Hi guys!
I rented points for this Sun throu Sat at BCV. I am terrified that I spent all this money (mostly for SAB) and will be stuck inside most of the time, what can I do?
Is there anyway to cancel rented points? and not lose all my money?

If DVC allows members to cancel reservations without penalty, you would have to work with the DVC member who rented you the points to see if they would be willing to help you out by calling member services to make the arrangements.

What cancellation policy did you agree to in your contract with the member?

What makes you think you will be "stuck inside most of the time" - even if Wilma goes thru WDW?

While DVC has usually been generous with hurricane related issues, the events usually only last a few hours (I was at WDW for 2 hurricanes in 2004). As for the specifics of your rental, your contract with the member should have covered those contingencies prior to agreement. In the event that the hurricane actually closes the airport or limits activity at WDW (parks being closed) during your stay, WDW will probably provide some concession and you'd be able to reschedule thru the member.

I'd just go and enjoy the experience, in the 3 hurricanes I've experienced while at WDW (Flloyd, Charlie, Jeanne), Disney has always treated it's guests in a first class way.

You need to watch the NOAA hurricane advisories and path projections. Right now all of the models have the storm well south of Orlando. Local weather forecasts are calling for rain but no severe weather for the next ten days. It can change but for now there is no reason to cancel.

It's going to hit farther south than Orlando. Most of the week, other than maybe Sunday & part of Monday, looks to be nice.

We leave Saturday and I am not cancelling anything.

Hi Erika,

First of all...DVC does not allow cancellations a day or two out with no penalties. There are severe penalties/restrictions on the use of the points, and IF your DVC owner could cancel, they would be very limited in rescheduling your vacation. This kind of situation is what trip insurance is for, but it is too late to get trip insurance.

Most importantly -- according to the National Hurricane Center, Wilma is looking like mostly an overnight Sunday event for Florida. Don't be misled by the fact that the current projected path is south of Disney -- the Sunday weather will be CRUMMY. However, Monday will be better, and from Tuesday forward, the hurricane will have zero effect.

Keep in mind that this is a hurricane, and all of the projections will change a dozen times before you leave home.

I'd go ahead with your plans, keeping track of the NHC website (www.nhc.noaa.gov ) and also with your airline. Your biggest concern will probably be whether your flight gets in or not...and from what I see so far, I'd bet it will.

Just wanted to add that, if you MUST cancel, you need to do it Friday. DVC Member Services is closed on the weekend, and the person you rented from probably will NOT be able to cancel after 5 PM Eastern on Friday.

Unless you don't want to risk it, being down there while a hurricane is CLOSE by is not always a bad thing! We were there while Ophelia was spinning just off the coast straight east of Orlando and all of the weather reports were leading everyone back home to believe we were getting soaked, but just the opposite was true and we only got about 20 minutes of rain over 4 days in the parks. Guess what, you could go anywhere and ride anything without hesitation. I have told everyone that it was like having the park in your own back yard and you could visit anything you wanted. The day we visited the MK, we rode Space Mt. about 3 or 4 times no hesitation and after we decided to call it quits, we stood outside of the entrance to that ride and I could honestly only count about 20 people as far as I could see in any direction. It was awesome. When we visited Epcot we walked right up and got character photos of MICKEY (first time in 4 trips) with only 2 kids in line before us, and Goofy was standing around almost bored with and occasional photo opportunity walking up to him. Snow White was standing there with no one to talk with except another cast member and you could only see a familly or two in either direction. The worst side of a hurricane is the right side and they are calling for it to go across the bottom of Florida, which means you will be on the good side. Unless you just are not a gambler, I would go for it, and it may just turn out to be the trip of a lifetime. Just carry ponchos in case you get a little rain and keep on getting up. This also lowers crowds. Just a thought. I would go in your place if I could so don't count it out.

After member services closes, you can call the front desk of the resort to cancel. Officially, you can't cancel on the day of your arrival, so it would have to be before midnight Saturday.

I saw on another post that DVC is allowing cancellations Oct 19 to 23 without penalty.

I'm in Orlando now. Of course, the weather/hurricane forecast changes every few hours, but on this evenings weather forecast, Wilma was expected to cross southern Florida Monday afternoon. The Orlando forecast was scattered showers Sat and Sun, rainy Monday, and then nice weather starting Tuesday.

I wouldn't worry about Wilma. She is forecast to be picked up by the Jet Stream and zipped across Florida and up the coast. Operative word being zipped.

We just cancelled our BWV reservation for Sunday night due to Wilma. We called directly to the Boardwalk, and they were able to put our points into holding. This storm seems to be changing by the minute. It is good of the resorts to allow cancellations at such a late date because of the storm.
