Win POWERBALL.... quit your job?

If you won, how long would you continue to work for your current employer?

  • I would play it by ear.

  • Are you kidding? They would never hear from me again!

  • Just long enough to "rub it in".

  • I'd probably keep working for a long time.

  • Other

I voted other, since I'm still job hunting I don't have a job to quit.

It would also depend a lot on how large the winnings were. I would probably keep working if it were around $2-3 million, and just invest and save for retirement. Or invest in a franchise business and work at that. $10 million or so, I'd be done.

In any event, I would make sure my DW didn't see any lag in insurance coverage between her work and whatever we could get set up, and then she'd be gone.

As soon as I had the check in my hands.

Well it would be DH, but yes he he would quit in a second. Heck, I am begging him to look now. This merger is making him and ME crazy.

I voted other because I would probably still work part time for the same business. Being PT I could pick and choose when I wanted to work; how many days, how many hours a day and what department I wanted to be in. I don't think I could just stop working totally. BUT we don't have Powerball, so it is all a moot point anyhow.

Unless it was like August or something, I'd finish out the school year so the kiddos wouldn't be stuck with a sub for the rest of the year. Then, I'd buy them all tickets to Disney World for a big class trip!! :wizard:

At my job, I only have to work a minimum of 10 hours a week(from home at that) and I enjoy it, so I might take a leave of absence and then come back and work minimum. I would probably get a live in maid or at least go to a weekly maid so I could spend all of my spare time with my kids:)

Well, the proper thing to do would be to give notice, but ya know what? To heck with them! I'd probably use up some of my vacation time for a few days and then I'd just call and say SEE YA!

Since I only do part time before/after school daycare I would continue for the rest of this school year (hey, I like the girl and she's been coming over for years), but I would not take on anyone new and I would stop after this year (I'll probably stop, anyway). My income is purely spending $ and I think the powerball would give me plenty of that!

I figure it would take a couple of weeks to sit down with accountants and lawyers etc before we could actually go public and claim the money. I would certainly take a couple of sick days during that time and then once we were ready to pick up the check, I would give my notice at work. There is no way with that kind of money that I would ever work again. I would volunteer a few days a week somewhere, but actually work, no way. :rotfl2:

I'm a teacher so I'd feel bad if I just quit, so I would at least finish the school year. Probably wouldn't sign a contract for next year though!

I'm a SAHM so I can't quit my job. But I'm sure that DH would give his company at least two weeks notice. Also, I would hire someone to come in and clean at least once per week and DH would have to help out more around the house, so that would take some of my workload off my shoulders. :goodvibes

I work in the office of my church and I love it so I wouldn't quit that job. I also am the caregiver for my 2 nephews and I would continue taking care of them from time to time because I would share my winnings with my brother and sil so they wouldn't need me. I would definitely quit my other job at a church operated MDO program, might be doing that anyway!

DH would quit his job in a heartbeat!

But I won't get too excited about winning 'cause we don't play.

I'd have a cleaner EVERY DAY.

I think I would have to give two weeks notice then it would give me the opportunity to give my coworkers a little something to make life comfortable for them. Of course they would quit with no notice!

Yes, I would give them something. They have helped me out without hesitation over the years, financially even when my DD had her Appendix out. Helped us go to WDW with some extra cash and helped pay some bills! They are the best!

I'd come in & treat everyone in my dept. to a great dinner (they are all great to work with, and I'd like to do something special for them), and then I'd quit.

Would keep working just long enough for them to find and transition all the support to someone else. Then I would be off to a world Disney tour, all 9 parks! :)

It would really leave my organization in a rough spot if I left quickly. I'd probably stay about a month (coming in around 10, not 9!) to get things organized.
