I am not used to being called a liar, but, I can tell you that I was placed in a non smoking room at OKW, called the front desk, told them that I had requested a smoking room, they said they would send someone with ashtrays or they could move me. I opted to be moved. I am not making this up and it does happen a lot, regardless of whether you choose to believe it or not.

Whether you believe it or not it is true! I have had the same thing happen to me quite a few times and I have heard of it happening to friends also. The housekeeping dept will even provide the guests with ash trays.

You seem quite defensive and agitated about this issue.

And I stand by my ascertion that while anything is possible, I dson't think it is common place on the part of the resort staff to make such a suggestion. Unless they are one of those inconsiderate smokers we are talking about...

No, I am not defensive or agitated about this issue, what made me defensive was this:

That was in your response to Floridafam, both DeeP and I have made the same statements. It most certainly is common practice.
It has been happening since I joined in 92.

By default having a hard time believing something that has been stated by at least 3 different people is akin to calling them liars.
I could understand your difficulty in believing this if it was heresay, but, it is, in fact, not the case.
I am not an inconsiderate smoker by any stretch of the imigination and when I told the front desk that I was in a non smoking unit and I requested a smoking one, they, without as much as a moment's hesitation, offered me ashtrays.

You need to resize it in a program that can post it.

Nick, this seems like a very good idea. It's terrible to get your vacation ruined by being a non-moker placed in an uhhealthy smoking room where you cannot sleep due to the previous guests smoking (perhaps on a non-smoking room). A charge may curb the infractions. Cleanin cost charges could help reduce dues, which are currently paying to rectify these willifully negligent offences.

Lets see, three people, out of how many tens of thousands which have stayed, have had the "go ahead and smoke in a non-smoking room" suggestion made to them. What would the appropriate percentage be for it to be common place?

I'm not a statistical wizard, but I think it would have to be a great many more than three.

I stand by my ascertain, the recommendation from cast members to smoke in an non-smoking room is not encouraged nor suggested (allowing for isolated occurances).

Smoking is not part of the package. While it was allowed when one bought. There is no requirement, legal or otherwise, that would require smoking units be available. I have no problem with someone smoking in a smoking unit but feel the $165 fee is appropriate if one smokes in a non smoking unit and that any CM that tells someone they can smoke in a non smoking unit should be disciplined and fired for repeat offenses.

Is anyone going to an annual meeting in December. Maybe it would be appropriate to question why any CM would suggest that it is O.K. to smoke in a non-smoking room?

Photosuite is the program I use and it is almost impossible to resize it without a program similar. The Tech board has some suggestions.
Again, I will be happy to help anytime.

This smoking hysteria is almost laughable at times....yes there should always be smoking rooms available. It is legal in this country....I dont smoke, but i find it hysterical when people become apoplectic about the hint of cigarette smell anywhere near them.....do these same people become so upset when a school bus picks up their children and dumps massive amounts of polution into the air from the exhaust...or do they drive to disney in their giant SUV that does more to create an unhealthy atmosphere then any ciggarette smoke could ever do...while we are at it lets have Curry free rooms. No more Raman noodles...I hate the smell, and I wont take it any more....More americans die from the effects of fast food then from cigarettes. Should disneu immediately stop selling those deep fried chicken fingers that my kids love!!!!.....I know people will blow me up, but this particular subject gets under my skin...smoking is the "in" thing to get all bent out of shape about, when there are so many other problems that exist that are larger

For example...I would love for disney to control the amount of alcohol it serves its patrons. Does anyone else worry about all those people driving around the property at night after PI closes...I know I do, and i find it a bigger issue then whether there are smoking or non smoking rooms.

Whatever you want. You can stand by your "ascertain", but, there is nothing certain or any certainty about it. I would imagine it happens a lot more than any of us know, and I believe that is where the complaints about the odor of smoke come from.
But, you have it your way, I could care less.

Considering the number of DVC members that read the DIS board on a regular basis vs the number of DVC members that actually exist in the real world ,a sample group size of 3 is a small sample group but not really that out of proportion given the size of the group of DVC members that read the DIS.
