will universal make an offer to counter disney's free dining?

we were booked to stay at RPR for the first two nights of our vacation, finishing up at wdw but w/the free dining offer that disney is giving, we cannot justify staying at universal, although we will still visit the parks...

does anyone familiar w/universal and their special offers think they will do something to get back those of us that are staying at wdw for the free food?

at the top of every board there's a "banner" type post from webmastercorey that says:

NEW DISNEY WORLD OFFER! MAGIC YOUR WAY PLUS FREE DINING!

and it has a link to click... or if you go to www.mousesavers.com it is there as well...

Thanks for the link. Looks like you have to travel certain dates to get the promotion. If that works for you, great. Does not fit in with our travel plans.

oh, yeah, late summer/early fall (aug 21 thru oct 4)... ya know, hurricane season!!

Hey, Universal hotels offer the FOTL. That's better than "free food" during hurricane season any day!!

it is?! i'd rather buy a book of express passes for a few bucks and get a few hundred bucks worth of food for nothing! besides, the lines during hurricane season are already short!

The thing is, Universal offers FOTL ALL YEAR--they don't just use it to lure visitors at slow times. I would not chose, nor am I able to visit Florida during hurricane season, so Disney's offer is of no use to me, where as Universal's offer is there for the taking whenever I can get there.
Don't get me wrong. I love WDW too, but my last few trips I have enjoyed Universal more because of FOTL.

No, I don't think they will counter offer. Their annual pass is already much, much cheaper than Disney. They offer FOTL for those staying at resorts and their resort prices are very low during non-peak season. I think they are giving as much as they can give during non-peak times.

I sure hope they do!
My DH & I are hoping to go to Universal this Aug~ if they do then there would be no question whether or not we went!

Universal is unlikely to follow suit -- just as Disney won't follow Universal with FOTL (though that may change given some of the Disney FP patents that would provide guests at the richer resorts more open FPs).

This isn't a matter of which park chain is more desperate. They are both making a killing in 2005. Bank on it. The problem is that Universal only has three resorts -- and they are three great resorts. That's why Universal can afford to command $200-$300 a night for its 2000+ room while Disney, with many times over that amount in rooms to fill, will have to get more creative in the off-season.

But, Gigi, you mentioned that you would rather spend $100-$150 on Express Pass booklets for a family of four, but you do realize that FOTL is much better than those Express Pass Plus vouchers (that are only good for one FP on each ride). Tack on the convenience of just walking over to the park of choice and while you can eat more than that at Disney with free food it's something that may be "priceless" to others.

I would keep the vacation split the way you originally had it -- or at least have just one night at RPR so you can take advantage of two days of FOTL.

I just wish they had cheaper resort rates like Disney ..

There are many hotels that are cheap that surround Universal and are about the same distance as the cheap Disney resorts are to the Disney parks. And they receive pretty much the same amenities as the cheap Disney resorts get from Disney.

Sure, but they don't offer FOTL (or EMH like Disney)

It would not be economically reasonable to charge $79 for a hotel room for 4 people that includes FOTL.

Well I'm getting charged near 200 for 4 people per night and that's AP rate.
It was either 149 or 159 for two, plus two more people at 25.00 extra per

Sounds like a good deal for 4 adults.

why not? i don't see the economic "cost" of FOTL, unlike EMH where there is payroll to meet for the extra hours CMs are working... :flower:
