Has anyone heard what is happening with Landry's? :listen: They own Rain Forest,TRex and Yak & Yeti. Are they going to file bankruptcy?

I have a reservation at T Rex in June. I got up early the morning they began taking reservations and got the exact time I wanted.
It's always something.:charac2:

I am aware that my reasons for wanting to know are a bit shallow. :hippie:

I can't imagine Landry's would go under. I read the article on Yahoo that mentioned them as one of the companies that are at risk, but I think the numbers may have been a little misleading.

They just spent a lot of money rebuilding the Kemah boardwalk (a local amusement park, of sorts) after Hurricane Ike. They may start divesting some of their brands, but I would imagine everything at Disney would be OK.:thumbsup2

15 companies that may not survive 2009:

although thier stock currently seems to be worth more than it's currently trading for:

I doubt they'll go under, but having worked for a large chain that was speculated to be in serious trouble, the negativity will most likely be obvious in their restaurants. People at the POS level are rarely kept "in the loop" and the uncertainty and lack of communication makes for a very dicey work situation. Stupid on the part of the company, as those are the people with the contact with their income source, but it'a the way of things. Upper management usually assumes that the "frontline" employees are too stupid to understand the complexities of the business world!:sad2:

I think they should start accepting the dining plan at all their locations in WDW, not just Yak N Yeti. Lots of people these days do the packages through WDW with the dining plans. At the very least, I don't see how taking the dining plans would hurt them. They may get paid slightly less by Disney than they would by a cash customer, but surely it would bring in more business. :confused3

I hope they don't go under. I love Joe's Crab shack in Mrytle Beach.

My Dh has an inside scoop (due to his job) and says it's not looking good for Landry's. Hang on to your plans-- don't cancel anything yet-- but they are bankrupt and will have to choose to re-organize or close up shop, or just close some of the underpreforming restaurants.

I wouldn't rule anything out-- but they (Landry's) are on the "list" of places that may not survive the economic downturn.

ETA-- I see someone has linked to the public article about the 15 companies that may not survive--

I ate dinner at a Rainforest Cafe in Nashville yesterday, and at 5:30 pm it was so empty you could have gone deer hunting in there. I'd never seen that before. The flagship Gaylord Opryland Hotel laid off 300 people yesterday.

Challenging days.

Accepting the DP has its complexities and isn't as profitable as straight payment guests. As a new operation they'll need to get their operation under control and establish a baseline before they can make such a discount program a part of their daily operations. Also the fact that they are in Downtown Disney gives them further reach to Orlando guests and residents that the resort/park restaurants don't enjoy to the same level.

Now, I'll admit if I have our little guy with us I expect to be on the DP, so TRex wouldn't be an option for us. I'm taking a solo non DP trip soon and TRex doesn't appeal to me. They just can't win with me, huh. ...lol

The decor is nice but even so they either need to bring the prices down or the service & quality up so that it matches. It's just ridiculously expensive and as much as I'd like to go to T-rex the menu and prices deter me

I live in the DC Metro Area and Landry's just closed the only two Rainforest Cafe's we had (Tyson's Corner and Towson). I wish they were still open the kids loved them.

We have a ressie for our trip in July ....going to Rainforest too....kids love them....We'll have to see what happens.....I really hope what happens is something good all around on all levels for every industry including my 401(k)!

We only ate there once. I had to send my lunch back because it was very cold. The lady at the table next to me also sent her food back. I ordered the Paleo Shrimp which was about $18 or $19, and, once it was prepared properly, was wonderful. I have to say only the price will keep us away and the menu offers very little for the vegetarians in our party. They could at least offer a veggie burger.

Well, that explains why T-Rex's prices are so outrageous, even for a resort area. Reminds me of the way Circuit City's prices went up just before they closed up shop.

I was in there at peak dinnertime on a Monday in December, and two-thirds of the tables were empty.

well thats a huge disappointment I live in the DC Metro area as well and I was going to take my son for his 4th bday this year in Towson but scratched it at the last minute I was hoping we could go back but I guess not!:sad2:
