Well, I don't think it's so much that Universal is trying to hide the truth, but more that the employees in Suess Landing are tired of answering the same question. The same way you were curious about the ride, there are dozens of other guests who are just as intrigued. I can imagine that these people constantly ask the workers about the ride. After a while of that, I'm sure the workers realized it was a lot easier to just tell the people that it isn't a ride (technically it isn't) and that it's just a decoration (which, technically, it is), then explain the whole story. Odd are, thats all most guests want to hear.
