Disney Studios, Stan Lee Sign Exclusive Deal
Comic Book Legend to Develop Projects

LOS ANGELES (June 6) - Walt Disney Studios, a unit of The Walt Disney
Co., said on Wednesday it signed an exclusive multi-year deal with
Stan Lee, the creator and producer of Spider-Man and his production
company POW! Entertainment Inc..

Under the terms, Lee and his company will develop and produce all
forms of entertainment, the Walt Disney unit said in a statement.

Lee is often cited as the creator and inventor of the modern
superhero, whose body of work and compelling characters helped
revolutionize the entertainment industry.

Some of his most enduring characters include Spider-Man, The
Incredible Hulk, X-Men and The Fantastic Four, which have transcended
the comic book genre into successful films.

That's a good question! I just looked on the "Rumors" board and there is a thread there, and I didn't see anything mentioned about IOA

No it will not affect anything at IOA. Why? Because though Stan created all of those characters, he has NO RIGHTS to them movie wise, game wise, or ride wise. Marvel does, and he has no hand in Marvels' decision making process, in fact I dont think he is related to Marvel in anyway shape or form. This deal is also for new ideas, not previously existing ones, including games, movies, and ride deals. He is a creative individual, and will create loads and loads of new characters and stories.....provided his health stays well, he is 84 years old.

GOOD! I figured IOA would be fine, especially since the "island" already existed before the deal was made with Disney.

There actually is another Spiderman ride someplace near Niagra Falls at a place called "Marvel Super Hero City" It looks really bad. But, the thing I'm concerned about is the projects in Dubai.....will they affect the deal that Universal has with Marvel?

Even if Disney would sign an exclusive contract with Marvel it would have no effect on IoA in the short term. The contracts to use Spiderman and other Marvel properties are long term deals. For example the deal for Harry Potter is 10 years + options for 2 five year renewals. Universal Orlando does not have to worry about a new contract for 20 years. The same is going to be true for the Marvel properties. I have no idea how long the contract is good for but I doubt its going to expire any time soon.

Regardless, this deal is with Stan Lee, and not Marvel. Its for new properties, not existing ones, as Marvel, not Stan Lee owns the rights to such things like Spiderman and Hulk.
