In which I completely abandon all literary technique and throw together a whole bunch of mish mosh, all trip related, but not necessarily related to one another other than the fact that they're related to the trip, thereby making them somewhat related to each other.
May not be longest sentence ever, but it's certainly on it's way to being the most confusing.
Up first we have what my new Teva Sandal pic should have looked like.
Pretty toes, huh? I did that yesterday, all by my onesy savvy. I was quite proud too. It's been a long time since I let the toes know how important they were with some polish, and I think they actually thanked me. I could never, ever do red on my hands...just not a fan of it on me as I have very fair skin, but I really like it on my toes. I think it forms a pleasing contrast with my new green kicks.
I've been thinking a lot lately about clothes and shoes. Doesn't every woman? And since I'm really set on the clothes front (read I don't have to do laundry for myself during our 8 day vacation) it frees up a lot of time to think about shoes.
So here's what I already have.
Up top there we have my lovely Reeboks. These cuties are coming no matter what because they're comfy, supportive, and I do plan on working out at the health club on vacation, so they're a must. I worry about them being breathable enough for all day touring, because I sweat through my feet. And if I use them to work out in the morning, do I really want to throw them back on after I've showered, etc. It is possible to work out at night, but I'm just throwing stuff out there to cover all possible scenarios.
On the bottom we have my Adidas flips. I had seriously debated just getting a fresh pair of the black ones. They're very very comfortable, the footbed is like a memory foam and it molds to your foat. Now these are quite well broken in, and I did wear them in the World last year. Were they supportive enough for all day touring? In the sense that I didn't notice my feet hurt until we got back to the hotel, sure. I know I love those, and I know I could wear them, but I also know they're not the most supportive option like the sneakers.
Of coures we have the previously mentioned Tevas which are conforming very well to my foot, and the straps have loosened. :: phew :: And my mom even liked them! Mom's stamp of approval is huge, we don't always agree on footwear, and she thought they were cute. Are the Tevas comfy? Feels pretty good. Will they work for all day touring? No idea, I have no past precedent here.
Enter then, the debate. Some other possible ways to increase my shoe wardrobe. I mean if I'm going to catch up to Tink I have to start somewhere, right?
So we have these. Photos are slightly larger so you have more detail.
These are Tevas. I think the black would go with everything but are boring, I like the blue but question their ability to match anything but denim, and I LOVE the green. They're a lighter fabric, and reviews indicate them to be a great summer shoe.
There are also these.
These are Merrells. I love Merrells. They have incredible support, and they're all I wear to work. They're a new style so not a lot of reviews yet, but this is a brand I trust. I just question that the fabric might be too heavy for Florida...not sure. I should also point out I had planned to purchase another pair of black Merrells this fall/winter anyway for work. I currently have black clogs, and during the colder months, they're just not warm enough for my feet.
Now, so that you are able to make a completely informed decision, bear with me here. I'm going to regale you with tales from my closet. In which the vacation clothes currently reside. Some of them, in fact, will remain completely unworn until vacation. Yes, I'm crazy, and I like "fresh" clothes for vacation, not ones I've been wearing all summer long.
And what wardrobe would be complete without at least one Captain Jack tank?
I'm not going to make you look at all my shorts/bottoms. Suffice it to say there's two pair of jean shorts, two pair of khaki shorts, one jean skirt, green fatigue capris, black capris with a cuff above the knee...have I hit eight bottoms yet? Nope, that's seven. Hmmm....I know there's one more. Ah well. Anyway, most everything is interchangeable.
So there you have the basics of my vacation wardrobe. I think the green Teva sneaks would go with most of my outfits, but not all. I know the Merrell Mary Janes would go with everything. I am torn between fashion and sensibility. What's a pirate to do? And don't say buy both, I already thought of that.
I have a fashion bargain to share with you all that I keep forgetting to put in my chapters! My favorite pair of Levis is in a sad state of disrepair. They are so broken in they're not the same color they were when I got them, kwim? They have been loved and worn and washed and loved some more. I wear them all the time during the cooler months on my days off. Suffice it to say I was bummed about having to replace them, because they fit so well and because they're a little pricey.
Well what to my wondering eyes appeared in Costco one day? The very same Levis I wear! The same style code, and wonder of wonders they had my size!!!! It was fate, it was miraculous, it was....inexpensive! They were selling them for $9.97. Oh, heaven. Oh, sweet bliss. I sometimes like to wear jeans on the plane ride down as it can be a bit chilly, and then I'll switch to a "park outfit" after we git sit'chuated. So that was one of my great finds.
I am also happy to report that the airport debacle is pretty much over. I was able have a little chat with dad about my return flight, and it's a non-issue. He won't even have to switch a shift to be able to pick us up. Since we'll be landing at 1215, probably getting luggage around 1230, that's okay with his schedule. And, if all else fails and we get stuck for a bit, we could always get some McDonald's since it will be around lunch time and have a little nosh while retrieving our bags. That'll take a bit longer, so if he can't make it to us until 100pm, no biggie. So that's settled as well.
Everything is starting to come together.
I don't have a list, but I know there are some things I need to/would like to do soon.
Towards the end of the summer, DS will need a new pair of sneakers. I have a feeling he'll mostly wear his yellow
Crocs on this vacation, but I really want a good supportive sneaker in case his feet hurt. I'll also need to get him a white tee to be part of his pirate costume. This I'm not worried about. That's a simple trip to
Walmart, and I'll save it until a week or two before, since I'll need to see what size he is then. The boy's growing like a weed!
I'll need to formulate a packing list. I have my old one to go off of from last year, but I need to revise/add things to it.
I need to figure out the number for the woman at the Coral Reef and check about personalized menus. I think I really want to do this for DH, and DS would just get a kick out of it. I haven't thought of the exact wording yet, but something to the effect of "Thank you for making my life 'A Pirate's Life for Three'. I love you both very much." Then I just have to pick some nice pics of us to send. LL, do you have the contact number somewhere?
I need to go through our sample sized tolietries, see what we have, see what we need. Just your basic before trip stuff is really what I'm down to here. And since it's almost August, I do need to get crackin'. I'll need to make an appointment for DS to get his hair cut, my hair cut and eyebrows waxed. Just little stuff, kwim?
Today I plan to go through DS shirts and see which ones are :::sniff, sniff::: too small. Best to weed them out now. While I'm at it, I may go through some of his older clothes as well maybe see if I could Ebay some things and put some more money in the trip fund.
So we're trucking along in ye ole TK household. Ready for our adventures to begin, with some last minute planning to do, I mean non-itinerary itinerary...
