Will paper Fastpasses be phased out?

Once the Fastpass+ system goes live to all park guests, do you think Disney will phase out the paper Fastpasses? I got that impression from reading some comments in some other threads, but maybe I'm reading too much into things. I'm someone who embraces new technology, but at the same time, paper Fastpasses have their advantages.

When FP+ goes fully online there will no longer be "paper" FastPasses.

It may take awhile due to the many glitches in Fastpass Plus but Disney is trying to discontinue paper Fastpasses as quickly as it can in order to cut down on paper consumption and refuse and also associated labor costs such as refilling the machines.

It must be remembered that each time a guest tries for a (paper) Fastpass ahead of time or with an invalid ticket, whether or not intentionally, additional paper waste with a black bar "not a valid Fastpass" is generated. A hidden additional source of paper waste is rolls with a small amount of material remaining (called stub rolls) that are thrown away because the CM has a route and schedule to service the machines that does not correspond with the actual (unpredictable) moment a machine may run out (of paper, not ride slots).

It probably won't take that long. Glitches can be cleared up quickly.

First of all. . .OP. . .love your Avatar. . .GO O's.

My follow up is for 11290, you are a CM from my in depth detecting. . .actually, I think you've said so. So, here's my question.

Obviously, not everyone that is going to the park is gong to be able to create FP's in advance, so how is the system going to work. All ticket media is going to be RFID equipped with the new system, so if your Mike and Sally Apholder, and decide that Wednesday, you will go to MK, you arrive at the park with your Annual Pass, and go in.

The line for PP is 120 minutes, so you want to grab a couple of FP's and go to get a frozen banana. Do you swipe your card and something tells you what time your FP is for and then when you return you again swipe your card, thus eliminating the ability to use your FP late, while still allowing people who don't plan 42 years in advance the opportunity to use the FP system at all, or are you just SOL?

I grow weary of the conjecture, and refuse to listen to some of the "experts" on here, to whom, the sky is falling. Disney has stated that you may not use FP+ in concurrence with the legacy FP system, so what vehicle is going to be in place for those who don't know that we want to ride Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin on April 11, 2053 at between 1115 and 1215?

Sorry, all available fast pass plus tickets for that ride on that date during that time slot have already been sold. But, Disney has this great attraction across the path called Stitch's Great Escape that still has a few FP+ slots for that time.

They should phase out all park tickets and just link them to your photo ID. The barcode thats on DL and ID's could be scanned for number of days you want (or even AP's) when you buy the tickets. The technology is there, they just need to impliment it.

And all 5 year olds have driver's licenses :confused3 I'm guessing that you are being sarcastic? Or am I misunderstanding?

No silly, But in a case for kids Disney could give them some type of ticket thats reloadable until they obtain a DL,non DL, or school ID (I should have stated that in my original post)

Disney could just implant chips under our skin to link our Disney Experience to their Master Construct (to borrow from Tron). Year round we could be monitored for vacation preferences.
People who don't want to be involved in this wonderful advancement can just wait, and wait, and wait in line. Or go to Dollywood.
We are going in one month to Disney and we love it but our vacations there may be coming to and end.:confused3

I'm not trying to pick on you, but why are people so heavily concerned that Disney will know what you're doing while inside the parks? What exactly do you think Disney is doing with your precious park-going habits? Do you think they're sharing your information with the world? Selling it to corporations?

They are aggregating data. They are analyzing trends and whatnot, in the hopes of maximizing guest satisfaction and profits. They are not "spying" on your individual habits so that they can, in the future, bring you down when you try to run for president by saying "Hey, look at this clown... he wasted a morning FP+ on Philharmagic, what a maroon. Don't vote for him."

I'm just honestly wondering what park habits you have that you're terrified of Disney "figuring you out," or what you think Disney might do with this incredibly sensitive data.

I can't talk for everyone but some of the new FP+ technology makes me feel uncomfortable. Technically, if they put sensors in their stores, they could tell (by scanning as I entered and left) that I spend 16 minutes in the Emporium on Main St. If they had sensors within the store then they could tell that I spent 5 minutes looking at mugs, 4 minutes looking at Plush toys, and 3 minutes looking at photo albums. (and the rest of the time lining up to pay) If I use my KTTW to purchase my items, the computer realises I didn't purchase any plush toys. Then suddenly I get a text message offering me 10% off on all Plush from the Emporium :confused3 but only until 2pm - convenient since we have a Mickey FP+ reservation between 1pm-2pm.

I'm not worried they're going to "sell" my data but I wonder what Disney is actually going to do with it.

:rotfl2:

with all of the cameras they have there - I figure they already know what I'm up to. If they want to watch us visit all of the characters over and over again and ride TSM 9 million times that works for me. We're not doing much at Disney that is 'top secret'.

To the OP - I think the theory is there will be stations/ kiosks where you can utilize your FP+ if you don't have a smart phone.

I love the idea of saving paper but we don't have a smart phone so I'm hesitating to embrace FP+ - also we like to preplan some but not that much!

I thought that the kiosks were for customers who haven't pre-booked. Same mechanism as those who prebooked.

I think there is a reason they wrote "Standby" all over those FAQs they put out a while back.

The main question everyone has it how many FP's will be available on the day? :confused3 How many will they allow to be prebooked? 20%? 50%? 75%? 80%? 95%? 100%?

I thought it has already been stated that ALL FP+ slots will be available at 60 days, none held back for same day availability. When they're gone, they're gone.

I'm fairly sure there was a post on the FP+ Thread with a statement from Disney saying that same day FP would still be available but obviously they never said how many. 95% might be prebooked and 5% available for same day.

My guess, total guess....100%. Doesn't mean they will all prebook though, but I don't think they will hold any back intentionally.

I'm fairly sure there was an official notice from Disney stating that there would be some same day FP's available that you could make upon entering park via your smart phone or the kiosks. It was on the FP+ thread a fortnight ago or so.

I saw that...I interpreted that to mean that you will be able to book FPs the day of, which is the point of even having the kiosks etc. But I didn't see anything that made me think that they were saying that they were deliberately going to hold back a percentage for each ride. We shall see I guess.
