Will we have table mates?

Hello All,
I've read quite a few threads here on various topics involving table mates at dinner. My family and I cruised last January on the Fantasy. There were 5 of us (myself, my wife, and three children). We didn't have any table mates at our table, it was just us, so I didn't realize it wasn't that way for all guests. We did sail concierge, so that may have made a difference. We are sailing again on the Fantasy this November during the week of Thanksgiving, but this time we are not sailing concierge. Can anyone tell me if we should expect to be paired with table mates? I don't think my family would mind either way, I was just curious about what to expect. Thanks a ton for all the feedback!

As a party of 5, it's most likely that you'll have your own (6 top) table. But not guaranteed. We were a party of 5 once and had our own table. Another time, as a party of 3, they put us at an 8 top with a party of 5.

Just a note - as Concierge the default is for you to have your own table, unless you request otherwise.

Thanks, Shmoo! I guess we'll look forward to being surprised at dinner on the first night.

Our first cruise was on the Wonder in 2000. We were a family of 6 and we were seated with a family of 3! After that we were always seated alone and now it's just me and my husband and we sail concierge so we are always by ourselves. I guess we are unsociable because we like it that way lol.

You may have table mates, you may not.

On our cruise last month, we were seated with a family of 5. We are a family of 3 so we had an 8-top table. Ended up with a great friendship with that family...we are friends on facebook now and stay in touch. It was a great opportunity to meet another family! Cruise before that we were linked with another family so we all sat together (7 of us). Cruise before that was our honeymoon (10 year ago!) and we were seated with 3 other couples.

On the most recent one, we didn't request to be alone or to be seated with anyone specific. We were the first to get to the dining room on the first night and we saw our table was an 8-top, so we were anxious to see who we would be eating with. Turned out great! We're from Texas and they live in Canada. It's fun to hear the different dialect. "you guys" vs "y'all", etc.

This reminds me of the lack of research we performed before our first cruise! We had no idea that we'd be seated with other people, let alone at a table of 8. In addition to us (two Australian guys), there were two young American couples and a Japanese guy that spoke very little English. The other two couples formed their own little group, the Japanese guy had, I think, just been through a breakup and had two dinner 'tickets' (one being his ex's) and made a point of ordering two options of every course and only eating half of each. It was very interesting to say the least... thank goodness it was on the Dream so it was only 4 nights! We were much more fortunate on #2 and were sat with one other couple that was quite nice, #3 one of my work friends and her sister joined us and we had the table to the four of us... from #4 onwards we've asked for a table to ourselves, and so far at least have received it :)

When we've been a party of 2 we've (obviously) always had table mates. Once, it was a table of 10 (5 couples), another time it was a table of 4 (just us and another couple). Our last two cruises have been 6 and 7 people (2 and 3 kids respectively) and we've had our own table each time. Both of those we were seated at a 6-top and the last time the high chair was placed at the end of the table. Our next cruise we'll be 7 and no high chairs, so we'll see what they do (not for a couple of years).

We don't request/specify our own table, so someday if our group of 7 gets a 10-spot with 3 others we'll be surprised (but we'll have the numbers, so I'm sure we'll be fine :teeth:).

You can alway call and ask to be seated alone. It's never guaranteed but it always happened so far (3 cruises).

Not necessarily..... We (2 of us) were on the WBTA in 2015 for early seating and were at an 8-top all by ourselves!

I think it's all about how full the seating is......

You had to have been on a low booked ship. Early seating is the more popular of the two - we booked our last cruise a year out and were waitlisted for early seating (we got it eventually, but still).

How far in advance to make such request?

LAX

Any time up to and including the day you board (though I bet the chances are better if you do it well in advance). We always request a table for just our party and it has always been granted (8 times now). We also always check to see if the request was granted the day we board at the location they have setup for dining changes. You could make the request then but I bet your chances go down.

Speaking of surprise. On one of our cruises there were 5 of us, my dw, dd and her husband and my 25 year old single son. We showed up for dinner to a table of 8. We sat down not knowing if anyone was joining us. About 10 min later walk in 3 single first med school students- all female! My son loved disney that week!!!!

We sail as a party of five and have always been assigned our own table without asking. But, last time we were placed with a family of 3 adults. So anything is possible.

We (3 of us) requested to have our own table during our last cruise and the request was granted. Hoping it will be the same for our next cruise...which I have requested again but aware of the possibility that it may not happen.
There were a lot of tables that consisted of one party. Request it and keep your fingers crossed.:)

We requested and received our own table for a party of two. We saw 3 other tables of two near us as well.
