Will we be charged automatic 18% if we have 3 and 3 with seperate checks on DDP?

For the first time we're bringing quests along on our trip in June and it just dawned on me that we'll be 6 guests for dining which, I believe, means an automatic 18% gratuity. We have 2 rooms at WL with the DDP for all (3 guest in each room).

So my question is, even though we have seperate rooms and therefore 2 bills, will each check be charged the 18% gratuity?

If so, can you adjust it if you feel the service did not warrant 18%? Has anyone ever done that? I really hate being told ahead of time what to tip!

I'm not trying to start a tip debate!!! Just wondering how this will work since it's always been just the 4 of us.

yes, you will have the 18% added on.

That being said, tipping is it's own special thread/sticky, so we will likely get deleted or moved.

If you enter a restaurant as a party of six - (no matter if one is an infant - no matter how many different checks) you are automatically charged the 18%. You cannot decrease it. You can add additional though.

This is an industry standard.

Yeah, it really does not matter if you have 6 different bills, the auto-grat will still be charged. It can't be adjusted, unfortunately. I think you'll find most servers warrant at least the 18%, if not more. Especially when dealing with larger parties.

That is not technically true....if you feel that you have received poor service then ask to speak with the manager and tell them the problems and ask that the gratuity be reduced. Most menus that have the blurb about the automatic gratuity will also have in even smaller print, lol...something like "please bring any service issues to the attention of the manager".

That makes sense and what I figured would happen but wanted to make sure so there was no question.

My husband met some friends at Chef Mickey's a couple years ago and they made up a party of 9. My DH and DD were on the DDP so got a seperate check but the waitress tried to charge him for 18% based on 9 people not just him and DD!!!

I don't like surprises so appreciate your responses.

I agree that at Disney that's typically true and we've rarely had an occation there where we didn't tip at least 18%.

I just don't like to be told what I HAVE to do...I'm from Boston
