Dee, I agree with you, but, some people simply know best.
After all this time, I know you know that. ;)
It never fails to crack me up! I hate to burst anyone's balloon but..........the regular posters here on the DIS are NOT the end all and be all of DVC! FAR FROM It! DVC is prefectly capable of surviving quite well without the handful of members here on this board. DVC is quite capable of making their own policies, rules etc without all the self appointed experts and DVC gurus that hang out here, no matter who they are or how highly revered they may be by some.
Sorry, but although DIS is a wonderful site, definitly one of the best Disney related sites around, it is still small potatoes compared to the real number of people that own a DVC membership.

How did it manage to permeate your unit? I find it difficult to believe it went through the walls and there is NO shared ductwork. My guess is the previous guests smoked and left a lot of residue
Other people don't like being called liars, either.

Or neurotic.

Non-Smoking is safer for the DVC and Healthier for the DVC Members. I would support the non-smoking bill 100%.
We stayed on the 4th Floor at BCV in October and our room reaked of smoke.

I have not done either one. I was not pointing fingers at anyone.
I questioned one response, I stated that some non smokers are neurotic, and they are, many smokers are also. I also questioned an opinion.
I am very careful who I call a liar (I rarely do and most definitely NEVER anyone I do not personally know.) and who I call neurotic.

It is safer for DVC and healthier for the DVC members NOT to inhale the fumes from the busses, shall we eliminate them too?

This has begun to drift from the topic.

Please keep posts to the topic of the thread.

Thanks.

I think your own words are more telling than your recantation Gail. You were implying that these people couldn't be telling the truth, ergo, lying. And that they were neurotic.

Because someone has an extreme aversion to the smell of stale cigarette smoke does not make them neurotic. My family and I as well find it particularly unpleasant.

To get back on topic, I think it would be very difficult to manage a complete no smoking rule. I have no problem with there being smoking accommodations available, so long as I don't have to stay in one. I care very little what other people choose to do, as long as it's not criminal and doesn't encroach on my space/time/enjoyment.

More disturbing is the suggestion that cast members would encourage smoking in non-smoking rooms. If this is the case, than the non-smoking room tag is a fallacy.

Just wanted the opinions of DVC members if you think DVC resorts should do the same and charge the credit card of the offending person
rauch25.gif
an amount ($165

Nick,
This sounds like a very credible way to handle the problem of smokers smoking in non-smoking rooms. Why should everyone bear these cleanup costs in extra dues. If CMs are providing mistaken instructions, they can be corrected as well. Smoker's shouldn't violate the rules and smoke in non-smoking rooms, and ruing a non-smokers stay. This would be a great way to enforce non-smoking rules. I like the idea.

I don't think this($165 charge) would be very difficult to implement. At least it would be a deterent for a smoker to think about before lighting up

and hurting them where it counts.......on there credit card.

As to the Grand Californian at DL, we have stayed there on 4 different occasions and each time you are required to sign the no smoking clause and that you agree to pay the penalty if caught smoking in your room. I was thinking it was more than $165 but can't remember exactly. As a non-smoker, asthmatic and respiratory therapist I was thrilled to see this. We visit California yearly and I love going into restaurants and not having to worry about the smoking section. On the other hand, as a DVC owner I do support having smoking rooms. It is a purchase and if I was a smoker I would want that option on a real estate interest that I purchased. The Grand Californian is a choice and one we love but for the smokers in the world, I can see where this wouldn't be optional.

Nick,
I think charging would be a great idea, however, before that were to take place I would love to see DVC start charging for all the items that grow legs and walk. Given the fact that they do not, I really doubt they would charge anyone for smoking in a non smoking room especially since they will supply ashtrays to smokers in non smoking rooms.

Ah, DVC members are a talented lot, and now we can add mind reading to the skills. Amazing.

and, one this smoker would not choose. :)

I think there may be a reasonable compromise here.
How about making smoking/non-smoking a guaranteed thing instead of just a request? On top of that, charge the fee for smoking in a non-smoking room.
This would give everyone a choice of what to accept, and what the consequences are. Opinions?

I am sorry but for someone to say that smoke can penetrate a concrete balcony and rise into their room when someone is smoking outside on a balcony one story below.............IS BEING NEUROTIC!

Obviously, the prior warning wasn't enough.
