I just needed to post on here that exactly 60 days from now we will be arriving at a pool home for our first ever offsite stay in Windsor Palms. We have to keep the talk to a minium in our house my almost 5 year old has no concept of time and almost drove us all to the nut house before our last trip in August because we told him too early:) I knew I could come here and you guys would share my excitement!!!

LOL! I do understand that!

Mine used to do that when he was about that age, now I can tell him a YEAR before and he's too :cool2: coooool to act excited.. he's 14.

Have a great time at the WP. I remember when they were first being built and fell in love with them back then. Since then my friend built a house there! I'm soooo jealous, I can't WAIT to move to Florida!

60 Days!!! :cool1: :cool1:
I am so excited for you!!! I wish I could go with you! We have to wait till May it seems so long from now! :sad2: But I will live through your excitement!

That's awesome! I just got back from our home in Windsor Hills last night, it was SO nice I didn't want to leave! I can definitely relate to the pre-trip excitement of heading down too! Now I have to wait until April until we go back ! LOL

My one suggestion, bring along a few DVDs....I drove around for an hour on Sunday night looking for a video rental store, couldn't find ANY nearby, with every other imaginable place you can think of on US-192 why on earth isn't there a Blockbuster? LOL

We'll be there around the same time -- we are so excited. We just decided a few days ago to take this trip. It was going to be NO Disney this year, since we have a long summer trip planned to the U.K.. But the weird Maine winter is killing us -- mild mild mild, and now freezing cold.

Have you ever stayed offsite? After trying it every which way (see signature), it is now our preferred way to do Disney (and Universal, and Sea World, LOL).

Our very first time staying in a pool home was in Windsor Palms.....after that we were hooked! I had a wonderful experience with two different owners in WP and I hope you have a wonderful visit.

Thanks everyone for the positive words and sharing in my excitement!! We usually stay onsite but the last 5 summers have stayed in a condo in Panama City Beach, FL. Now we have a very hard time staying in a regular hotel room. We were just in Disneyworld in August for a week so we are not looking to run the parks everyday but to get out of this very cold weather and have some fun. We are planning a very relaxing week. One day at Magic Kingdom, one day at Typhoon Lagoon, then some time at Downtown Disney and hopefully lots of pool and fun time:) We also made this decision kind of last minute. We have never travelled during Spring Break and thought it would be fun to try. We only started looking on Jan1st and had it booked within a couple of days. Initially we were very worried about staying offsite but thanks to all of the positive reviews of this area we are getting so excited and wish we were leaving tomorrow!!

5mins2disney: Thanks for the heads up about DVD's. Thank goodness this isn't a problem since we will be driving from Suburbs of Chicago we always bring the portable DVD players with plenty of movies:)

Hey we live in the 'burbs too, Elmhurst here! :) I just talked to my realtor who lived in Windsor Hills for a year (very unusual, no one really LIVEs in these resorts, only about 12 permanent residents that actually live there), and he laughed and said yes, there's a big business opportunity for someone to open up a combo Blockbuster/Starbucks/Internet place right there on 192!! There is a video store all the way down 192 where it meets 27 by the 2nd Publix store, but it's about 10-15 mins down 192.

Would any of you that are renting at windsor palms mind sharing which places you are staying at? We are still trying to decide were to stay for our trip in June!

Thanks!
Amanda

I don't know how to do a link but I can tell you that if you go to VRBO and look at rental #53137 that is the house we are staying at. He is a great owner and has been very responsive to all of our questions since this is our first stay offsite. He gave us a great deal for Spring Break that we couldn't pass up so that is why we are going. You can also type in the search Windsor Palms or Windsor Hills and it will bring them. There also is windsorhillsrent.com and windsor-palms-florida.net to look at both the rentals at both of these places. Like I said before we were a little nervous but with the deal we got and now having all the extra room and flexibility to our vacation I am sure that we will be hooked!! If you have any other questions just ask.

