We are driving down to Myrtle beach for a week and looking to stop in Williamsburg Virginia on the way home for 3 days. We did the same trip last year but the hotel I booked looked good online but it was a DUMP...room wasn't even clean and bed wasn't made for 2 days! I do NOT want to make the same mistake again.
Does anyone have a hotel recommendation for a hotel that they stayed in in Williamsburg. We have a car so walking distance to colonial williamsburg isn't really important. I am not looking to spend 200 a night ...but I don't want the 40.00 a night dump either. Some where around 100-139 a night is where I would like to stay....

I'd check on tripadvisor. I was actually looking there yest for hotels also. There was alot to choose from so I'm actually curious to know what other people think too. We are thinking of stopping there this summer.

We went there a couple of years ago and stayed at the Williamsburg Hospitality House. It is in walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg. I liked the hotel. It was very clean. They had a nice breakfast buffet there (not free). Also, plenty of cafes and diners just outside the hotel. I would stay there again if we were in that area.

Most of the Williamsburg hotels we have looked into are on the older side, and not too great.

We have stayed at Powhatten resort the past few times. Not fancy by any means, but it is clean and spacious. When you go to the website it describes the timeshare crap, but when you book thru expedia or travelocity the rate is without the timeshare presentation, and no one has ever bothered us to do it.

I agree to look at tripadvisor. Great info.

There is also a great wolf lodge in WIlliamsburg. We have stayed there once also. Pricey but very nice.

First place I looked was trip advisor but there are so many contradicting opinions on there! One person says great clean hotel, another says dump with roaches..then the next person says nice rooms, next person says dirty with mold and bedbugs! And it just goes on and on that way!

I tend to believe the negative reviews when I see them go back and forth like that. I wonder if the hotel doesn't have its employees post the good ones!

There is a fairly new Hampton Inn on the east end Williamsburg that I stayed at a few months ago. It was nice and clean. I'm almost 100% sure it was this one (sorry, there are several Hampton Inns in W'burg!)

There is a newer Holiday Inn across the street from this Hampton Inn, and I've stayed in that one, too. Also very nice. I think I also saw a Homewood Suites in the same area, and those are usually good. There was another hotel right next to the Hampton Inn that looked OK, too. It might have been a Comfort Inn.

We've stayed at the Williamsburg Woodlands a couple of times. It isn't a luxury resort but it is clean and it's part of the Colonial Willamsburg hotel group.

I have stayed at the Hampton Inn that was referenced in a previous post and it was quite nice! (I also stayed at the older Hampton Inn last month for a night and while it wasn't as new and plush as the other one, it had an awesome hot breakfast and the service was incredible!). There is also a brand new Hampton Inn that has just been built, but I am not sure if it is even open yet (have driven by and it looks very nice).

The Great Wolf Lodge is really cool, particularly in the winter when you are limited with outdoor activities. I probably wouldn't spend the money in the summer on it, since you can go to Busch Gardens or Water Country.

Have also stayed a long weekend at Powhatan Plantation and was not impressed by the unit we had (old and not very clean).

Anyone stay at Governor's INN? I just care about clean because it is one night. It was only 59.00 andit is one of the Williamsburg properites but the price is what threw me. It is really inexpensive and that made me leary because if you have ever gone to Williamsburg they charge big time for everthing(the Disney of Historical Parks).

We stayed at the Kingsmill Resort and it was really nice. They had a shuttle to both Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. We drove to Williamsburg - about 10 minutes away.

I think we stayed at a Crowne Plaza, I will double check with DH - we got it on priceline pretty cheap - the reviews I read were not that great -

I was so worried about the hotel, but it was very nice & clean we had no problems at all.

We didn't stay there but we saw it. The reviews are not terrible. Basically, great staff, great pool, walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg but uncomfortable beds and hotel shows its age. The hotel showing its age is what I thought as we drove past. I was kind of surprised because it looked a bit run down and not like a CW property.
One time we stayed at the Williamsburg Hospitality House. It's about $100/ night but it was a fine hotel. The beds were comfortable and the staff was very nice. It's walking distance to CW.

We are staying at the Best Western Historic Area in June. The reviews on Trip Adviser were mixed, but people mostly complained about the pool and the FREE breakfast. (:confused3) It's free, people! What do you want for free?

I got a rate of $40 per night, so I'm not expecting the Ritz. As long as the room is clean, I'm happy.

We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn last year. It was very clean and nice. I am EXTREMLY picky about where we stay. I am notorious for getting to the room, turning everyone back around and going someplace else. I just remember being satisfied with my choice. I cannot remember the rate but I think it was between $120-$160. We also had breakfast vouchers but the breakfast wasn't free like Hampton Inn offers. We had to have the vouchers and I cannot remember how we got them. Maybe paid a higher rate "bed and breakfast" type deal? It was good though. If I were ever to go back, this is definately where I would stay.

We stayed at hampton inn at capitol landing rd last year and again this year this month.

If anyone is interested in drum and fife the army's old guard drum and fife will be at williamsburg this month 14/15.

Thanks for that bit of info, DH will really love that...

I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn last year and was impressed. Clean, well-appointed rooms at a great value.

The Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn on Bypass Rd. are only about 2 years old. Nice places, don't know the prices are. Hospitality House is nice, cafes in town are great around the area. Hilton, Holiday Inn Express and I think its a Quality Inn Suites on Richmond Rd. are also new. Stay away from Airport Inn and Motel 6 on Richmond Rd. If you want info on any others, I'll fill you in. Let me know.
