Wine and Dine 2015

Well I checked on the race's website and on the USATF site and couldn't find either of the local 10Ks I'm interested in. So, I'm assuming they aren't certified that I can find. If runD says it must be certified, then I'll contact the race organizers for one last final check.

We are finally warming up here too. Yay!!! We got a good 11-miler in on Saturday getting ready for the Bentonville half in a couple of weeks. It felt so good to run outside again!

FWIW my qualifying time for GSC 2014 and 2015 was not USATF certified. Maybe it's a regional difference thing, but where I live it is hard to find a 10k course that is certified. I contacted rD before I needed to submit a time in 2013 for my 2014 GSC. They said the results have to be certified, not the course. That means an official time must be recorded and the course has to be an official length. They told me it does not necessarily have to be USATF certified. I have no idea how they verify the non USATF results. But, they ask for the website link to your results with your proof of time. Perhaps there is some poor intern who has to go and check all these races to make sure they are legit. My 10k race has been run for 15+ years and a professional timing/race management company times the race and posts the results. But it's run in New England at a time of the year where weather can force a course alteration, so perhaps that's why they don't bother to have it USATF certified.

Think of international runners - they certainly aren't running USATF certified courses the majority of the time!

I'm definitely not saying it's not worth checking with them on, and keeping the emails for back-up if you run into trouble, but I can say my race was not certified, but it was accepted by rD.

And I got in my first outdoor run in almost 2 months today! I didn't do too much (a little less than 3 miles) due to feeling a possible cold coming on and not wanting to overdo it right away, but it was so nice!

I ran for the first time since Princess today. I have seriously been slacking. I told my husband that's why I have to sign up for W&D…I need motivation. Races are motivating!

Wooo! Way to get out there you guys.

This was me yesterday. My first run since Star Wars in January. Went out again today, and it was not a good run for me. I only got 2 miles of actual interval running before I had to cave and walk the rest of the way. Hopefully I can keep going so I'll be somewhat prepared for Tinker Bell in May and then keep things going so I'll be ready to go for W&D.

I ran 2.5 and then rode my bike for 5 miles today. Going to repeat that on Thursday and then ... (gulp) my first-ever half marathon on Saturday!

To say I'm nervous right now is a complete understatement ...

You're gonna do great!! Just remember that. Can't wait to hear how it goes.

Not gonna lie, I'm beyond freaking nervous. And it's only Tuesday!! I know the nervous-cry is going to happen ... I'm guessing tomorrow, or maybe Thursday after packet pickup. Just as long as it's done with by Friday so I can rest and get ready.

A lot of us have been there. I was terrified before mine. I had never done more than 3 miles before (not a good idea, but I did it anyway) and I already have super high anxiety. Pretty sure I gave myself a few panic attacks. Just had to keep telling myself I could do it, I could do it! Even if I had to walk most of it, I could do it. If the nervous-cry comes, let it. And then remind yourself you'll be great. And come talk to us about it!

My husband and about eight of my closest, best friends are running as well. But they're also a lot more in shape and faster than me, so they'll be done in good time. It's a capped field of 800, so yeah ... I may come in last. But I WILL finish this race!

Last one to the finish, still made it there. Sounds like you'll have a great support system there even if they all finish ahead of you, you'll have them there at the end to celebrate with.

I will say that's the one thing I still really regret about my first half. It was just me myself and I for the most part. Most of my events are. I see how great a time everyone has with people close to them and I get a little envious. The one time I tried it didn't go all that well. Hoping for a much better experience this time around.

I "ran" my first-ever 10K with my husband, and my parents were there to cheer us on.

But husband never made it back to the finish line to see me (he finished 20 minutes ahead of me), and my parents got stuck on the wrong side of the finish line, so I didn't even get to see them. I know it was "just" a 10K, but I feel like my heart could've used that little boost of someone at the finish before I hit the chute and just had people shoving things I didn't want in my hands, like chocolate milk (seriously?! who wants to drink that when they're all hot after running?!?).

I've already told my best girlfriend that when I finish this thing, don't be surprised if there are a lot of tears. She's promised to be ready with two beers and a Kleenex. Does she know me or what? ;)

@Keels you will do great! You've put in the training and that's the hardest part IMO. And I thought the same thing about chocolate milk but it's my go to after long runs. It supposedly helps with muscle recovery. I usually don't drink until after water/Gatorade about 30 min to an hour after the run is complete.

Can someone tell me what kind of 10k time I would need to submit to be in a decent corral? I normally run a 10:30-10:45 min/mile. Will this get me an ok placement or do I need to seriously train before May for my 10k?
IMO there is no "good" 10K time; the best 10K time to submit is one that you've run. That's all that's needed to be seeded in the proper corral for your individual pace. And that's what you want - to be placed among others who will be traveling at roughly the same pace as you. Speaking from the experiences of being seeded in a corral that was faster than my individual pace, in a corral that was overall slower than my individual pace, and in several that were good fits for my pace, the best was the latter, by far. :thumbsup2

But I WILL finish this race!
EXACTLY! :cheer2:

Hooray! During PHM weekend I was looking around and the light tunnel and some of that back area that we ran through for TOT still looked intact (from a distance, of course). But then, they also moved the pre-taste to Indy instead of the stunt show...at the very least I think they would rearrange our course. But most likely we will wait in suspense until the race packet and course is finally released in ooooh 7? 8 months? lol.

Also, that "complimentary" beer or wine...would that be the $15 gift card we are getting?

It has NOT been in the past. They have a row of carts handing out cans of beer, soda and 'glasses' of wine. You get to choose one.

As silly as it is, that actually makes me really happy. I am slowly trickling down that $200 fee saying oh but I get this too!

Good find on that photo!

It is expensive at first glance. If you break it down, it is more manageable. Half marathon, tech shirt, after party, gift card, free drink, MEDAL. :clown:

The last few posts have me even more excited than I was before...less than one week until registration! Eeeek

That's good to hear and makes sense. Both 10Ks I'm looking at are run by a local timing place and chip-timed with results available online so that should work. Nor reply yet from rDisney but hopefully they'll say the same.
