WILL what did you think about.....

Hey ya Will. Here you go.

Glad to hear you kept a Ford motor in it.

My dad keeps talking about getting an A to build. I'm all for going with a flathead :>

Either that or I was thinking of the obscure idea of getting a wrecked Mark 8 (since the are cheap) and pulling the DOHC 4.6 and making that work.

Or I'd really like to build a Factory Five Cobra, or i'd like to...

I have no shortage of ideas on what I'd like to do. Just a shortage of time and money.

So, what have you done with your 87?

I haven't gone wild with mine. Gears, intake, pulleys, converted to duals, lowered, koni's, frame connectors, all the typical odds and ends. I'd like to just ditch the carb and put in a roller motor with F.I..

The 66, is just a little off from stock. It was a basket case we picked up for $600. Put in floors, split the cowl, fixed the rust, painted it, put in a red and white pony interiour. GT trumpets through the valance (want to get the foglights for the grill) and a lo-po '75 302 with a 4bbl. It's a C4 automatic tho. But it does have factory AC!

I hear ya on no shortage of ideas. You know the game to well, time and money, and more time and money. Both look real nice man! You got a nice looking 4 eye there, and with T-Tops, better not get rid of that baby! My 87 just has the bolt on stuff, pulleys, headers, exhaust, 600hp clutch, wicked 8 ball shifter, nothing to crazy yet. I took all the emissions crap off to free up the motor a little. I'd like to park this thing and start from the ground up if you know what I mean.

The 66 is kind of like our 31, it was a mess when we got it. That's my dads 34 in the back.

Ph man I had both since 91. I keep toying around with unloading it for an 87-92, but 84s don't bring enough $ to justify it better off keeping it and buying another!

Both those As are sweet. While yours is a basket case, it will be a fun project.

Aren't you a student as well?

Its been fun over the years. This is definitely a passion I got from my father and will live in me for a long long time, hopefully forever. Some call me crazy cause I have 3 cars, but I say to each is own.

School> Actually I just graduated with my BA, and the 31 is a gift from my dad. Its always been mine, but he wouldn't let me take it until I finished school. Well that day has come and passed now, so I'll probably be bringing her down in Christmas, can't wait! :cool1:

I say keep the 4 eye, and buy another. Only reason I'd sell my fox is to buy another. 4 eyes are a keeper though, and looks to be in real good condition.

I don't rebuild cars, but I have to give y'all full marks for (arguably) the most "guy" thread I've seen on the DIS in, like, forever.

I did notice all the other posters disappeared. :)

Wait 'till we start talking about adjusting the voltage of TPS sensors, where do you keep your timing at anf what kinds plug gap are you running.

I'm certain Pete will see the outpouring and have a segment of the podcast dedicated to the car guys to ask questions!

:rotfl2: I can't wait to take Pete for a ride in the 31, he is going to be in a different world!

We have a '66 Mustang GT that DH's family has been the original owners of...he can't wait to start restoring it. Most of it is in pretty good condition, but it hasn't been driven for about five years (can you say "Money Pit"? LOL).

I think we need Corey to video Petes wild ride with you will. :)

calypso, mustangs really aren't to bad to restore price wise. It all depends how much effort you can put in. Parts are very reasonably priced if you are going after reproduction parts. Sometimes the quality can be suspect, but there are a lot more that are good quality. Of course if you are going for a concourse show car you'll have far more invested than the cars value. But true GTs are worth more, especially if it's a K code.

My 66 I probably put 4k into it. But, we did the welding, body work & paint ourselves. The motor was in good condition and only needed a valve job (which we did too). But my dads a mechanic, so we have access to everytthong we needed.

I'd still say you can keep a driver restore under the price of a new car if you do as much as you can yourself.

That's good to hear! DH is a wonderful mechanic so I know we'll save a ton of money right there. I think this is really just going to be a "hobby" car for him to work on when he has some spare time. He wants to get it to a point where it's road-worthy and looking good...but nothing to the extent of a show car...at least that's the story he's giving me.

LOL. Yes things can get out of hand! But if he's a
Mechanic, being able to do everything saves so much money. 90% of working on car is labor costs.

But that's awesome they owned the car for it's whole life! Right there, that makes it a worth the time. That's rare to find a car in the family for 40 years!

Just hope the coals in good shape! That was the longest job to take care of.

You have to keep us up to date on your progress!

Unfortunately I think it may be several months before he can really get started as our garage is at maximum capacity. Right now the car is being stored in DMIL's garage...but it's 3 hrs away, so not very convenient. We're working on a solution though.

You are so fortunate to have DH skills. That's a huge expense! We have a third bay in our garage that's always being occupied by a labor of love car in progress. Right now it's DSs Porsche. I'll take pics and post them. While on the topic of restoration. I couldn't find a pic of mine so I found one close to it. This was my very first car which was 10 yrs old when I bought it. Mercedes 190sl with a hardtop & a convertable top. It was a stick so I had to borrow a friends VW to learn how to shift. Took myself to the racetrack and learned the right way. Beautiful & perfect not a ding on it. The leather had wear but that was it. Loved that car and drove it for a few years until it started eating me up mechanically. I sold it to a collector. At least I know he gave it a good home.

hey Deb. That's totally awesome yOu took your car out on track to learn how to drive! I'd love to do the same. Butno road courses locally. There is a chapter of SCCA that runs autocrosses, but that looks brutal on a street car.

I'd love to get my 07 SI out to a real track. It winds up to 8k, but you are a menace keeping it between 6-8k while barnstorming back roads! A open track event wpuld be fun with that car.

Your family restores euro cars? That's very cool. But to rich for my blood!

I totally understand the garage dilema! My dad 4 car is full. I only have a one car, so my 66 is at his house. I keep wanting to rip apart my 84 to start over (loveto repaint it). But need more room! Plus 3 kids suck up all my free time.

My next house will have to have lots of land. I want sat least a 3-4 car detached. And 2 car attached.

I don't want much do I? :)

Oh deb, you guys race? I saw your sig. Is that one of those formula fords?

LOL, free time and $$!! Then they grow up and bring home cars of their own to fill up your garage.

That's my #1DS (turned 22 last week) His first race is on my birthday, OMG! Talk about trauma. I promised him if he finished college I would let him (pay for) professional driving school to get his SCCA license. He's been driving all different kinds of cars for a long time. It's an open wheel formula car. He placed 2nd in both of his races at the Poconos in July.Would've won but the winners car was tuned up they discovered later. We realize he won't win this one but hope he gets some good experience out of it. Hopefully, I'll take pics if I can get my head out of my sleeve long enough. Prayers & pixie dust welcome!

Our dream is to have a home with some acreage as well. Right now we have a 3,000 sq ft house w/3 car garage and we always joke that it needs to be the other way around to accommodate all our toys!

Deb ~ That car was a beauty!

We just buy old but new to us cars. Tinker around with them a little and hope that they hold together so DS has a street car to drive occasionally.rotfl Can't race them. It's waaaay too expensive. That's something he'll have to work & dream for.

deb you have one lucky DS! I think we (me and my dad, dw isn't sold on the idea) are going to put DD into a 1/4 midget next year. They start the kids at 5, so we'll see what she thinks. Wish my pop would have got me one of those when I was a kid...

Calypso, sounds like you have what I want! Wanna trade? Unfortunately cars take up so much space. Especially when you tear them apart. :)
