Our first choice is already booked up for X-mas so I'm looking around for other alternatives. I read a lot of good things about Windsor Hills. We could get away with a 2 br condo. We have 2 adults and 2 kids. Stayed in a 2 br at Cypress Pointe our last trip. But...the townhouses with splash pools sure sound nice. The question is would it be a waste of the extra money in December? Also, are there more desirable townhome locations within WH's? The quieter the location the better for me. Thanks for any info.

I don't think it would be a waste of money to get the splash pool heated. It's only about 3 steps from your patio doors. Even if the air is chilly your pool will be nice and warm. We were there in Feb and had a couple of chilly days and nights but the splash pool was nice and warm. It was just great after a tiring day at the parks. We've stayed in a couple of different townhouses at different times of the year and it's pretty quiet. The towhouse on Renshaw had no rear neighbours. It backs on the dry retention field. So any on that street would be quiet. But the townhouse we stayed at on Sir Kaufman was quiet too.

I feel somewhat qualified to comment on this question! /grin

I would definitely recommend getting pool heat in December, it's well worth it to have a nice and warm pool, we recommend it Oct-April to people.

I've stayed in a few different townhomes in WHR and also own / operate a few there, and I think all of the locations of the townhomes are pretty good, and mostly quiet. We rented there 2 years in a row and loved it so much we bought a place there!

There's no busy roads nearby, for one thing, most nights it's a very peaceful, quiet kind of place, the one exception might be if you had some noisy neighbors or something but that's not dependent on the location.

I think it comes down more to amenities / features, things like decorating, electronics, beds, internet, etc, and of course price, all of which vary slightly from home-home.

GREAT place, you will love it! Most people come back and say it was a lot nicer than they ever expected, and have just a wonderful vacation! It's one of the newest, nicest, and closest resorts to WDW at the moment, and has a great reputation and is one of the "hot" resorts to stay in at the moment.

Please let me know if I can answer any other questions or help in any way.

We stayed on Sir Kauffman in an end TH and it was very quiet. We were ther in December & had the splash pool heated - although we did use it we also went to the main pool a few times. The quiet can't be guaranteed! Depends how noisy the neighbours are.

Thanks for the info. I guess the only thing you could do to bank against noisy neighbors is to find an end unit. Then only folks on one side.

We started out looking for a 2BR condo at Windsor Hills - there aren't that many 2BR and the owners charge the same for the most part as they do for a 3BR condo. We ended up booking a 3BR townhouse for the same price I was quoted by another person on a 2BR condo. Leaving in 3 weeks :)

So either way - condo or townhouse - I would expand the search to 3BR.

I might have wrote the question in a confusing way. I wasn't asking if it's a waste of money to get the pool heated, I was trying to ask if even with a heated pool would it be to cool in Dec.to use it? My experience with other heated pools is that the water temp. can vary. For those who have been there in winter w/ a heated splash pool, was it really warm?

Ahh...yes absolutely! I was just there in January in my own splash pool, and we had it a nice toasty 88 degrees!

One thing to be aware or, or consider though....ask if the home has a pool blanket. You need to put these on and use them at night, otherwise all of the heat escapes. You might think "so what I have it heated"...but the way the heaters work is they're a heat exchanger, so they pull heat from the air and put it in the pool water. Well, at night time, or any time it's below 55 continuously, the heat exchangers don't really work, there's not enough heat in the air for them to pull out. The majority of pool heaters in Florida are setup this way, just so you know, it's rare to find a gas / electric "heated" one (all of Windsor Hills is built this way, for instance).

At any rate, using a pool blanket will let that heat that's accumulated all day long be there in the mornings if you swim in the AM, or you'll have a nice toasty pool in the evenings when you get home from the parks! (But not everyone has one just so you know, I would ask).

Hi Chris

As said before we were there in December & were able to use the splash pool & main pool most days - it was just cool for a few days over Xmas. Our TH was an end unit & did have a pool blanket. Hope we are helping you make a decision!
