Will the 50 year celebration be really special?

We're going in May -- do you think this one will be really special? Seems like they are always celebrating something - and it's always special - but what do you make of this one?

I think that it will be really big! This is the biggest celebration since 9/11 and people will want to get out and really do it right! What better place than one of the Disney parks. This celebration is not just for one location but at all of the Disney owned parks around the world. WDW has a new attraction for each of its parks, including one water park scheduled to open at some time during the celebration. Disneyland is also introducing Buzz Lightyear's Ranger Spin. I am really looking forward to seeing Disney shine this next year, and for many years to come! :cool1:

I liked your explanation. The 9/11 point is well taken. I think this is a big event too because if DL had not been built 50 years ago, there would be no WDW today. I think it great that there is a big event for "her" 50th birthday....BTW, it's my birthday too so I keep telling myself that everyone is helping me celebrated my big 50!

I got an email from disneydirect.com the other day and they mentioned merchandise that they will be carrying. They said in May they will be carrying 50th anniversary stuff. I can't wait to see any and all new collectibles celebrating the big 50. I'll be there for the kickoff!!

Does anyone know exactly how long it will last? I thought I read somewhere that it would be 18 months long but that isn't real specific. I'm going the last week of Sept./first week of Oct. and I'm really hoping that I'll get to enjoy some of it!!

I've been trying to find out the same thing. We're planning for the last week of October '06, and I'm afraid we'll miss it. The DIS main page says 17 months, Deb Wills' site says 18 months -- I wish there was a way to be certain.

I'm not sure what you are going to miss. The main features of the celebration are the opening of Soarin' at Epcot, Lights Cars at MGM, the new Cinderella show at the castle. Those will still be there. They just use the "celebration" theme as an advertising & merchandise vehicle. I wouldn't be surprised if they extended it to the end of 2006 unless there is something new they want to showcase. They always have some kind of celebration going to get people's attention and sell merchandise.

Honestly, what I don't want to miss is seeing the Castle all done up. I'm wondering how long it will be decorated.

If it is approximately 18 months long, it should run through December of '06.

Does anyone know if there will be any new parades for the 50th?

I was wondering if the MK will have a new afternoon parade for it.

Nothing has been released about a new afternoon parade for the 50th at WDW. All of the other new things that will be going on have been announced, so if there was to be a new parade, I would think we would have heard by now. Perhaps there will be a new parade at Disneyland!