Oh yeah....several DIS memebers also have rentals...one is 5mins2disney but hers was already rented when we started looking:)

We live in Aurora, IL. What are your thoughts on Windsor Palms vs Windsor Hills. I had to search to get reviews on Windsor Palms it seems most people are staying at Windsor Hills recently. I hope we picked the right place. I am sure we will be fine the pictures of the house and resort looks great and we will just be excited to be out of Chicago at the end of March!!

mine is in my signature -- it is a larger home in Windsor Hills, which is quite close to windor Palms. We love the whole area.

Indymom -- we are thinking alike! We usually hit the parks hard, going every day, including Universal, but this year decided only 1 day at MK, 1 at Epcot (or "Eppa-cot" as my DS5 says) and one at Sea World. Hopefully I will stick to this plan!

Mainebound...We are very excited about our more relaxed plan this time. We let each child pick one special day. My almost 5 year old picked Magic Kingdom and my 10.5 year old picked Typhoon Lagoon. Our last couple of trips we have done parks every day and also gone back at night so this we think will be a pleasant change of pace. Also this was another reason we were looking into a pool home so that we wouldn't be "tempted" to buy more tickets and get on those busses:) When in March are you going?? We are going March 24-31st.

Well, I've stayed in Windsor Hills 5x now... I looked at Windsor Palms with a realtor as well, but we obviously didn't buy there! Windsor Palms is a nice resort too though, it's built by the same builder and has many of the same / similar amenities, it's just older and a little bit further away... (like several minutes further, not a huge amount).

I'm talking to a guy who's looking to buy a home down there, looking in both resorts, he's been looking at both, he actually said there were some very nice homes he's seen in Windsor Palms. My experience there was the realtor took us to a condo that had all the furniture covered in clear plastic like your grandma used to do....he was all proud of the place.. "I furnished it myself!!"... we just smiled and nodded, "yes, of course you did!"... LOL.

Our MC manages homes in WHR, WP, and EI, all 3 are nice and close to the parks, in any of these though, there is variation in the furnishings in the homes themselves, in the furniture, decorating, electronics, etc. So, best thing to do / advice, make sure you look at a website with LOTS of current pictures of whichever place you choose. You don't want to show up and be unpleasantly surprised... and I don't just mean people who are advertised on vrbo.com or sites like windsorhillsrent.com.... those are just ad sites...most of the "ad" sites have links to the owners own website...which should have a ton of additional pictures. The ad sites are usually limited to 3-10 photos, and it's hard to judge a place from that few photos. The other good thing about Windsor Hills...it's all brand new...built in 2005...so it's going to be hard to find "bad" places there...some are definitely nicer than others, for sure, but I have yet to see or go into any (and I've been into dozens now) that were "awful" or places I would be upset if I stayed there.

Now, my wife would disagree with me! hehe...she's all about the furniture, decorating, beds, etc, I'm a little less picky, and there are a ton of places with furniture "packages" where she looks at the furniture and says "ugly" but that's just a personal preference / taste issue, it's not like they are dirty, unkempt, breaking down or anything like that...we just prefer to stay in the nicer / higher end places. You will find the same thing in WP or EI too, some homes are higher end than others, some are decorated better (we're big on painted walls for instance, white walls look so plain to us!).. but....would you have a bad time staying in one? No, probably not... Would you have an amazing time staying in one with incredible beds, decorating, TVs, etc? I think so...but that's just me...others are concerned mostly with just the cost and could care less what it looks like... even if this is the case you're going to get a place that is 10x nicer than any hotel room at less cost!

By the way...Southwest has been having DING! fare promotions for $88 round trip, nonstop to Orlando if you don't want to drive! That's an awfully long drive, especially with kids. We figured out it would cost us nearly that much to drive, then we have to get a hotel somewhere around Chattanooga for the night too. I found rental cars on priceline.com for roughly $25/day.

All said and done, it was cheaper to fly than drive.

I wish we could fly but we are going over spring break and haven't been able to find flights. We usually drive so it is not a big deal to us I am just so excited that we get to go:)
