Will nice flip flops work at Napa Rose?

We are lucky enough to be dining there on Friday. For DH and DS I have planned polo shirts and nice shorts with sandals. I plan on wearing black capris with a (tastefully)sparkly shirt and black flip flops -- I am trying very hard not to have more than two pairs of shoes for our short trip. Will this work? I'm hoping the sparkly shirt will make up for the shoes . . . :rolleyes1

You'll be fine. I've worn a lot more casual than that in there, sat at the counter, and was never looked at sideways! If you want a real treat, ask for the counter seats and watch the chefs go. It's always amazing and you get a wonderful level of personalized service as the kitchen team chats with you.

I have never eaten at Napa Rose (though am looking forward to trying one of those rock candy coffee drinks) but I have a strong hunch that even the nicer, more upscale restaurants throughout DLR or WDW sort of expect that the customers will be wandering in wearing shorts and flip-flops and tank tops and sweatpants and all kinds of things that people wear in the parks. It just comes with the territory given the location. It would be different if you were eating at an upscale restaurant in the middle of Beverly Hills or Downtown L.A. or San Francisco or something, but in DLR, anything casual is okay, I am guessing. In fact, the ultra dressy people might stick out!

I believe that the Napa has joined the ranks of Bis Casual, as have all the Signature Dining experiences at WDW. However, nowadays, there are designer sandals that strongly resemble fancy flip-flops. I think the flashy top will throw you onto the side of dressed up. :thumbsup2

That's what I thought - about the flashy top! I thought that may be considered pretty dressy for DLR. In any case, again, I have not eaten at Napa, but last year, when we stayed at GCH and wandered past Napa Rose quite a bit, I saw several folks in shorts (in December, which was funny) and track suits and sneakers and things coming out of the restaurant. I recall thinking it was amusing that a relatively upscale restaurant on the Disney property would attract the 'sporty' crowd.

In any case, even if Napa Rose has gone Bis Casual, I have a hunch they would not be shocked and aghast if people came in wearing their most casual gear - Mickey Mouse t-shirts and sandals and all. We are going to attempt to do a dessert-only meal at Blue Bayou in October, and I know that whatever we are wearing in the parks, that is what we are wearing at Blue Bayou! Then again, Napa Rose is a little more sophisticated than Blue Bayou, and Blue Bayou is very dark, so no one can tell what you are wearing half of the time anyway!

Hey girl. Remember that one thing people either don't know or forget is that the Napa has it's own bar/lounge that is accessed through the same doors - you walk to the podium/desk and then turn right and you are in the lounge. You can defintiely wear whatever you want to get a drink or cappucino with rock candy.:beach:

That being said, I have definitely not met the BisCas on a couple of hot summer days a few years back - I felt like a complete grub, but then since we were regulars, no one batted an eye. It's gotten a bit more upscale since they have had a lot of major national publicity over the last few years (and the prices going up fostered some of that, too.)

That is a good point, Nancy! The people in the shorts, sneakers and track suits that we saw last year probably were in the lounge with the rock candy/cappucino and not the actual restaurant itself. I just remember chuckling to myself because I could tell they were tourists who thought they were supposed to be wearing shorts in California, even though, if I recall, it was 40 degrees outside! Meanwhile, Californians are likely wearing pants! And I think you are right - the increased publicity for Napa Rose has probably enhanced the upscale image/aspect of it. I don't know if I will eat at the restaurant any time soon but I do want to sit in the lounge.

Napa Rose does NOT have a dress code. A great decision by them and an obvious one given the location of the restaurant. I really like this because it open up fine dining to us average folks who are usually intimidated by the hoity-toityness of restaurants at this level.

However, keep in mind that this is a genuine 5-star restaurant. This is the only restaurant in the world that has 42 Level I sommeliers and many awards... this place is the real deal. Personally, I like to dress up a little to pay respect the General Manager and Chef.

Enjoy yourself though. My wife an I had a great meal there and were finishing up just after closing. While walking out I saw their humidor and the staff encouraged me to stay, have a cigar... they offered me a brandy and lit the fire on the patio just for me and my wife. This was AFTER they had closed. This place is great... a wonderful and knowledgeable wait staff and some of the best food in the world... all at the Happiest Place on Earth! You couldn't ask for more!

Thanks for all of the replies, folks. I think that we will pass without causing any problems. I've worn the "flashy top" to Napa Rose before as well as Jiko and California Grill. It's more a pixie dust kind of flashy as opposed to a disco ball kind of flashy. Now if only time will pass quickly so we can get to DL . . .

My family and I went in t-shirts and shorts when we decided to eat there. We weren't planning on dining there, but my mom was like, "Let's try it!" We didn't even have any reservations! I kinda felt out of place since a lot of ppl were dressed nicely, but I knew that there wasn't a dress code and some other ppl were dressed casually too. I guess if you have the money, no one cares what you look like. ;)
