Will Southwest prices change?

We're going the end of August. Had everything set, got SUPER prices on Southwest. And then things changed with the kids' school calendar and soccer season. So...have to adjust the dates.

Originally had round trip for just over $800 for four of us. Was able to rebook flight down at $126, not bad. But flight home is now $237!!!! We want a late flight--don't want to get up for a flight first thing in the morning.

Is there a chance these numbers will still fluctuate? Will they change when the next set of dates is released later this week? How long can I reasonably wait before I just have to bite the bullet and make a decision?

I know no one has a crystal ball, but what has past experience been like? I've held off on rebooking the return flight, so still have my original date at this point. It does need to be changed, but not sure how long I can play the "wait and see" game!

Prices are based on demand. The later flights are higher in demand so I would not bet on a lower price.

The flight will drop if: A)Other passengers cancel or B)Southwest marks the flights down. Historically they have run a discounted flight sale in early June. I personally wouldn't bank on either and take the cheaper, earlier flight.

Where are you flying out of? Do you have other nearby airports that may be cheaper?

Those look similar to the prices out of PHL. We are 20 minutes from PHL.

We were going to fly, then drive and we've decided to just fly bought our tickets going out of Baltimore.

$1400 RT out of PHL. We paid $920 RT out of BWI.

We're flying out of Providence, which is only about 15-20 minutes away from our house. Could go to Boston, but that's an hour or more away and no direct flights. Other option would be Hartford, CT, but that's a good two hours away and not as many flights per day. We'd have to leave super early and come back really, really late--or get a room to stay over there, which kind of cancels out any savings.

I was looking some more and if we actually wait and fly out super early the next morning, we'd save enough to pay for the extra night at POFQ plus $100 or so. So that's the backup plan if I can't get a better price on the day we want.

Southwest opened another sale yesterday, did you check the prices?

I thought it was actually tomorrow that they're opening up more. Right now it's through Oct 30--and yesterday everything seemed to go up by a few dollars. Not huge, just a few dollars each. Thought maybe they were getting ready to then bump everything back down tomorrow! I know--wishful thinking!
