I need airline tickets for June. They are currently about $385 each. Will Delta drop their prices once SWA releases more dates? DH is convinced that I need to get tickets now b/c prices will only increase. However, when I went to book our flight, it only shows that there are 10 seats not available & the rest of the plane is still open. Would you buy now or wait?

If it were me, I would wait. I would not pay $385.00 for a ticket, and delta is one of the highest priced airlines right now. I don't know where you are flying out of, but I would check other airlines. I am looking for tickets for my trip in May and the prices at my local airport are very high. I am problaby going to go to Detroit to get my plane, tickets are much cheaper. I would also go to www.kayak.com and check them out. They will check out all the airline fares and nearby airports for you. I am not sure when I will purchase my ticket, I may wait until after the holidays.

A travel agent advised me last week that once SWA releases their fares, the other airlines tend to get more competitive. So yes it is a possibility those prices may drop, but it's a gamble. The longer you wait, the more it could backfire.

I am finding these days that the best airfare deals are through the carrier on their own internet site. For example, I was really worried about the airfare for next year with oil hitting $90 a barrel already and rumored to go to $100. I booked our airfare at continental.com and found the best deal for March airfare...$250 a person roundtrip from HOU - MCO. Definitely check prices for multiple airports as there can be a big difference.

For our trip last month, I started checking Delta about 6 months out. It was $399 RT SLC to MCO. I decided to wait until SW fares came out. When SW fares came out, they were nearly as much, with no non-stops, of course. I waited for Ding fares -- never got one. Finally, ended up buying Delta for $599 per person. Trust me, I won't wait next time!

I went ahead and bought tickets yesterday. But, I'm flying out of smaller airport in the town where DSis lives. The tickets were $75 cheaper than OKC or Tulsa and my mom will be able to drive us, so we'll save money on parking!

(Plus, DSis is the *suprise* for DD this year. It's the perfect excuse for her to be going to the airport with us!)
