Will This Anaheim Convention Center event affect DLR crowds??

I just found out I might have to change the dates of my DLR trip from sept. 22, 23, 24 to sept. 29, 30, and oct. 1st (exactly one week after the original trip dates). I felt like my original dates were perfect, as far as trying to avoid heavy crowds. No cheerleading competitions, no giant groups from utah, and the dates were lodged somewhere between goth days and gay days, plus i'm going on weekdays. ANYWAY, wanting to get an idea for what kind of crowds I might be expecting if I have to end up changing my dates, I checked the calendar of events for the Anaheim Convention Center...nothing on the first two days, and there's a Red Cross Disaster Academy on October 1st. Does anyone think that this particular event would cause DL crowds to be bigger? I wouldn't think so, but I just thought I'd ask you all what you thought.

IMO, it's highly doubtful that the people attending this convention will be heading to DLR on their breaks & evening hours. I think you'll find the dates you have chosen to be great as far as crowds go.

Not to hijack, but how does one go about finding out what is scheduled for the convention center and when those dreded cheerleader competitions are?

we got to USA cheer Nationals every spring at Disneyland. Last weekend of Feb. The high school competitions are usually the very next weekend, 1st or 2nd weekend of March. I don't know about any others. But I'm sad to think you consider us "second class" Disney citizens!

The dance competitions we've been to there were in July usually.

The Red Cross probably has convention sessions scheduled for most of the day. You'd probably see some attendees at the parks or Downtown Disney in the evenings. But I don't think it would affect crowd levels very much. Anaheim has a huge convention center and it's likely that there will usually be some kind of convention going on (some large, some small). Unless it's something like a cheerleading or dance competition where DL is a major draw, I don't think most conventions will affect DL too much. Although, a few months ago, we got a flyer for a seminar on autism that was being held in Anaheim. I showed it to my husband and tried to talk him into going and then making it a long weekend. He just laughed at me and pointed out that they're holding the same seminar an hour from our house and if we went, we would go to that one. Dang! Should have put my finger over the other locations!

Not at all! I don't think of anyone as second class DL citizens...I'd be happy to go during gay days and goth days and any other "days" as well, except that I have 4 kids I have to stand in line with, and one that is highly susceptible to heat exhaustion (passes out/vomits if he is overheated for too long - like when standing in the sun in a long line at Disneyland...). If you've never had to get out of the same line twice to take kids to go pee, or rush to keep one kid cool enough to stay conscious, you might not be able to relate with what I'm talking about, lol.

For our sanity, I have to do my best to choose less crowded times to go. If it were just me and dh, the crowds wouldn't really be an issue. My youngest is only 3...have you ever waited in a one hour line with a 3 year old? It's no fun for anyone.

CRUISE - to answer your question, just go to the anaheimconventioncenter.com website, and then when the homepage loads, you'll see on the left bar, a bunch of different options. Just click on "Calendar of Events". :)

Oh, I do not feel that way about the high school groups that perform at or near Disney. I know for a fact that Disney has a set of standards that the participants are required to follow most of the time they are on Disney property and for sure when preforming..-- before and after.

Difference between teens and adults --adults are just older--I am sure I have done a few things that make my family cringe.

Beth, I don't believe anyone was implying that cheerleaders or any other convention goers are second class Disney citizens. It is a guest's perrogative to avoid conventions just as it is their perrogative to avoid hot months, or cool months or months where there are too many ride refurbs. . .

Personally, I will avoid DLR when there are cheer conventions for the same reason I avoid concerts and other extremely noisy venues. I don't see this as a personal attack against any group, just an avoidance of loud noise.

Oh my, I am afraid I am to blame for your sadness since I used the wording "dreaded"

I in NO WAY ment to imply that cheerleaders or any group are second class citizens. And I truely appologize for any misunderstandings.

On a different note, one convention that I believe WILL draw crowds to DLR is the Blizzcon which is a gaming convention that is Oct 10-11 this year. Many of the gamers were not able to get convention tickets this year because they sold out so quickly, and are instead planning "Dizzcon" (which means they're all going to Disneyland). Add those to all the Blizzcon convention goers and fall breakers, and I would expect unusually high crowds at DLR during those dates.

Actually, I do know what it's like to be at Disneyland with 4 kids. I've been doing it every year with my own 4 kids.

But honestly, my comment was meant to be "tongue-in-cheek", I wasn't offended.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I'd just be happy to never spend another hour standing in line behind a couple playing tonsil-hockey!
