My wife is worried that she will get motion sickness while on the dream. Would anyone care to give their input?

Yes, it's certainly possible your wife will get motion sickness, and some people do barf when they get motion sickness. Does her stomach feel queasy when she rides a small boat? Does she get car sickness?

You're not helping, MUN lol

It is possible, especially the first and last nights when crossing the Gulf Stream. It's hard to tell how a person will react. Some people take motion sickness meds, ginger pills, etc.. just in case.

If she usually gets motion sickness, possibly. There is stuff you can take if it's an issue.

Thankfully I have zero issues - I actually love it more the rockier it gets. If I had to take something because of the motion, I personally would stick to land-based vacations rather than go on something requiring me to medicate or feel miserable.

Have her take Bonine (meclazine) before she gets on the ship and twice a day for the entire cruise and she should be just fine. It is non-drowsy and I have no side affects. I get sick on roller coasters but do not get sea sick by taking Bonine.

I only have one sailing under my belt, but our cruise at most, felt like being on an airplane. You know when you get up to go to the bathroom or stretch your legs on a long flight? You can feel the plane moving under you. That's sort of how I felt on the ship. I did have vertigo once, but I don't get car sick, so I may not be the best to judge by, but that was my experience.

what kind of boats/ferries has she been on before? Only little ones or has she done a larger one..? We're not trying to be unhelpful, but without knowing your wife its hard to say!

Unless you give more info about your wife, we can't help you.

If she is like my DMIL (who gets motion sickness on everything, and i do mean everything), then, yes. But, there are things to do / take to help it out.

If she is like me and can ride any and everything w/o getting motion sickness , then, no.

Like I said, help us help you. Are you going to get motion sickness?

A ship is like a floating city. Just because your wife gets sick on a small boat doesn't mean she will get sick on a cruise ship. I get motion sickness but I have never thrown up in all of my 20 cruises. Sometimes I get a headache on board I never get a head ache on land so I know motion sickness will be coming. I take a Bonine and is fine.

I get very sea sick (also car sick if the road is windy or if I'm not looking at the road). I have not cruised yet, not I have been on all day boat trips on various oceans and it never fails: if I forget my medication, I will feel very sick and most likely throw up; if I take it, I am completely fine. I take meclizine. And fwiw, my fil is the same, and he had cruised many times.

I have terrible problems with motion sickness on rides, cars, small boats and even swings. I take Bonine the first few days (start a day or two ahead of time) & have never gotten sick. The first night for me is a little wobbly but after I get past that first day I am ok. The first night I usually eat pretty light and on the bland side just in case. We always get mid-ship on Deck 7 & I will tell you my best sleep ever is on a Big Cruise Ship.

While a cruise ship is large, it's barely a blip in the magnitude of the ocean. Before our first cruise people said the same thing to us and I think it did a disservice to my husband and me, as we were caught off guard by the constant motion of the ship. We both got very seasick the first night, but were able to get it under control with Bonine and a good night's sleep. We still felt constant motion the rest of the cruise, and every cruise since, but as long as we take Bonine we don't get seasick anymore. I believe people who say they don't feel the motion, obviously, but I like to speak for those who do, so people who feel it don't think they're crazy.

How about those who get car sick, air sick, altitude sick, sick on thrill rides. ... Can't not live your life just limiting yourself to land-based, close to home vacays. That's no fun (take it from me)!

Fortunately none of those apply to me. :)

I get motion sickness on small boats, back of buses, and swings but the cruise never bothered me at all. I bring meds to take just in case.

My DH got mega sick on our first cruise, ruined the first couple of days because once you're sick it takes a couple days to recover. He does have a tendency to get sea sick. So now he always gets the patch and it works great for him!
