Anyone been to the Governor's Inn in Williamsburg VA? We are thinking of stopping there again on the way to WDW this summer. I went to trip advisor and they had mostly good reviews. I am not looking for fancy just clean as we will only be there two nights.

We were there 3 days 5 years ago and for the most part we liked it. They have a limited continental breakfast, which worked for us. The pool was perfect and had unlimited towels poolside. They also have a shuttle van to williamsburg which we used a few times...a little cramped but the drivers were outstanding! I wouldn't plan to walk, it's a loooong 3 blocks to the marketplace, which is still a block or two from Duke of Gloucester street. I did it by myself one time (We forgot something and didn't want to lose our parking place, it took me 20-25 minutes briskly walking roundtrip), although depending on the ages of your kids, you might enjoy the walk. If you park at the visitors center, it is also a long walk to Colonial Williamsburg, most people shuttle from there, too.
When we went we were able to get a hotel/ticket package (Since it is an official CW hotel). I would definitely stay there again.
The only negative was that they are closed in the winter, so there was a vague musty odor when we got to our room. It seemed to clear out pretty quickly, and the room was visibly clean, and housekeeping staff came daily, but I thought you might want to know.

I live in Williamsburg and can give some advice on places to stay.

If you want to explore Colonial Williamsburg, I suggest the Staying either in CW or off the Bypass Rd. there are several fairly new hotels there that are clean and near restaurants and not too far from the interstate. Williamsburg can be confusing but just follow signs carefully when coming into the Colonial area.

If you want new and clean and fairly inexpensive, I suggest the Hampton Inn on Capital Landing Rd. It's reasonably priced, near the attractions and has breakfast. It's clean and near restaurants.

Another good one would be The Country Inn and Suites on the Bypass Rd. Clean, well run and excellent Breakfast.

The Governor's Inn is fine. It is older and does seem to be showing it's age. the property seems well kept (I haven't been inside in about 3 years) It's location is what makes it worth going to.

I can suggest good restaurants too. As a local, I've eaten at them all! In High Summer months the Chain Restaurants are packed, so I eat at local places during Tourist Season.

We stayed there this past April when we went down for Spring Break.

It was fine for what we needed - inexpensive, clean, with a continental breakfast. It is older and the walls are pretty thin but since the price of the room included tickets to Williamsburg as well as discount on the night events we put up with a very loud family that was staying beside us :) Location is great - we actually walked into town a couple of the days and for dinner.

You LIVE in Williamsburg....oh what I would give to live there. I would love to know some good restaurants. I stayed at the Quality Inn Historic last year because we did a timeshare tour and it was 29 per night. It was a typical Quality Inn. We were going for the Govenor's Inn because the passes for CW were included in the price and as I said it is only two night stay on the way to WDW. I know it is not fantastic but the price is right and as I said it is really just a stop over on our trip to WDW.

As far as restaurants were concerned we went to the Red White and Blue( I know that is not the correct name but I cannot remember exactly) BBQ it was okay and we went to the restaurant related to Ben Franklin right near it is it Poor Richard's I think but could be wrong. Both of which were eh! WE also went to an Italian restaurant near the outlets and for the life of me I cannot remember the name of that one ALSO(they say the nouns go first LOL). We also ate at the Cheese Shop and that too was just okay. I would love some good places to eat.

Also, I would love to eat at one of the restaurants in CW I know that they are not great but I want atmosphere. Of the ones located in CW which one would you say is the best? Thanks in advance.

Hi! We also plan to visit Williamsburg this summer, and I would love to hear of some good places to eat.

We're booked at the Springhill Suites on Richmond Road, because a relative is letting us use Marriott points. Do you know how this hotel is for location/cleanliness?

Thanks!

We've stayed at Spring Hill and Residence Inn and both were very nice. The last time we were there, a new hotel was being built on Bypass. Hopefully, someone will know the name.

We visit frequently and enjoy going to the Trellis and Seasons in CW. There is a great bar-b-que place near the Great Wolf Lodge called Pierce's. There is also New Town which has quite a few restaurants (Panera, Cheeburger, Cheeburger, Bonefish Grill.

I too live in Williamsburg, it is a great place to live:goodvibes. Since I live here I don't really frequent the hotels but I can tell you what I've heard. Most people like the Bypass Road area as these hotels are newer and cleaner. I know nothing about the Governor's Inn so I can't help there.

Restaurants: There are a lot of chains and they're usually busy. A few more local places we like are Sal's (Italian and yummy, near Books-A-Million), Peking (GREAT asian buffet), Jimmy's (a little far but really good food!), Shackleford's (great food near Target) to name a few. Of course, no trip to Williamsburg is complete without going to Pierce's.

Seeing CW is worthwhile but I would also recommend going to Jamestown Settlement. It's a very educational and fun place.

I'd be glad to answer any more questions, just PM me!
