Will you still drive to FL to Disney if gas reaches..

Yes, but I take public transport to work. So the drive to the station is 3 miles. The drive to the Grocery is less then that and the drive to Randy's is 3 miles.... So a tank of gas lasts me a REALLY long time. (My car gets in the high 20's if traffic is moving which is not always true in Atlanta!)

I have rented cars and driven in Europe where gas has been in this range for years. They drive much more fuel efficient cars then the average American and somehow they all survive without a SUV, van or luxury car!

Oops! I need to edit that - I meant will you still drive to Florida to Disney.. LOL

Well in that case.. I won't, but I have never driven to FL so I can't blame the gas prices.

When the price of fuel goes up, everything goes up. Whatever you make, grow and transport takes energy. And getting it home takes energy. Operating hotels and theme parks takes.....energy. Everything takes energy.

One of the ways to minimize our cost is to get rid of the gas guzzlers. I drive a town car. When it got rear ended, I rented a Toyota Camry. What an unexpected joy. It rode good and was light on gas. It met all my needs. I was forced into downsizing and found out I didn't need that big car. I am now looking at the Ford Five hundred. Big feel, lots of room, and 29 MPG highway in fwd configuration. Because the way I drive I got 2-3 more MPG more than estimates on all my cars. Maybe even a Camry.

Fasten your seat belt and get ready for a ride.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

IMHO

When gas gets more expensive, jet fuel will probably get more expensive as well. Which means airline tickets will go up, and the difference in cost between flying and driving won't necessarily get any smaller. :guilty:

It is borderline anyway which is cheaper for us to drive or to fly with it just being the two of us. We were set to drive this trip, but when gas hit $2.65 here we found an internet dial on flying as it was so close in price to driving and that includes a rental car.

So we bailed out this trip due to gas prices and if we could keep finding good internet air deals we will keep flying. However, being a realist those lower airfare deals will not last as jet fuel is very expensive and will be going up along with gas.

Yes we will drive down, reservations for Fort Wilderness in October. :sunny:
The gas sucking Hemi will get us there and back. This is our major vacation for the Year so I have plenty of $ saved even for gasoline

I have always heard that gas prices never went up with the economy like everything else has.

If it had it would be up around 3 to 4 dollors, anyway thats what i have heard.

I will drive when I need to and fly when I can. Airfare will follow gas prices therefore the prices will be relative.

What it will mean is either less frequent trips or I'll make my permanent move to FL then.

With gas prices rising I was surprised when Southwest came out with really good air fares to Florida for the next several weeks. We could not drive for less than the price of two roundtrip tickets. I'm even considering Magical Express & no rental car.

We are going to be driving in Dec. We don't have a choice. Though we may change which vehicle we take. Our truck would be much more comfy, but only gets a max of 20 miles to the gallon on the hwy, where our car can get almost 40 if the conditions are right. In the care we will be more cramped and I would have to down size the amount of stuff I would like to take. The car also doesn't have cruise so that would make a long 18hr drive that much longer. Decisions, Decisions.

Yes. But I'm not going to be liking it much---.

Exactly.

We've had the money set aside for this trip for months now, but as gas prices have been rising I've been setting aside more to cover it, but hoping it might drop back down after Labor Day. Guess I need to be increasing it by quite a bit now.

Unfortunately, yes, we will still be driving to FL in November. The airfare price would have to be around $100 per person round trip in order for the cost to break even. Don't think that will happen over Thanksgiving week! So it is driving for us.... :( :( :(

We were going to drive in October (we usually do), but SWA came out with $49 fares. At that price, (reduced further with our Capital One Miles), it was cheaper to fly. That made my wife very happy. 3 hours instead of 20.

With our family of five, it is usually cheaper to drive. Without using our miles, the breakeven for us would be between $4.50 and $5.00 per gallon (although it would probably be lower, cause I don't mind paying a $100 or $150 premium to spare the long car ride).

In the end it will still cost us more to fly, as we added on 3 days to our trip, so our accomodations and food costs will go up. Totally worth it to me.

Well-it's already happened here! our gas is $1.20/litre x 3.78 litres is one gallon so we've just started paying $4.536 per gallon.

Someone correct my math if I'm wrong-these prices are making me ill.

Prices for gas just sailed over $4 a gallon today. Went from $2.50 last night to $3.50 this morning to $4 at lunch time. I am traveling in 2 days to WDW. Will hurt - but will not let it hamper our trip.
