We thought we'd found the perfect off site condo for our June 25 trip but today when I went online to book it it's unavailable for our dates :sad2:
It was a 3 bedroom at Windor Hills
( www.orlandocondorentalsneardisney.com ) ,which we'd decided we liked better over Windsor Palms because of the better pool/slide area. I did email the owners to see if they knew of a silimarly priced unit (it was $406.61 total for 4 nights) but haven't heard back yet.

Does anyone on here know of a 3 bedroom that would be available for the dates of June 25-29, 2007 for around that price? We'd prefer the hills over the palms just because the kids have fallen in love with the slide. I did see one on www.ownerdirect.com but I did a search on here and it seems that I'll have to give my cc# to an agency before they'll let me contact the owner and they did call me today but the phone number was from Great Brittan?

Try putting an enquiry out on www.windsor-palms-florida.net which is a site of direct by owner properties at Windsor Palms.

Many of the owners are from Great Britain, so don't let that put you off renting a vacation home.

:) I would go directly to the Windsor Hills website. Submit an inquiry there. We have just rented a full week in a 3 bdr townhome with splash pool. Very well equipped and appointed. With pool heat and tax the price was almost too good to believe. We questioned off-site but I feel really good about the money savings and being able to apply all that savings to food at WDW and other activities while in Orlando. Our experience with the WH people has been most positive.:)

I did notice that a majority of the sites that list prices are in US dollars and GBP and I was wondering why. Any idea why there are so many owners from GB?

People from the UK have been used to vacation rentals (or self catering accommodation as it is called over there) for some time. A lot of Brits will rent a vacation home while visiting Florida. The amount of Brits owning vacation homes in Florida has been fueled by a love of Florida, looking for an investment and more recently a good exchange rate of almost 2 dollars to the pound.

I am British, but live in the States and my DH and I have two homes near Disney. We bought them as investments and as a place we can visit with our two little ones DS(6) and DD(2). When we are not using them, we rent them out to cover the costs.

Nowdays I don't like to stay in a hotel because we are used to the extra space that a vacation home gives us. DH & I love being able to relax at night with the kids in bed. With a vacation home w/pool, DH & I can spend time by the pool or in the spa whilst keeping an ear out for the kids with a baby monitor. The savings in terms of not only the cost compared to a hotel room, but also in terms of being able to eat breakfast or dinner 'at home' as well as not having to pay high prices for every little drink or snack you may want.

Big convert to staying at a vacation home here.

BTW - we find that when we are at our vacation home, we very rarely visit the clubhouse or other amenities that our communites offer. Most of what we need or want can be found at the homes. Don't get hung up on resort X or Y because of the facilities if you are staying in a home with a pool and other amenities.

Work out what you want in your vacation home and look for that first. Don't always go on price - sometimes paying that little bit extra for something can help make your stay a memorable one. Check out photos, virtual tours, floorplans, maps to make sure you know what you are getting. Take a look at what is shown in photos and what is not easily seen (cropped photos of the pool etc often signal a home behind the pool)

Sometimes we see homes advertised that say 10 minutes to Disney and wonder what mode of transport they are using to travel that far in that time. The homes on the west side of 192 are all pretty much the same travelling times to the parks (Windsor Palms, Windsor Hills, Emerald Island, Arcadia Estates, Rolling Hills, Indian Creek, Formosa Gardens etc)

Good luck with whatever home you choose, you should have a great time.
