I will be at Disney next month and have not weighed this much EVER!!!! To get an idea about my size, I wear size 22 jeans and carry most of my weight in my hips. Are there any rides that I should avoid?? I just have this fear of trying to fit on a ride and having the CM say "Sorry, you don't fit!" And then having to do the "Walk of Shame" in front of everyone in line!! (I had that happen to me once at the county fair and was so embarrassed!! :guilty: )
Thanks in advance for the help!! :grouphug:

I was a size 24 in pants and never had a problem with any of the rides at WDW. I say was cause I am now down to a size 16. I know people who are larger than size 24 and haven't really had issues either. WDW makes rides so they can accomodate people of all sizes. :thumbsup2 I don't think you will have any problems. The only thing is with the turnsyles you might need to go through sideways. Although at most attractions they have done away with these and use some other sort of counter.

Enjoy your trip and have a fantastic time. :thumbsup2

You will be fine. Here is a site that will help set your fears at ease :

WDW At Large (AllEarsNet)

If you look at the menu on the left hand side of the page, you can see things like pictures of the attraction ride vehicles (so you can see how open most are), and other important information.

Good luck!

I'm a size 18 and the only ride i found to be uncomfortable was astro orbitor and goofys barnstormer. but then again they are more made for small children.

Yep, you should be just fine. I don't know about a few of the "smaller looking" rides like Dumbo, but I was fine on everything I went on, even when I was a size 30 (around 2000). When we went in 2005, I was about a size 22 like you, and newer rides were just fine. So no worries... have fun!

of them are just fine, too. Disney has been very smart how they engineer all the rides.

I think the biggest concern is joining someone else on a ride like Thunder Mountain in MK. Because it's so jerky and you are forced to move side to side and you may affect your fellow passenger and push towards them too much. I'm bigger and I have friends and family that are on the petite side. I don't want to feel like I'm squashing them.

As others have said, you will be fine! At my heaviest, I was 250 pounds, size 22 and was fine on everything. Astro Obitor is hard to get in and out of but I fit okay once I was in there. And everyone looks kinda funky getting into those rockets! Don't worry, have a wonderful time. I too did the walk of shame once at Six Flags over Texas but Disney is much more size friendly. Wear comfy shoes and enjoy! And definitely check out that link NewEnglanDisney gave you, it will totally make you feel better and get you all excited for the fun you will have!

The only thing I found to be a problem was walking all day with my extra weight. I am like you last trip to WDW I was at the heaviest I have ever been and I found that that trip compared to others was the most tiring.By the end of the day my back hurt and my legs were killing me.

I'm glad I found this thread. I'd been reading that there are a lot of small seats. And I've put on some weight since last year. :guilty: But this thread is making me feel better, since I'm just now a size 16, so it's probably just me over-worrying.

The feet issue really is the thing to worry about.

Here are a few tips:

1. Either wear 2 pairs of socks or special socks made for running, walking, or hiking that is sold at sporting goods stores. You may try wearing 2 pairs of those too.

2. Make sure you have well worn in athletic shoes.

3. Drink lots of water.

4. Put you feet up as much as possible when not in the parks.

5. Take an Advil/Tylenol before going to the parks each morning.

6. Eat bananas!

7. Try to get a lot of exercise (walking) done before you go if possible.

We tend to tour commando style from park opening to park close for 5 or 6 days straight.

In 2002, I knew I was in trouble with my feet by lunch the 1st day. On our last trip, I wore 2 pairs of special socks each day, and didn't have any problems until well into day 3. I think that had more to do with me having to go back to regular socks actually.

I got the other tips while on DIS boards, and will try those on the next trip!

Last time I went on the Barnstormer, I was a size 6 and it was still uncomfortable :teeth:

I've been a size 16 at WDW and no problems. I know my aunt is about your size if not a bit larger and has zero problems with the rides. The people I know at about that size who have any issues with some rides are the ones who are over 6' tall. Then it becomese an issue for leg room.

I hear ya! I gained a lot of weight with my pregnancy, Im down to a size 16 (list 46lbs so far)
at a size 8/10 I found the dinosaur ride in AK that swivels around (near the games and next to triceratop spin) to be uncomfortable when riding with a full car.

i would just start walking at least 2 miles each day from now til your trip to get you ready! Have FUN!!

I had heard that the new Nemo ride was pretty snug but my ample sized friend and I both fit fine.

I am more than Pooh-sized,and I have had no trouble on any rides at all. Of course,i go solo on alot of the things, but I fit comfortably.

We have a lot of larger-sized people in my family and none has ever had a size problem with a ride.

i weighed right at 300...most of it tummy and hips...last time i went and I had no issues. You should be fine. I'm going next week...I'm now down to 260 and I'll let ya know when I get back.

You'll be fine. :)

I am a size 30. The only tight spots for me were the turnstiles at Pirates, Tommorrowland Transit Auth. and Carousel of Progress. I would suggest you start walking before your trip and drink lots water when you're there. A good pair of walking shoes are important, just make sure they are broken in before you go. Please don't let your size stop you from trying anything you are interested in riding I have found the Disnery rides to be very accomodating to us pooh sized fans. Have fun you will be fine :thumbsup2

I'll also go with the turnstiles at POTC and CoP. Everything else is OK. Some rides are just a tad harder to get out of, but easy to slip in (ie Splash Mountain) but not hard enough to deter!

My family member (size 22, all stomach weight) only had an issue on Kali River Rapids in AK. The CM's may try to seat you with another person on the bench seat. The issue becomes that there is only one seatbelt to go across both laps. Just tell the CM you are riding solo and you should be fine!

You will be fine, go and have a good time.

I also suggest you go to the page NED provided. That will help you a lot. I referred a friend there and she said that made her not feel self-conscious and she had a wonderful time.
