Will you add on at the Poly?

We bought in at VGF because my husband was tired of waiting for the Poly and at that point the rumors had been going on so long and they ranged from "next year" to "10 years." So we bought lower than we wanted (100 points) figuring that would get us at least one trip per year in a studio (more if we used them elsewhere) and that we would buy 50-100 Poly points whenever that happened.

Pretty sure that we will definitely be buying.

For us we are waiting for the prices before we fully decide but it is where we would like to buy next. We will either buy there or continue to look for a small Blt add on. Just going to depend on price.

I have emotional attachment to Poly because it was the last family trip with my father. Really wanted to buy who rumors first came out and the plans were much larger. Plans scaled back, water bungalows blocking the view I love, and prices getting too high. We will likely hold off. Maybe we will purchase resale there after the next bubble bursts.

I am holding out until we learn the room layouts and costs. There was a thought at one point it would only be studios and either one or two bedrooms but not both of the bedroom options. If that happens the answer will be NO from us. We like the full option of all room layouts. Of course then there is the ... What will the price be?? Like I said time will tell.

I doubt we will buy there. I've never stayed there so I don't have the nostaglic thoughts and memories. However, I am hoping when it opens everyone will try to book Poly and maybe then I can get a room at VGF @ 7 mths. :rotfl:

If you desire to stay at VGF, I suggest looking at your 7 month window. Far more declared rooms right now than points sold means it should be easier to book today than it will be when Poly sales start. We successfully booked VGF for part of our September stay. Could have booked more, but we wanted to stay at BCV for part of our stay.

This is fascinating reading. Interesting hearing everyone's perspective. I don't plan to add any points anywhere. I was shocked to see what the cost of directly buying points was up to the other day. I hadn't been paying attention.

Interestingly enough, I don't have any plans to add on anywhere and it's due to changes at Disney.

I'm in the process of planning a may trip and I absolutely hate the FP+ system
Haven't been thrilled with the restaurant quality since the ddp.
Park crowds.

So all in all, I see using the points I own less and less, can't imagine the need to add on unless some thing drastic happens.

I've always wanted to stay at the Poly and would have for this latest trip but didn't want to chance it with the renovations.

I'm with you Eliza. We just bought DVC in 2012, and noticed a decline in service shortly after buying in. I chalked it up to it being a new process for us, and not understanding the system well enough. We have been visiting yearly/2x a year for the past 6 years and have left the past few trips with a less than 'magical' feeling. I hope it turns around soon! pixiedust:

ETA: Not unhappy with DVC, just with random things here and there around the park that we haven't seen before. Unhappy cast members, things like that.

they have now priced me out of direct purchase. Here is to 7 month availability.

Agreed! NEVER have we EVER had trouble booking at 7 months for any DVC resort we wanted. Trick is knowing how. ;)

Recently, I've noticed that BLT is easier to book at 7-months. Back in January, I could have booked a 1-bedroom standard for a full 7-day, 6-night stay in August.

Timing and persistence are truly key when it comes to reserving your desired week and resort.

No desire to own anywhere on the MK look of resorts. I much prefer being a bit away from the traffic areas. Since MK is our least favorite park, it makes little sense to us. I'd add on at the REAL Hawaii before I'd add on at Poly.

My wife and I are in the camp of adding on right now. We'll have to see what the point charts and price per point look like. Everyone can speculate but no one really knows what they will look like. I would assume they would need to be astronomically high to drive us away, but we only need enough for studio living at least for the next 5-6 years. We are currently renting points every year since our current contract isn't enough to support our thrice-yearly trips so might as well add on and own those points.

Not for us. It's a lovely resort, but the prices for points direct from Disney in general just don't make sense anymore. I'll be happy with the BWV and VGC points I already have.

I have great fondness for the Polynesian Resort. I stayed there in the 70's and recently last summer. Unfortunately, I think I am done purchasing points directly from Disney. I own at VWL, BCV and BLT. I think that is enough. I hope to try it out at the 7 month window in the future.

I'd love to add on but the $160 plus price tag does seem a bit daunting considering 9 years ago it was half that. We've been toying with enough points to do a split stay at poly and BW (buy a small contract) every other year or every three years and then go with whatever we want for the rest. We rarely have trouble getting the resorts but getting the preferred views (MK, Boardwalk, etc) always seems to be a Challenge. A split of poly and BWV with a BW views is my pref, while my wife loves VWL.

I wonder how many of us are going to wait a few years and head to resell

I ran these numbers Friday. We are a family of 6, so we have to have a 2-Br. The Poly would be a summer visit for us, so we need at least 185 points assuming we stay once every three years, based on VGF point charts. 185 x 155 is about 30k.

The poly is absolutely our favorite, but I think we may be priced out... but we will have to see.

Would be very surprised in the points chart at the Poly matched VGF... More likely to match BLT.

VGF is the Disney flagship resort and will always command a premium.

I can say the same but for a different reason. I don't like the changes that are occurring because of the addition of DVC.
