Any info on Wlliamsburg is appreciated. We have the opportunity to spend the week of 4th of July there at the Marriott Ford Manor, but and this is a big but, we love the 4th here at home. Our beach club has a great big party, ending with fireworks on the beach. We also get a double shot beacuse our house sits on a lake where they do fireworks on the 5th. Nothing like sitting on your own porch watching fireworks.

But onto my question (s) I have never been, history is boring to me, and I will most likely be there alone with my kids. So we will probably spend most of the time at the resort. I know Marriott vacation clubs have great amenities so I am not concerned.

So what do you think.

Yay or nay. My thinking is that Williamsburg probably does some cool 4th festivities.

It's great for people whom are interested in history and some of the restaurants play into the history by asking you if you have seen George __________ and tell him that he owes me....

They had some nightime programs that seemed fun. We were interested in a ghost stories program, but it was already booked. I have heard that the 4th of July is big in Williamsburg.

Truthfully, my kids (age 2 and 5) got more fun out of Busch Gardens and Water Country. They are located in Williamsburg and are easy to get to. Water Country was the most fun and it was ranked #4 in best water park (2003) on the Travel Channel. Gotta love Hubba Hubba Highway (kind of a fast lazy river).

I liked the Williamsburg Busch Gardens better than the Tampa one by the way.

Williamsburg is pretty cool. Even if you don't like history, there are many interactive things to make it fun. Other than that, there is Busch Gardens and Water Country. We have seasons passes to both and love it.

If you like to shop, there are a ton of outlets and the Pottery. Also, Virginia Beach is less than an hour away.

I'm not sure what's planned for the 4th yet. They should be listing that stuff in the paper shortly. http://www.williamsburg.net/events.html

Thanks for the replies. Now is anyone familiar with the Marriott?
Is it in a good location?

Marriott's Ford Colony is a beautiful resort..it is located off of the beaten path and is actually situated among some beautiful homes..we truly enjoyed it here...the furniture is all cherry and very colonial. There is an indoor and outdoor pool. 4th of July is awesome in Williamsburg...they have tons of fireworks and they have a big picnic at the Governor's Palace. We love Williamsburg..true it is history but it is more of an interpretive type...you'll see Thomas Jefferson and George Washington strolling the streets in costumes...actually get the feel of how people lived and coped back then. If you either pm or email me, I would be happy to send more information to you. We own a timeshare in Williamsburg at Greensprings Plantation...we find it a relaxing vacation. Mary Jo

I LOVE Williamsburg but if history's not your bag it might not hold the same thrill for you. The ghost tour is fun, Rosy Rumps dinner theater is great but you have to book early. Check it out and don't miss Busch Gardens. It's my second favorite theme park. If all else fails you can come visit me! I'm only 20 minutes away.

The bookstore is air conditioned and has a Starbucks
on the second floor with great bathrooms and a good
kid's section.

Sounds great!

We are having a non Disney US holiday later this month, going home to the BWV later for New Years Eve as well.

We five (self, DW, DDs 20, 19 & 16) are sightseeing in Washington DC for six days, flying down to New Orleans for four days for more sights then back up to DC where we pick up a hire car and drive down to the Greensprings Plantation near Williamsburg for the week surrounding 4 July. Apart from just hanging around the resort, we plan on shopping and Busch Gardens and experiencing a 4th of July first hand.

We tried to book the Marriot at Ford Colony (for obvious reasons!) but their internet booking system was very unreliable and unhelpful so we went for the Greensprings one which was straightforward.

hello,
i am planning on going to busch gardens, va in aug. does anyone know of a nice hotel that is close and maybe have a shuttle bus.

thanks for the information

There are several hotels that are close to BG but I believe right on property (but like across the street) is a Days Inn that is suppose to be pretty nice. But just down from there there isn't a whole lot until you hit the Four Points Sheraton (we stayed there last summer for a night in the regular rooms and this past Christmas in the 2 bdr suite) and that was nice. Then you are pretty close to Colonial Williamsburg and a couple other hotels.

I would check into busch gardens website, because they have packages that include accomodations.

Last year we stayed at a Quality Inn that was ok, but it had a nice continental brekfast. They offered no shuttles to Busch Gardens. The rate was < $50 a night, which was the main reason why I went there. I do remember a Travelodge that was already booked when we went last June. Good Luck.
