Will this bag be ok?

Ok ive got this duffle bag its a oblong.

Its 24 long
14 tall
and
16 accossed the bottom


Can I check it at the airport?

DO you think it will survie? Its like a plastic feel.

The dimensions should be fine but ensure that you are not overweight - that is often the critical factor with checked baggage.

Go to your airlines website to check the allowed dimensions and weight, as well as overweight charges.

If you are worried about the bag bursting in flight, ask the counter agent for a large plastic bag - they usually have them to package car seats, etc. I used one twice when a zipper broke on a bag and it arrived just fine.

BTW, you asked about checked luggage, correct? that bag is not ok for carry on luggage....

Ive got a small one for carry-on. I was just worried cause its more of a plastic type material. It seems to be double layered. It survived a trip to camp. Is it totally horible I dont know which airline im using? My sister has both our tickets (she accuses me of being a looser)

It all depends. I've seem very flimsy looking bags make it fine, which seemingly strong luggage gets torn or damaged.

If you are not sure, ask for the large plastic bag - the agent will usually help you to put it inside the bag and seal it.

FWIW, I used a nylon Totes duffle for years for the times when my suitcase is overfull - and I flew over 125,000 miles in 2006, so it was used a LOT. It lasted about 3 years before it got a small hole.

So you never know.... if you're not sure, look for something else or use the plastic bag.

mines a dunlop tennis bag.

So I think im in the zone (right?). I was also told if it had a removable like handle strap it would have to be removed. Is that true? Mine comes off pretty easy.

That's a lot for one month... even for me. I don't keep track of my miles but just counting flights per month it would run about 20k or so... typically 4-6 round trips..

I am bringing up this really OLD thread, because I was searching for info, and have a question about the handles on duffel bags... the PP in this thread said that any removable type straps must be removed. But the regular "attached" strap handles are ok, right? Do I have to do anything special with a duffel vs. a suitcase?

Shoulder straps must be removed, but the other carrying straps are fine. Our duffels are wheeled so we have to push the metal handle in. I don't think there's anything else different from a suitcase which you must do. Be sure to watch the weight.

I love my set of Samsonite duffels! Very tough fabric, lots of pockets, and knooks and crannies to stick small things like socks and undies. The larger one is huge and has wheels.
