I am considering renting a home in the Windsor Hills community this January. Through this website http://www.windsorhillsrent.com/ I have received prices on several homes that interest me.
Since this site allows you to rent directly from the owner, I am curious as to how to "check out" the owner? It worries me to send such a large amount of money to a stranger. We usually stay at a Disney property so I'm a complete novice when it comes to renting a home.
Any advice is very much appreciated.

Most of the owners on the windsorhillsrent site have a verified sign on their pages. If you know the person's name that owns the home you can also go to Osceola county tax records and do a search to see if they have a tax record. Just remember that it takes a few months for new records to be added online so if their names aren't there it just might be that the property is too new.

Also you can ask on these boards if anyone know the specific property or the owner. :)

I looked that property up on the tax records and it's located on Dinville St. across from the playground. I've probably got it in one of my pictures. We've stayed at WH twice and will be going back in Nov to stay in a 6 bedroom home.:yay:
It's a great resort and I'm sure you'll be happy with your choice. I also noticed that these owners are building a home in the Reunion Resort also.

We are staying there in January. dworlando.com is their website.

It is our first time, so I don't have any reviews, but the lady was very helpful and friendly. I've never rented a condo either, so this is a totally new experience.

There is always an element of trust here - you are trusting the owner to rent you the home as advertised, and they are trusting you to treat their home as your own. It usually works out fine. Windsorhillsrent is a well established site that only lists private homes at Windsor Hills.

Just because an owner does not have a 'verified' sign on their listing does not mean that they are not genuine owners. I am an owner on Windsor Hills and I don't have a verified sign.

However, I invite and welcome all my guests to contact my US management company for verification of my ownership and as others have said, the TRUE way to check if an owner is genuine is to go to County records.

True, but you should get one! You just need to send some proof to the website admin of ownership and she will "verify" you, PM me if you need details!

Thank you for your response!
This is one of the homes we are considering http://www.windsorhillsrent.com/cgi-bin/members.cgi?fnct=details&id=6

It is reasonably priced, I received a lovely e-mail from the owners. They don't have a "verified" sign on their page :confused3
I guess I'm just unsure of what standard procedure is when renting a private home, we've never done this before.

 This may be really stupid, but when I click on the link for the house you were looking at I am getting My name/dates/etc.. on the inquiry form..I thought it might be tied to my email but then logged off and signed in under a different email address. Is my info out there...Karen

Hi Karen -
You need to fillin your information then click on submit. This will send an inquiry email to the owner of the home, and you can expect to receive a response within a day or so typically.

Hope this helps!

Thanks George..
Actually, what I think is happening is for the past week I have been sending inquiries to the Windsor Hills site so when I clicked on the link posted on this thread to view the home, the inquiry form was already prefilled out with my exact dates and my name. At first, I thought that all my info was out there for all to see but it seems when clicking on the windsorhillsrent.com site it must have my email address connected to my inquiry of the past week and automatically prefills in the info.

On a different happier note.....before i read your post..I just sent off my booking forms:woohoo:

You are correct, your info from previous inquiries on the Windsor Hills site is automatically filled in when you view a property.
I just clicked on the link and it showed my info only.
I did wind up choosing the house in the link, I'm sending them a deposit check tomorrow :woohoo:

I'm sure you guys will like WH and dealing with an owner isn't as scary as you think, we've been doing it for more than 10 years. Hope you have a great vacation. :thumbsup2

Thanks Lulugirl for checking that. I figured (after my initial "what the  ") it must be something like that.

Thanks Sympatico! Looking forward to my first trip at Windsor Hills too.

It is just a cookie that saved the info at YOUR computer, so nothing is stores at http://www.windsorhillsrent.com/, dont worry, this is just to make your life easier and dont need to fill the form if you want to write to 50 different owners.
Ana
