Will this end up being the pandemic that cried wolf?

What evidence? You even say that in your area, they don't test for flu. So there's ZERO evidence that anyone had the flu and ZERO evidence that anyone had COVID. Saying "You don't have strep but you have flu symptoms so you must have the flu" is not evidence. To me, it sounds like poor medicine honestly.

Do I think COVID has been around longer than we think? Maybe. I hope so. But there's limited evidence at this point that that's true.
no need to get angry! There is zero evidence that it is NOT COVID. Geez this is not a peer reviewed research study for goodness sakes! Chill out.

Who said I was angry? Wow. You really don't like being questioned. Chill out. ;)

ETA: there's zero evidence that it is not COVID because they didn't test for the flu.

I'm embarrassed our country did this to ourselves based on no accurate information from China.

I'm embarrassed our kids (practically immune by anyone's account) lost every event they looked forward to this spring with little league, dance recitals, tournaments, graduations, etc...

I'm embarrassed the leaders of the Governor's Association destroyed what's left of small businesses and privately owned restaurants.

I'm embarrassed students lost a year of quality education.

I'm embarrassed people don't know how many people die annually from the flu and are using very low numbers of coronavirus deaths to warrant all of this.

And most of all I'm embarrassed that daring to question our self-imposed economic and social destruction is viewed as crazy.

It was the governors association only and has nothing to do with the president? Yah, I can see where you are coming from. :sad2:

Anyway, the very low (if you consider over 50,000 low) corona numbers are because of what we've been doing...so yes, severe precaution was and still is warranted.

Finally, we can recover from a horrible economic situation. We cannot recover from death. Why is that so hard?

Horrible economic situations lead to death. Why is that so hard?

Personal attack.

A number and theory based on opinions.

Fear-mongering.

Yeah, this one doesn't pass the smell test for me. If you have COVID and overdose, which kills you, then the CoD should be overdose, not COVID.

Still, I doubt this is an issue of concern.
My state just removed a death from the count a day or two ago with the following statement in regards to that "The health department said one death was determined not to be related to the virus so it was removed from the state's tally."

It's possible this has happened elsewhere but I don't know if it's statistically significant in terms of number of occurrences.

News flash - Several years ago my 6 year old niece had surgery for recurring bladder infections. They gave her too much morphine and she died of a "drug overdose".

The article you linked says nothing about what drug and how he overdosed. It could have been a mistake in medication. We don't know from the article you linked. It does state:
The man died as a result of a drug overdose while infected with COVID-19, a significant contributing condition,
. It's listed as a death because COVID contributed. Not shocking at all.

Good point - had not considered that.

It would be beneficial IMO if they discussed what was the aspect that made it a significant contributing condition and why.

I would think the overdose led to his death but could it have been that he could have survived had he not had the virus? I mean sometimes you're going to die regardless because of what you took but I guess I could see a weakened immune system, certain symptoms of COVD-19 that could have made a normally non-lethal overdose into a lethal one.

All that said it could be how they are counting the deaths in terms of what qualifications are needed for it to be considered a COVID-19 death.

But you can still recover from that better than you recover from death. I'm guessing you haven't been effected by this virus. Do you really prefer money over lives?

I don’t agree with all the pp said but while the nation may recover from the economic failure over time; just as some individuals may not recover from the virus, some won’t recover economically.

Perhaps the pp hasn’t been personally effected by the virus but perhaps you haven’t been personally effected from economic failure? Had to go bankrupt in a business that was supporting your family? Watched your good paying job go to $0 and not coming back from it?

Both are horrible to deal with and are devastating to a family and an individual.

Money, just for the sake of money, of course is not more important than a human life. But being able to support yourself and your family is important and pretty much needed to survive.

Correct, but our grandparents survived a depression and/or came from poverty - o we know it can be done. While I'm obviously still working, my sister's small business is in jeopardy. She does not agree with demonstrators, however, and knows it's not a good idea to rush back to normal.

Or you could say if he hadn't overdosed he wouldn't have died of Covid.

You do realize a lot of people starved and died during the depression. Not everyone's grandparents survived it. Economic collapses also tend to be followed by a war.
