Wine and Dine 2015

I have a 10k on Saturday that I am using in place of the 3 mile training run. I was also planning on using it for my PoT for Princess. I just found out that it is SUPER hilly! I knew it was a little hilly when I signed up months ago, but was just told it is like Silver Dollar City hilly, for those that have been there! It is in an amusement park I have never been to, in another town. AND it has a 15:00 mm pace requirement, that I did know about. We shall see how it goes, lol!

It also has a 11:00 am starting time. I'm thinking of sleeping late and just doing my normal breakfast (toast with p/b) when I wake up and maybe a Honey Stinger Waffle about 1/2 to 1 hour before race time... Does that sound like a good plan? I am VERY nervous as this will be my first race! Every other race I have been registered for I ended up getting injured and not being able to run.

Has anyone changed hotels AFTER their MagicBands have shipped and been received.

I'm asking for a friend ... :crazy2:
We are changing hotels after the race weekend from POFQ to OKW. We received 2 sets of magic bands. Of course one was booked through rD and the other through DVC, so that's probably why we have 2 sets.

Split stays you usually get 2. If you do it again when you get to chose your MB you can now click decline MB and it will let you use the others that you already have.

I know KT is always at the expos~ I see people with KT tape often. Do they help you learn how to apply it at the expo before the races?

There's youtube videos for KT tape - for every injury you can imagine. I know how to tape for most things but if I don't, or if one type of taping isn't working, I'll youtube it and try something different!
Sorry I'm so behind. It's impossible to keep up here!!!

Just be sure you are careful. You don't want to end up hurt so close to W&D!! I would stick with your normal pre-race food like you are planning. 11:00 AM is a bizzare start time.

And, I hope for your sake it isn't really as hilly as Silver Dollar City. Yikes!!! We're local to SDC and I've walked those hills many, many times in my life. No way I want to do a 10K on hills like that.

A question from DW: how large are the gEAR check bags?
HUGE! I once stuffed the following in: a foam roller, pair of shoes, extra shirt, capris, sweatshirt, a couple Clif bars, hand towel, extra pair of glasses, and a backpack. That last one is key: the gear check bags can be quite flimsy. You can for sure stuff 2 pair of shoes and changes of clothes in there, but I strongly suggest also packing in a backpack or tote bag because the gear bag may well fall apart with that much in it when carrying ti around post-race.

For those who have run in a costume before that included ears; how obnoxious does that ear headband get after a couple of miles? I was thinking of doing an Eeyore costume but I'm not sure about the ears...
They make me batty: a 10K is my limit. But headbands tend to pinch my head and cause migraines, so YMMV.

So how about you? Why do you run?
Because it feels good and makes me happy! It really is that simple for me; this formal racing/training for distance stuff is relatively new, but I've been running pretty regularly since 2nd grade just because I enjoy it. :)

The bag-within-the-bag is a good idea because the gear bags definitely aren't the best quality. I ripped mine at the seam at the Tink expo. Good thing I wasn't planning on using it. :)

I actually just was cleaning off my dresser last weekend and came across the bag with some of my stuff still in it from Tink. :o Here's a photo of it with a 10 lb cat for reference. :)

It's only for one night, so we don't have to worry about DME or anything. Just saw the passholder rate for AKL and it's less than $100 more than what I paid for POP. Of course, it's not an official race hotel which means we (I mean, my friend!) would have to drive after the party ... kind of defeating the purpose of the hotel.

Hum? What will road closures be like for Animal Kingdom Lodge near race time? Maybe being at EPCOT before 8 PM is good enough to avoid closures. Also If volunteers are parking at Blizzard Beach, W. Buena Vista Dr. can get backed up. You may need to use Sherberth Rd to Rt 192. I don't like to stay where I might be cutoff by the race course...

Double bagging probably isn't a good idea. Security wants to be able to see everything in your clear, issued, bag without opening it. Rolling an empty tote would most likely be okay. The bags are flimsy. One year working the expo, we had many torn bags before they left the building.

I use the backpack or tote to carry everything going into the race and pack the folded gear bag in the backpack/tote. Security will go through all bags, clear or not, and I find it easier to lug around a sturdy bag. When I'm ready to check my stuff, I bring it over, see if they want to look through first, then stuff the backpack/tote into the clear bag and hand it over. When I pick up after the race, backpack/tote comes out of the gear bag and I'm all set. Easy! If they ever decide they want all things loose in the clear bag, no biggie - I'll just pull it all out and stuff the backpack/tote in empty.

So how about you? Why do you run?

For me, it's because I can. And I love to dress in costumes. :teeth: (The video on this page "http://jusrun.com/races/rockinreindeer" shows us in costume, around second 29. We were the reindeer. :rolleyes1)

Blew out my knee in September 2012, and spent six weeks on crutches and six months in PT after the repair (replacement parts!). To get back into shape, I wanted to see if I could run. Never was a runner, not built for it. But I have now completed 13 half marathons and a handful of 5 and 10k events. I'm not fast, but I'm out there doing it, and loving that I can. I have a running shirt that says, "Someday I will not be able to do this. Today is not that day."

You can also double up the clear race bags within each other to carry both of your things in. Makes it a little sturdier. Just put the corresponding sticker with the number of the race bib of the person picking it up on the outside bag. We've done that before~

Thanks! Yes, I will be super careful! I have been quizzing people at work all day who have been to this park (Magic Springs) and have since been told it isn't nearly as bad as SDC. So Yay, lol! I have been to SDC once and I remember a really long climb by the wedding chapel and was REALLY hoping that it wouldn't be anything like that! It sounds like a super fun day though so while I'm nervous I'm really looking forward to it. We are driving up tomorrow night to do packet pick up and are spending the night instead of driving back Saturday morning. After the 10k there is a "Roller Coaster 5k" where you ride the distance of a 5k on roller coasters and earn a medal. DH is doing that with me. Plus the race gets you a park ticket to their "Magic Screams" Halloween party. So it will be an all day thing. :)

Oh, and there are showers available to runners in the park for after the 10k! They have a water park within the amusement park, so we get to use their facilities as they are closed for the season. :)

Welp. If the gift cards don't get here tomorrow, I guess I'll have to get ours reissued at the Expo. Oh wells - I was hoping to have them in hand before so I could add $$ to both of them once I arrive in Orlando this weekend.

Also, I know this is going to sound dumb, but I packed all of my HRC medals to take pictures with in Diagon Alley/on the Hogwarts Express when we go to Universal ... :teeth:

On the website it says they will be mailed three weeks prior to the event. So they probably haven't been mailed yet :)

Le sigh. I figured. I left a message with RunDisney to change the mailing address on them, but oh well.

This is what I get for leaving for Florida three weeks before the race! Ha.

So when you look at yourself and your journey that is running I ask why exactly do you run?

I think I picked up the bug from my Dad who trained for the Iron Man back when we lived in Hawaii when I was little. I tried to start running in fits and starts. A charity walk here, walking at marathon there. Something about Disney just makes the training more accessible than some random local race, so I decided I was going to run the Tinker Bell Half in 2014. Training started out strong, but I petered out before the end and ended up walking the last half. This go round I aim to do better and finish stronger. The Why is many reasons: to lose weight, to finally finish something I start, to have fun, and to do something I've always wanted to do. :)
