I'm hearing that bags aren't allowed on FJ at Harry Potter... but do Fanny packs count?? That's all I'm planning on bringing!
as long as they don't get in the way of the lap bars, you should be fine. I wore one on all rides including coasters.

You cant have one on the MUmmy Ride..been on it many times and they always make me take it off. Thats the only one I have ever had trouble with at US
Silly question, but can someone explain the prong thing to me? I have one fanny pack that I used for dog training classes and it wrapped around my waist and fastened almost like a belt. I also recently ordered one of those small packs from Universal and if I believe correctly (I don't have it with me) it fastens onto a belt loop. I don't think either one has anything I'd consider to be prongs. So. . . what are y'all talking about? If I need to worry about it, I'd like to do it sooner than later.

What about something like the Vera Bradley Travel belt? It doesn't have prongs, but instead has a metal clasp. The picture below doesn't show the metal clasp well, but it definitely is not going anywhere and it's the smallest, flattest fanny pack I've ever seen (8"x5"x less than 1/2" thick).

Would you be allowed to wear something like this clipped to your belt loop? or around your neck? Do they make you remove necklaces/lanyards?

The prongs are on the buckle. Open the buckle (if there is one) and if there are three tines on the buckle it is a three pronged buckle.

Along the lines of that Vera Bradley bag, I have a bag I use for theme parks. I wear it slung across my body and it sits at my hip. It is pretty small and I have been allowed on numerous rides with it. I haven't been to Universal, however, so I don't know if I'll be able to take it on rides there. Anyone else wear this type of bag and go on some of the thrill rides? If not, it's not huge deal. My sister isn't a big fan of coasters, so she usually ends up holding our bags if necessary.
I wore my vera bradley belt bag with no problem - lanyards also, but I always tucked them under my shirt just to be safe!
