Will my kids like POR?

We took our first family vacation to WDW last November and stayed at the WL and absolutely fell in love with Disney World.

We want to surprise the kids with another trip this coming December (it will be a Christmas morning surprise). Anyway, we've already got a Disney cruise booked for March of 2009, so we want to do this trip a little cheaper than last years.

My dh and I were thinking about staying at POR this time. But I was just doing some reading, and got the impression it maybe isn't the best resort for kids.

My kids will be ds9 and dd7 at the time of the trip. For people who have gone with kids and stayed there, do you recommend it as a resort for us? We absolutely loved the Wilderness Lodge. And we will have our own car, so transportation isn't quite as important.

Thanks for the help.

WE have stayed @ PORR 2 times.

DS's & DD liked the atmosphere. They liked the pools and the food court.
Good selection for all. Our kids on the last trip were 13, 10 & 7.

Many things to do:

Ferry to Downtown Disney
Water Sports
Carriage Rides
Bicycles (rent)

Again we liked the resort. Rooms were large enough for our family
of 5. Resort is spread out and IMHO a great family resort.

We stayed at POR when our kids were 9 and 5. They loved it! They especially liked Ol Man Island. My oldest was chosen to open up the pool slide on his birthday!!! What a neat surprise that was! Of course, the lifeguard didn't know it was his birthday...it just happened to work out that way. He was given a really cool Tom Sawyer-type straw hat!

We stayed in the Alligator Bayou section and my kids loved the lush landscape and looking for the little lizards (don't know what they are exactly called in Florida!). The food court was fine, and Boatwrights was OK...better for breakfast than for dinner.

We try to stay in a different resort each time, so my kids are adventurous in that way. They also realize that it's a really special treat to be able to go to WDW in the first place, so I doubt they'd complain about where we stay! We are always drilling into them how lucky they are, and how fortunate.

Yes, it is fun! We stayed in the Alligator Bayou section almost four years ago. We rented a surrey bike, and the kids loved that. This was the year my DS had to get stitches the second day we were there, so he could not swim. While I took my DD swimming, my DS and DH rented a little boat. We have also stayed at WL, and the one thing you will notice is it does take longer to get to MK and Epcot since you are farther away. Other than that, I think you will like it. Although Boatwrights breakfast is not as fun as WCC, I think it might taste better! We never ate there for dinner. If you do stay there, go to the Resorts board and ask which building to request. I did, and it was perfect, but I can't remember the number. We were close to the main hall and first bus stop but not right in the parking lot.

Have fun!

Our 7 and 5 year old son's liked it when we were there in December. :) Their favorite resort is the BWI and they both said it wasn't as good as the BWI or the GF but that they liked it and would want to go back again.

we stayed there last easter and my kids loved we are planning another trip there this september...cant wait i loved the feel of the place...my kids as well loved catching the lizards when we would walk to the bus stop or the catch a bite ....i give the place 5 stars

i absolutly loved por. the woodsy setting was great. we had a quiet pool right outside our door, which was fantastic because my dd's love to swim. when we returned, we asked what was their favorite part and they both said the hotel. building 39 was a short walk to the bus stop. they have a pole fishing area, which was great for the kids to do with dh while i slept a little more, and the old man island pool was great. the lifeguards played water games with the kids during the day. if you are loking to relax in the hot tub, go later at night. my only complaint was that all these kids kept running from the hot tub to the cooler pool. it drove me crazy and wasn't very relaxing. the slide closed at 8 (i think) so by 9.30 ish most of the kids were gone. we were there for 9 days, so we had alot of downtime to spare at the hotel. we ate at the foodcourt for 3 of the nights there, and never ate the same thing twice. my favorite part was they had food to go. the kids swam, i relaxed and watched tv, he went and picked up dinner. they also have pizza delivery, it was expensive if you ask me, and not worth it, but it is an option.

this was the view from our door. that's the laundry right behind the pool.

My 3 kids (ages 8,6,3) loved POR! They enjoyed having a big pool and a small pool! My DD3 enjoyed watching the bunnies and lizards on the pathways as we walked around! Plus, you can also use POFQ's pool and the older 2 loved the pool over there! The boatride to DTD-everyone liked this. POR was wonderful for all of us- so much to see and do!!!
