She's going over Xmas, I would be worried if everyone didn't have a room key if the parks start to close due to overcrowding and you have to be a resort guest to get in. Plus no EMH for somebody.

OP, it's really nice that you want to take your son's friend but maybe this just isn't the year to do it? It sounds like you have your heart set on POP and your budget is set as well. While POR is a lovely resort, beautifully decorated for the holidays, and do-able - it will be a tight squeeze. If space doesn't become available for a family suite or cabin maybe you can just let your son's friend know that you really wanted to include him but the WDW resorts are really full and there just isn't a room available that will accommodate everyone. I'm sure that while he will be disappointed he will understand.
Otherwise, if you have decided absolutely to take him, I would recommend calling WDW immediately and changing your reservation before POR is sold out which would mean that you won't have the option to include him because, quite honestly, POP is out if he is going to be part of your group.

When we stayed at POP there was as family on the bus taking about how they had 6 in their room there. I didn't say anything, but I don't see how they did it. I can see fitting in the fifth person by the bathroom area, but I honestly don't see how they got 6 people in there.

So I am sure this happens (families with 5-6 in a room). The biggest draw back is not having the KTTW card for extra magic hours.

I have no idea what Disney would do if they found out you had extra people in your room.

If they found out they would ask you to get another room, if one was available. If one is not available, part of your group would be homeless.

The occupancy limits are set by the fire code, so there's absolutely no way they'll knowingly allow you to put additional people in the room. If you ask, they'll say no.

If you leave someone off the reservation, that person will not be able to use Magical Express or take advantage of EMH at the parks. At YC/BC/BCV, the extra person won't be able to get the wristband that allows them to enter the pool area. Some other resorts do resort ID checks in the pool area.

Since it is a fire code violation, Disney does have the right to require parties found to be over the occupancy limit to get a second room, or to leave the premises if they can't or won't get another room. They don't make a practice of coming into rooms and counting heads, but I have heard more than one report of over-the-limit groups being tossed out of resorts, so if they do find out about it, they're sort of legally bound to do something about it.

I'm sure "plenty of people do it" but that doesn't make it right. If Disney didn't care they wouldn't have rules.

But they do care and they do kick people out who have too many people in the room. That could put a real damper on a Christmas trip.

One extra person isn't going to make a difference and I don't see why you should pay another $82 a night for another person.

Bottom line is that we do not get to decide the WDW rules, we just can choose to follow them or not. I don't much care what others do as long as I am not negatively impacted and becasue I am home and not trying to use any resort facilities I have not horse in this race. All folks are doing here is discussing the potential problems that could happen if the OP decides to try to house 5 people in a room that is designed for four. The problems are a reality and if she chooses to chance it at least she does this with her eyes open. Kind of like you have a condo and have signed an agreement with your association not to have a live Christmas tree. You take a chance and buy one anyway. You decorate it, and hope noone sees that it is there. Your association may find out and make you remove it. Chances are that no one will know if you are careful but there is always the chance that someone will see it and report it. Same thing. The differenc is that you just remove a tree, the OP needs to make sure she has a backup plan for accommodations.

I understand what you are saying OP. We are a family of 5 and I have often wondered can I sneak by this time. We NEVER have, not that we didn't think about it. I am a wuss and a do-gooder according to my white trash family (you know take a girl out the trailer park blah blah blah). I have always felt I would be punished for breaking the rules either in this life or the next.

Anyway we have stayed offsite and on and we loved POR. I have 3 kiddos and all of them fit fine on the trundle. The boys were over 9 but we are a pack of dwarves. We are going back over spring break and we are staying either at POR or ASMu Family Suites. Disney has approved POR for us even though my kids are teens. If you can't stay on property try The Best Western by DTD. It isn't Disney owned but it is right there. The rooms are giant, and even though it is a bit worn down it still is ok for budget minded families.

One person does make a difference in the Fire Code. If Disney were caught allowing people to exceed the occupency limits, they would be heavily fined.

Not to mention each resort is set up to handle a certain number of guests. Adding an extra person to each room would put a huge strain on all the public areas, including the busses. Think about an extra 2880 people running around the Pop that shouldn't be there. I would be horribly packed.

I agree with this. Georgette is asking for opinions, not judgement. My feeling on following the rules: YOu can follow them or not follow them. But if you don't follow them, you don't get to complain what the consequences were. And that is all that is being pointed out here...you can try and sneak a fifth person in your room...but if you do, that person won't be able to use certain amenities, and if discovered you will be required to get another room or leave the property. It is Georgette's choice of what to do with that information.

OP... we are a family of 5 and our first trip to WDW was at POR. I was very disappointed at the time that we couldn't book the value resorts. They looked so much more "Disney" to me than POR.

I was so wrong. We have been glad ever since that our first experience was at POR and not a value. It was very nicely decorated for xmas, Santa came to the lobby. It was more upscale than the values and the pool was a lot better for my kids with the water slide and the whirlpool. You can also take a trip over to POFQ for a change of pace and use the pool there as well.

We have since stayed DVC for most our our 7 vacations since that first one, but POR will always hold a special place in our hearts as our "first" resort. We have also stayed at a variety of values and moderates with larger groups. So I can compare our stays.

Our kids love it there at POR and they have fond memories of that first trip.

BTW they were 4, 6 and 9 that first trip. So don't worry about your little one. Also, there are horses there to watch, fishing poles for rent and boats to DTD to ride. Values, although bright and fun, are not particularly xmassy (word??) and are a concrete jungle of sorts. I don't think their decorations are as good at xmas as POR.
