Will Never Ever Do Summer Again

We were there at the end of July also and had a great time. Don't get me wrong, it was HOT! but still great. We usually like to go in February or mid December to avoid the heat and crowds, but we went with a large group of family (16 total) this time and had to work around other family members' schedules.

I've been during the summer before and had some really bad experiences with the Brazillian tour groups so I was really worried about that, but am pleased to say that most of the ones I came across were very pleasant. They were a little loud, but that's understandable for any group of teenagers. We only had one incident where we were in line for Space Mountain with about 8 other family members and a large group cut in front of me, cutting me off from the rest of my party. It was the part of the line before you go into the building and they just came in from the side and moved me out of the way. I just went around them and re-joined my family. The people behind me surprisingly didn't go around them and just let them cut. :confused3

All in all, I wouldn't choose to go in the summer, but I'm glad I did this time. We had a blast!

Because I teach and won't take time off during the school year we usually go in July. (sometimes the end of June) It is hot and crowded and the tour groups can get annoying (taking chunks of fast passes at a time), but for us, it's either then or never.

Because of my DH's travel schedule for work, we had to cancel our July trip. (now going the week after Xmas)

For all of you (and there seems to be a lot) who hated being in the heat, and the crowds and the tour groups, at least you went and since many of you will not be going back next July, there will be shorter lines for the rest of us who enjoy that time of year.

We went in August one year, and just went to the park in modest (T-shirt and short-looking) swimsuits and stayed wet. Yes, we looked like "ugly Americans", but we were comfortable. We brought a change of clothes with us and rented a locker for the air-conditioned restaurants. We also followed the Unofficial Guide touring plans to the letter, and got to the parks every day when they opened. Thus, no lines, no problem. I prefer heat to March (we froze at night), and we can go to the water parks in comfort in the heat. To each his own, but we love the UG touring plans!

It's hard to imagine how the food quality at PT Cafe could DROP!!! :rotfl2:

That said, having lived in Fla for three years way back when WDW first opened, now we always go in the fall, and this year the winter EXCEPT we do have have plans next year to venture there at the end of August - but it will only be the two of us and we'll pick and choose activities.

Viki: When you mention going in the fall, which month do you refer to. I am looking at going the first week of Oct. but after looking at historical weather I am starting to think maybe the end of november as I cannot stand the heat and humidity. Temps in high 70's would be okay but the high 80's and 90's would make me sick.

Anyone else with experience in fall can reply.

Thanks,

Deb.

We went last year -first week in Nov- thinking the weather would be perfect & the kids wouldn't miss many days. I was not prepared for how darn HOT it was! Not sure if that was unusual, but our entire week was around 90 & humid as August in VA. A shock but still enjoyable as far as crowds go. We spent much more on drinks than I had planned!

Yes, indeed, it can be in the 80s or snowing in December. As a kid, I remember many a morning standing waiting for the school bus with my HUGE, blue, down to my ankles blue poncho (that my grandmother had hand-made) over my head and snowflakes dancing on my nose!

::yes::

We were there July 13 to 20 and our trip was absolutely magical. We got there early, used Fastpass at every opportunity, used our mister fans and enjoyed the pool at WL in the afternoons. It was hot, but it was hotter here in No. Va. Also, we found plenty of opportunities to get out of the heat. Mickey's Philharmagic, The Land at Epcot, The Living Seas at Epcot, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Festival of the Lion King, It's Tough to Be a Bug, I could go on and on.

Sorry it took me so late to reply to this one...

If that's really the case, then why mention the ethnicity ("hispanic" & "brazillion" (sic)) at all?

Good point; maybe this is something you should ask the OP.

