will the draft be reininstated?

In all honesty, I vote, but as an individual I really don't feel it makes a difference at all. As a nation, we all choose once every 4 years, as individuals however, we're really nothing. I don't think it's any great right to have a 1 in what, 200,000,000 say in who is president every 4 years? To me, it really means nothing. As I said, I vote because I feel it's more a responsibility (to keep Kerry out of office this year) than a privilege.

Our rights in a democracy is where the meaning comes in for me!

I think that's a really sad view to take.

I think it's pretty obvious that people really take the right to vote for granted. I guess some people have to actually do without something in order to appreciate it.

So then, you don't believe that equal rights dictate equal responsibilities? You are willing to tell half the population that they must be willing to fight and die for the rights of all?

Well, let's get down to equal rights. How many of you have husbands who do the dishes, do the laundry, do at least half of the child rearing? How many husbands out there get up at 2AM for feeding time and change diapers and do half the shopping and attend all the parent teacher conferences, kiddy plays and the like? How many husbands split all household chores (where you both work of course) 50/50? Sure, many do, but we're still not even to a point where men are really sharing (at least in my house when I worked, in my inlaws house, in my brothers house, or my one BIL's house, the women did mostly everything at home. My SIL and her hubby share things equally, but that's the only place I've seen it) half of all of these responsibilities. Granted, it's not really the same thing, but then again, it is!

These are the jobs women do all the time, and continue in times of war too.

This really isn't a new concept! I don't recall ever reading men complain that their wives weren't fighting beside them in any previous war we've ever encountered.

But that's what happens now - we are selectively telling men that they must register for the draft.

I believe that should be the policy with all draft dodgers.

That's not the way it is. So many people get out of the draft. And not everyone has to serve.

If this is a DEBATE.........count me out. As for my opinion, I don't think there will be a draft again.....unless people stop signing up. Now, while that doesn't sound like rocket science, I truly don't think we are in a position to have to have a draft.

Well, we'll count you out....:) I think we all can agree on your sediment though! I don't think anyone here wants a draft of any kind.

I'm sorry, but how can you possibly agree with it when you have spent an entire thread saying that your daughter should rely on someone else to fight for her rights???

I might have missed a post along the lines. It's hard to keep up here!

I don't want my daughter relying on any man to support her financially. Is that stated better?

You know what Brenda? I'm done with this debate. Ask me what my stance is with designer handbags versus my own life, and I'll give up all my Christain Dior, Gucci, Burberry, and Fendi for my life in a heartbeat.

All you do is try to insult me with these petty comments. I feel like I'm in junior high again. Obviously we're not going to see eye to eye on the subject, and frankly I have better things to do with my night than spend them on the Dis debating with people who are older than me that lack maturity and people skills.

Now if you excuse me, I have to put on my pink Coach sandles and matching Pink coach handbags and drive off to pick up my friends.

If anything interesting is posted I might reply later. have a good night everyone!

Have fun Evil Princess!

Let them all eat cake!

If we really had a say in who was running, I might tend to agree more with you. Now, I realize any Independent can run, but when was the last time an Independent won an election? We're basically given 2 and to be frankly honest with you, I highly doubt either of those two are the BEST men for the job. Is Kerry really the best the Dem's got? I don't think so! I'd hope we can both agree that there are some good Democrats out there that really do have the best interests of the country in mind. Kerry IMO, has his best interests in mind. I'll support Bush too, but do you really believe he is the best Republican for the job?

At the end of the day however, whoever is going to win, will more than likely win whether I go to the polls or not. I really don't believe I'll make a difference. I won't let that fact keep me home, but that's what I believe!

Now, the right to choose my religion, or not choose it. The right to make all sorts of choices about what I WANT to do (within the law of course) is well worth fighting and dying for to me! Yes, I'd die for this country, but I don't want to sacrifice my child!

I do this stuff 100 percent of the time. Can I be exempt from the draft? ;) Somehow, I don't think that'll get me an exemption. That pesky Y chromosome of mine...

