Williamsburg, VA

I have for years been a seasons pass holder for Busch Gardens. No more. Here is why. Like another person said they have a great kiddie park and huge roller coasters. VERY little in between. The roller coasters have really long waits and if you want a fast pass type thing you have to pay in addition to the entrance feee. After spending over 1,000 year for my family to have passes I balked at that.

I am also a season pass holder at Colonial Williamsburg. I LOVE the place. You don't even need admission to enjoy the streets and the characters it's the perfect spot for a picnic and there is a cheese shop in Merchant Square that adjoins the property. They sell delicious cheese plates and sandwiches. Warning if you have kids under 12 that are not really into history. It's going to be a snooze fest for them. It's a living breathing history lesson and I see so many kids looking like they want to be anywhere else.

Have a great time!

We just went to Williamsburg over this year's 4th of July week and we only planning on spending a day or so at Colonial Williamsburg, but our boys (9 and 13) were so into it, especially interacting with all the tradespeople and asking a ton of questions, that we spent 2 solid days there. 4th of July itself was really cool (albeit very crowded), including watching a reenactment of the reading of the Declaration of Independence on the courthouse steps. :thumbsup2

We would have liked to have made it to Jamestown or other historical sites, but never made it. We skipped Busch Gardens, but only because we have Cedar Fair Platinum passes, so we went to King's Dominion in Richmond instead for a day (our passes get us in for free). :) We also spent a couple days on our way home at a relative's house who had a lake house in a remote part of Virginia.

Our hotel was right across the street from Food for Thought, but we never ended up there for some reason. I heard from a lot of people that it was really good, though. We ate at the Williamsburg Lodge on 4th of July - they had a Seafood Feast (buffet) that was really good.

Just went there during the second week of August. BG was good but don't expect Disney because it isn't and I don't think it tries to be. I agree with the statement that there is little to do in between kiddie rides and roller coasters but there was still enough to occupy a couple of days.

If you have not picked a hotel yet, look into the Days Inn on Bypass rd. I can't say enough about the building and the people, just like Disney the hotel was spotless and the people went out of their way to help.
