I normally pride myself on not using credit cards for any portion of my vacation expenses. The usual motto is, if I can't save the money for the trip ahead of time, we are not going. Well, this trip to WDW is special because it involves Gabby's family. The gas budget was a huge factor for us.....until Gabby's Mom gave us a gift to help cover the cost of a rental car. We both have trucks, so driving down and back was going to run us about $185. That wasn't the bad part, the bad part is how much of our savings budget is getting smacked everytime we fill up. So, that extra money will help us to rent an enclosed vehicle to transport all the Christmas packages that we were going to have to pay to have shipped down to FL and hopefully, it will get more than 19mpg. If we had not been given this gift, we would have had to have used the gas credit card and shipped the numerous Christmas packages to FL. Thank you Pati!!!! Maggie

We always fly- much faster. I don't understand not going b/c of gas prices- but you'll pay $2 for a pint of milk at Disney??? We all pay out the you know what for everything at Disney, what's another splurge on getting there?

'Cause a budget is a budget. Everyone has their maximum.

Well I contemplated canceling my November trip because things were really uncertain when the hurricane hit. Things have since calmed down and gas prices have gone down too. We hit a high of 3.34 and yesterday they were 2.89.

My friend asked about our Nov vacation and hubby said we were going no matter what. I looked at her and said, "I guess we are going no matter what then".

Gas here in the Charlotte NC area has started to go down in price. The station near our house is $2.95/gal right now- that is just .15/gal more than the day before Katrina hit. So, we will still go no matter what.

We drive small cars (a major advantage of having a 3-person family!) that get good mileage, so we will only be filling the tank around 4 times for the round trip. Even if gas goes up $1.50/gal, we'd still only have to up the budget by $60... we couldn't fly for that amt, and we wouldn't cancel. We'd probably just forgo something, like DH and my "kids free" night out. Cancelling the Kids' Club for DD (approx $50) would just about cover any gas $$ increase.

We will most definately NOT be cancelling our trip because of the gas prices, I have waited forever to stay onsite and I am going one way or another. We have approx. a 1293 mile drive so it will be some extra as compared to our trip this past April, but to me it wouldnt make much sense to cancel after the thousands we are shelling out for our family of 7 to stay onsite, whats a few extra hundred. I am planning on doing alot of my christmas and birthday shopping online over the next couple of months and with any luck I am hoping to get more gas cards from Mypoints. We have roughly 90.00 now, so if I can swing another fifty that will eat some of the cost for us anyway.

We are neighbors, too. We are in Stone Mtn, near Five Forks and Rockbridge.

As to gas prices, we will drive down ALMOST regardless of the price of gas. We can choose to take either gas or diesel, and either gets around 17 mpg.

We will go no matter how much gas would be (fly or drive). We might have to cut back to one trip per year in the worst case. All that being said, gas prices are coming down here (at least short term). Our cut-off point where we decide to fly versus drive is $100 per round-trip air fare (there are 4 of us) - it all may change to $120 depending on what gas is doing at decision-time.