Make sure you don't drink and drive - you might kill someone, be convicted of a felony and lose your right to vote. Oh wait...that isn't something you really care about, so carry on!

Number one, I wasn't drinking. It's Sunday night, I'm living with my parents at home, and I was going to pick up friends. Where on EARTH did I say that I was going out to a bar or actually partying?

And secondly, if I was STUPID enough to drink and drive and put my life, the lives of my friends in my car, and the lives of anyone else on the road in danger than I should be convited of a felony, lose not only my right to vote (whether I care or not), but also my right to operate a car.

You realize your statement really didn't have ANY weight now did it?

Apparently now not only am I a horrible American who sets back the women's movement a few hundred years, but now I'm a felon without even committing a crime...right...anything else we want to accuse me of? Drug dealing perhaps? Murder?

> Now what is going to happen, if they are taken hostage and these terroist are raping and torturing some girl in his group. They tell him if he does not tell all they will continue. Well, I for one, would want him to tell all!!!<

Gee, I hope your son doesn't have any info in his head that would hurt MY family members, male or female.....this statement is ridiculous!!

Sorry, but that one person/group is the only thing in the world? You need to see that there are more consequences to HIS actions than that! There is compassion and then there's bending over and kissing your *** goodbye!

I don't feel there will be any type of draft anytime soon because for every physically fit American child/teenager there are how many who can't run 100 yards? A draft would be useless, since a good percentage of draftees would have to go to a fat farm first! Government sponsored weight loss programs.....here we come!!

Not that you'd care, but you're about one post from being the 1st person I've ever added to my ignore list. You're getting to be a little repetitive!

You're correct, it doesn't matter to me. All I did was point out (with tongue firmly in cheek) that if I shouldn't believe anything anyone ever says on a BB then that applies to you, too. Why should I or anyone else believe your statements over others?

Honestly, I find your logic faulty and your arguments weak. Doesn't mean you're a bad person or a bad mother. Conversely, my willingness to take people's statements at face value until I find out otherwise doesn't mean I'm gullible. It means I'm willing to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I guess I do that because I know my posts are honest and above board and I typically expect others to be the same...until I find out differently. Then I don't bother to give them the time of day.

No, it won't. Not to mention the fact that when women go off to war, their husbands or other family members are doing all of these things for the kids while Mom is gone.

anything else we want to accuse me of?

Re-read what I wrote. I didn't accuse you of anything, I just offered some advice.

Princess, when you say or do something noteworthy to command my attention I'll be happy to listen and give your view the merit it deserves. Beyond that, I don't intend to 'listen up' to a spoiled, petulant child who is less than half my age. Get over your bad self, k?

I have two daughters, both very girly-girls who love to shop, wear designer fashions, etc.

I have no desire to see eithe rof them in a uniform -- unless it's a cheerleader uniform for the local high school.

If either of them were ever compelled to serve in the armed forced, I am certain they would adapt. And that they'd serve well.

Their grandfather is a World War II veteran. He had an illness at age 8 and developed a heart murmer, was excused from participation in gym class all during his school days. Never thought he'd be drafted, was surprised at age 18 that he was sent to basic training in Georgia -- and he surived and adapted, and served well.

And if either of my daughters were captured in combat, I would hope that their fellow soldiers would treat them the same way a male captive would be treated. Or is is acceptable to allowed male prsioners to be tortured but not female?

Well that's really sad. I'd love to learn why I'm spoiled when you know not one thing about me. Is it my love for shopping and designer handbags? Wow, I'm so different from most girls my age. Did you ever inquire how I bought those bags, or did you just assume that mommy and daddy bought them for me? You can assume all you want, that doesn't really matter to me, but get your facts straight before you call me spoiled.

Personally I think that the reason why you won't take my arguemntents seriously is because I am half your age, which is a shame, given that I show you way more respect than you've ever shown me. Funny how someone twice my age can have the attitude of someone about half my age. ::yes::
