I see a lot of people ask about trips to Williamsburg, and I always try to give insight since I am a resident. I also write for a site devoted exclusively to travel destinations in the south.

I'm trying to increase my facebook fan base, so I thought maybe some of you wouldn't mind becoming a fan since I've always tried to share what I know. I'd appreciate it! If this is not allowed, I apologize.

So funny! Dh wanted to go to Williamsburg and the family won the vote. We are going to Disney!
Williamsburg is a great vacation, we are just mouse addicts!

We are mouse addicts, too! My husband is an Army officer, and when we were discussing bases we might end up at, my daughter told she wanted to move to GA to be closer to Mickey!

I just sent the outlaws there for their Christmas present. They are heading your way tomorrow. Should be nice weather.

We are thinking about going to Williamsburg in Aug! We are looking or hotel info!:rotfl:

Any of the Colonial Williamsburg hotels are nice because they are right in the middle of things, but you can probably get a better deal somewhere along Richmond Road.

For a resort-type stay, Kingsmill or Great Wolf Lodge are awesome!

Is it worth it to stay at the Colonial Williamsburg hotels to get the discounted ticket?

If you're going in August, check out this site: http://www.odms-club.com/convention/

A $68 rate for the Holiday Inn near the colonial area in August sounds like an awesome deal to me. Beyond that, I'd recommend the Hospitality House for a hotel.

Soonerfan: Any more news on Sal's by Victor reopening? We'll be there in August (although we're staying timeshare). I went to W&M and am interested to see how things have changed.

I am a Sooner fan that is traveling to Williamsburg with Disney. Your page fits me perfectly. :thumbsup2

Thank you for posting this thread. We have been talking about going for about a year now.

Thank you!:goodvibes

Our neighbors just headed to Sal's tonight! So they are back in business. My husband is graduating from W&M's law school in 2 weeks. We love it here, and I will be sad to leave!

Awesome news!

I'd have your DH say Hi to Professor Grover for me, but I'd have to reveal my secret identity.... LOL!

Any opinion on the best "off property" ;) hotel option.

We are looking to go in September with our brood and since we are Florida babies, was preferring a hotel with an indoor pool close to the historical area.

Any particular preference? Most of the choices averaged about $100 for a 4 night stay--and I had about 10 options.

(Great Wolf Lodge is out as it is booked, but since we were planning on doing the homeschool days at Williamsburg at that time, my goal was that swimming would just be a backup activity--so no biggy. Plus, boy is that place pricey!)

We're thinking of going to Williamsburg in June. Curious as to where is a good place to stay for condo accomadations. I've done some research and have looked at few places on line but its so hard to pick.

We are a family of 5. Love to swim so pool(s) are a necessity. We want to go to Busch Gardens, perhaps Water Country and definitely the historical sites. So I guess a central location is good.

Thanks for any help.

We stayed at Williamsburg Plantation and it was very nice. We are also a family of 5 (one in a crib) and we had plenty of space. We were staying on transferred timeshare points, so I don't know if they do straight rentals.

Thank you for the info. It looks like they do. I'll add it to the list of possibilities. We have a chance to rent timeshare points so we go that route as well.

We'll see. The onsite hotels seem to a good location.

Yes, the CW hotels have the best locations, but since you will need a car anyway and it's not like Disney, it's not bad to stay a few miles out.

I recommend making time to see the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News. Very nice. And the Mariners' Museum is very well done, if that interests you.

I was just looking into taking a trip to Williamsburg a few days ago. I saw that you can stay right in some of the colonial homes. My dad would LOVE that! Do you have any info on them? My parents took me as a kid and I was thinking of planning a surprise trip for them to go with us so they can see the grandkids there. The houses looked amazing to stay in.

If budget is an issue, we stayed near the airport in Newport News for about 1/2 what the williamsburg hotels wanted. We went a few weeks ago for Christmastown and it was FANTASTIC!!! It was about 20 minutes to Williamsburg but the mall had lots of dinning options near the hotel.

We are looking for a place for a family of 5 with swimming options. Any suggestions?
