Hi,
With all the discussion about the new booking policy....I'm wondering how many people will change the way they travel/book their vacation.

Some are really worried about the Sun-Fri stays.....I for one travel on these days....and I'm thinking optimistically that people will travel the same as before....so I will get my room that I have gotten in the past....and the new booking won't be a hardship for me.

So will you change the way you travel....I'll try to put a poll...never did one.
Kerri

edit...I can't figure out how to poll:(.....
edit....again....I did it:)

No change for me. I've never felt the need to book a day at a time before. We'll continue to book our vacations as we've done in the past.

For our longer October vacation, we usually fly in on Friday night or Saturday morning so nothing will change for us.

I won't change my booking patterns as a result of the "enhanced" reservation policy. We typically arrive on Saturday and stay for 8 nights.

I wont change when I go. The only thing that might change is how I book, but even that wont change for 90% of my ressies. The only time I've ever felt the need to book DBD was for a GV and for holiday time. That wont change, just WHICH day I call DBD will.

I won't change the way I travel but I will change the way I book it. I will walk my ressies. I typically arrive on a Tues or Wed. Now I will book starting Fri night and walk it from there.

Please pardon my lack of knowledge. Would someone be so kind as to do a quick tutorial on what it means to "walk" a reservation?

Thanks. Hope I'm not the only person who doesn't know what this means.

Some are nervous that if they arrive on a Sun.....that all the rooms will be gone by people who have arrived on Fri or Sat.

So some will "walk" a ressie. They will call on the Fri to make a ressie for say a week. On Sat they will call cancel Fri and make the following Sat.
Next day Cancel Sat...add Sun....and so on.

This is a way to "work" the system....so one could be "guaranteed" a stay when they want.
The main concern I believe is for poplular times...ie..xmas, newyears, thanksgiving, etc.

Thank you Kerri. I was under the impression that we could not just subtract one day from a reservation. I thought that you had to cancel the entire "old" one and then, based on availability, book the "new" one. I have never had to do this before so I'm not really sure where I got this idea from. I am however, one of those Thanksgiving Sun-Thur. reservation people and fear that I have spent my last Thanksgiving in a GV. Will definitely continue to read these threads though.

It could change our vacations, since we typically have spent weekends in lower point costs villas, for instance a standard view BWV or value AKV and then move to the larger accomodations on Sunday when the family comes. Since for the family I want larger accomodations like a 2 bedroom, I have to decide what to do.

Also, I didn't realize that I can walk the reservation by simply calling the next day and cancelling the first day. That really seems too easy, and if MS allows that, they are fooling themselves regarding the number of phone calls they will be getting. My family told me that I would be able to manage as I always have, getting the accomodations that we all want, and I've done that day by day. I will do what I have to, as I'm sure all of you here will be doing as well, to get the family vacations we want.

I would be OK if MS doesn't allow that sort of walking, but if that's what it takes, I'll be giving it a try for BC's, GV's and the dedicated 2 bedrooms with 2 Q's at BCV for any time.

It all seems to depend if the villas I wanted were available 1 week from my vacattion dates. I know that the NYE reservation that I did secure for this year was definitely not. The BC may have been because I called to get a members price to add an extra day about a month after I made the reservation, and I was given a price. I am assuming that in that case, it was also available for points, but maybe I do not understand the inventory enough.

I think DVC will be watching very carefully and if it is done frequently....I'm sure we will see some tweaking.

Glad you got NYE....did you book this day by day before the change?
I don't know how they work cash rooms. I have a ressie at BWV from Thurs-Sun before my WLV stay. Thurs night was NOT available for points....but I did book it for the DVC discount.

I suspect if "walking" becomes a widespread problem, DVC will respond with a policy of any change of dates is a cancellation and rebooking...the whole thing being subject to availability. I'd expect them to take that position especially during the Thanksgiving - New Years frenzy and during F&W at the Epcot resorts.

They might also expand that policy to include any changes in primary guests, especially where the original reservation is in the owner's name and it is subsequently changed to a non-member. To me, the biggest real potential problem with the new system is it actively enables speculative renters tying up availability during peak periods. There are a lot of what-if potential nightmare scenarios, but that's a very realistic possibility, IMHO.

Either of those changes could hurt owners using their accounts in legitimate ways, but if people gaming the system becomes a problem, members will complain and DVC will respond. Just look at the one-transfer rule if you have any doubts.

we won't change anything. We already decided on 2 vacations that will work nicely for us and we'll stick to those unless for some reason they become hard to get times. I'd like to go in Dec again (after this Dec trip) but I'm not willing to stress out over the booking of a vacation.

The mods are limiting all discussion of the policy changes to this thread: New Booking Policy Thread

You may continue the discussion there, if you wish.

Thanks.
