Will the New Resorts Reallocate Points?

Just wondering if the new resorts would be the first to reallocate the points, by that I mean change the point requirements for dream season, premium season, etc.? I think with Hawaii having good weather most of the year, how will they determine a value season? GCV may somewhat be close to the other DVC's, however their demand is much greater, don't see why they even need a value season.

I would expect there to be seasons with different point requirements at Hawaii and GCV. The dates of the various seasons will be different than at WDW just like HH has different dates for the various seasons.

I expect the points for DL and HI to be in the range of the current points overall. The difference is likely that there will not be more than 3 seasons, likely no adventure or choice, I'd suspect most of summer, March (and possibly Feb) and Xmas will be Premier. Much of the fall and possibly May will be Dream with the rest likely Magic. While HI is seasonal, it is not as much so as say HH or even VB or Orlando. Unit types and view may also come into play for the HI location esp.

A friend of mine grew up in Hawaii and he said the slower tourist / more rainy season was in the Sept-Oct time frame, so that may be a good candidate for Hawaii's value season... :confused3

It will be interesting to see how the sales go once the points, seasons, and price per point are released. I think this is Disney's opportunity to make a change in the point structure, possibly laying the ground work for future resorts. Getting that bargan in Oct, Nov, Dec may be a thing of the past.

I wouldn't be surprised to see HI be same season all year.

If the Value season points increase (oct-dec) then something else will have to decrease. The total point requirement over the 365 day calander can NEVER increase. What can happen is shuffling or reassignment of points and increase in MF.

Also, one of two things will happen with the new resorts. They will stick to the same seasons as alread in place for DVC. Yes the spread between Value and Premier will be much less then in orlando, but the structure should remain the same.... OR.... the season for ALL resorts are restructured to 3 or 4 season with point rearrangement, but keep in mind that it will still have to balance for points requirement over the current 365 day calander.

It is certainly possible that new resorts will require more points per room-year than current resorts. That's already true of, e.g. OKW vs. SSR.

Owners in other point systems (notably Wyndham and WorldMark) have been seeing such "point creep" for some time.

I believe this is only true once the points have been released for that new resort.....since no points have been released as of yet, they can set those points however they want. Hopefully Tim or Dean will chime in on this.

HHI and VB have very different seasons that the resorts at WDW if you look at the points charts.

Yes they do, and Vero's weekend points are really high. There is no steadfast rule that I am aware of that says what level the points must be kept at. Look at AKV cconcierge. Especially if DVC grows around the world, we are about to embark on very high point charts.

The II seasons for Oahu are 1-34, 51 & 52 are high, 49-50 is Low and the rest is Mid, same as Maui. The 2 weeks before Xmas are the slowest for all the islands, same for the Caribbean and MX. If you look at the Marriott resorts on Maui and Oahu, they are the same all year (Platinum) except for weeks 51 & 52 which are either fixed week/fixed unit or Platinum Plus which is effectively fixed week floating unit.

What happens in HI isn't going to be a reflection on Disney's approach going forward. It will simply be a statement of their interpretation of the demand for that resort. I'd guess they'll have 2 or possibly 3 different views with points costs accordingly but we shall see. The "bargain" for the fall for WDW is simply a reflection on the overall demand for the area during the time. The only unusual thing about it is that the DVC demand hasn't been an exact match to the overall experience but it is not as different OVERALL for DVc as some would like to think.

Agreed, though I think limited variation is far more likely. If it's the same throughout it'd likely all be premier. I could certainly see a match to the Marriott's with Magic for all except weeks 51 & 52 as premier.
