOT when running. I did make it out for some track work today. Thankfully, I managed to hit the sweet spot before it started to rain but after it started to cool off.

I ended up doing W&D this year for C2C because I am from New England, and was going out to CA to do Tink with some friends from a weight loss forum. I got to thinking that since I was going all the way out to CA for that one, then I should do W&D this year because I don't know when I'll make it back to CA.

I feel like I'm going to be a little spoiled with my first two runDisney races being Tink and W&D. I was browsing the Tink 2016 thread and someone had mentioned that they thought the W&D course was the best half course and Tink was second. I'm sure that's subjective, but I did like the Tink course (well... the first half of it anyways, before you go out into the streets of Anaheim :)), and the W&D course looks pretty awesome! I am hoping that maybe there's a LITTLE less construction in my favorite park, AK, in November. We were there last December and the whole place was covered by walls!