Why were Brazilians singled out by some of those who posted here? Maybe it was all the Portugese being spoken by all of the members of the tour groups during their visits. Possibly it was because of the Brazilian flags and emblems on the matching shirts of the tourists. Or maybe it's just because it's not the first time this has happened at the parks. Just do a search; maybe you'll get results like these:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=792004
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=737403
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=863712
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=857591

Read through them when you can. There's plenty of opinion to go around, both good and bad. The only problem is that sometimes people hear only what they want to hear, and things can become a bigger issue than they truly are.

Take a look again and read what people are posting here (including myself). You'll see the recurring theme is NOT how bad foreign tourists are, but how in spite of all the obstacles in the parks you can still have a wonderful experience at WDW during the summer.

With that said, I think it's about time to put all of this alleged racism to bed, don't you think?

To all, thanks for your patience and understanding.

Oh, come on. The OP wasn't the rude one. If the Brazilians were, why can't she/he say so? It's not about being racist. Give me a break. I don't see anyone stick up for parents with strollers when people complain about those with strollers who are rude. I don't post that those complainers are racist against people with children. Read what you post before you post it. It really sounds ludicrous.

To the OP, I don't blame you one bit for complaining. A Disney trip is an expensive one and you have every right to expect it to be as wonderful as possible. I'm glad you informed this board of what you experienced. I would not tolerate nor find amusing any of the antics you encountered on your vacation. I am hoping I do not run into these groups on my next trip.

AMEN!!

We were at WDW for a family reunion August 1-5. While it was hot and crowded, we were able to have a great time! I was actually surprised at how nice most people were that we encountered, considering how drained we all felt due to weather conditions!

We just returned yesterday. It was very hot and humid and we saw lots of parents as well as children having meltdowns, but I think I saw more parents losing it with their kids. Well, heck, I know I was very frustrated with my DS on at least one occasion, but I tried to stay calm all while trying to get my message across to him that he'd best straighten up. The heat and crowds can really get to you. I have to say my biggest complaint was people that would just plow you down if you didn't move out of their way. We encountered this not only at the parks but in the halls at the resort too. Or large families that congregated in the resort hallway to make plans and they would barely move to let us through. I'm glad to say though that I did not encounter one rude CM this trip. That made me very happy. Everyone was very nice and accomodating. I just try to take a deep breath and try to not let rude people get to me, even though it's sometimes very hard to do!

I am not trying to be rude. DD and I went in July of 2004. There were alot of Brazilian teens there. Is it racisam to make a statement if it is true? Those Brazilian teen groups we encountered were RUDE! Not racisam , just a true fact.

summer can be quite harsh, I remember a 14 day trip several years back, end of june start of july. the crowds, the heat...crazy. Its a hard time. Most people have to go since its when their kids have time off. My trips have mostly been spring and summer, luckily I have 2 trips for this fall, cant wait.

Funny. We went at the same time and met up with the same Brazilian groups. Very loud, boisterous and annoying lot they were. Our first wait was 2 hours for Soarin....

We went Last June and had the best time of our lives. The parks were open longer, We rode everything we set out to ride and rode some more. I guess we were just lucky on that part. I brought a spray bottle of water with us to help keep us cool, beats buying one there. Anyway, that is the only time that I would choose to go! :)

All I'm saying, is that if I was a huge Disney fan that happened to be from Brazil or Mexico, and read that comment, I think I WOULD find that rude. And I don't think we should be trying to turn people away from the disboards. Also, I don't remember calling anyone rude in my comment.

I'm just curious, how do you know the groups are from Brazil? Do they were t-shirts stating so? This is really just a curiousity. I'm not trying to flame OP or anything, but I hear people mentioning Brazil Tour Groups alot on these boards. I mean what sets them out as being from Brazil?

I have a variety of friends from Brazil that live in my home town, and depending where they originate from geographically in Brazil, they have different ethnic background and dialects. I wasn't able to discern that they were from Brazil until they told me.

To the OP, sorry that you didn't enjoy the summer trip. I said the same thing about going over Spring Break this last year. The heat was fine, but too many crowds. I don't like crowds. Sounds like summers brings the crowds and the heat.
