Will my DH kill me before we get to Disney?? OUR FIRST EVER DW TRIP (MAR. 2011 PTR)

The problem I may have with Soarin is actually feeling like I'm soaring....:lmao:.....I have trouble with rides that are simulators (the kind you sit in and it jerks all around as you fly through space destroying aliens or whatever). The Friendshp taxi would be just for the "fun of it". We are the kind of people who ride trolleys just because they are there so this is a "ride" to us. :rotfl: We also plan to ride the monorail just because it's there. Yes we are weird but that's us!! :rotfl2:

While you DO feel like you are Soarin it is a smooth fun soaring. Not jerky motion at all.

I'm joining in on your trip report. We are also going in May but not until the end. You've got some good ADR's, we love Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's is a great place to see the Fab 5. How are you going to tell the boys about your trip? We've decided to surprise our kids this year but we're waiting until we are at the 30 day mark so they'll still be surprised but we'll still get to do a countdown. Looking forward to reading more of your report!

I can't wait that long. After all, I need someone who shares my excitement. I thought DH was going to kill me tonight when I started talking about changing ADR's. :lmao:

As for telling my boys, we are doing that this week. I have purchased a few little things. I got each of them a "journal" that is hopefully big enough for autographs. I bought them a Disneyworld for Kids book. I'm going to throw in the Disneyworld DVD to watch together and the maps to look at. I'll put all of this in a box with a sign that says, "We are going to DisneyWorld!" It should be fun to watch. I'm going to video it with my camera.

I also had a very nice Dis'er who is sending me 100 Mickey heads for our countdown poster!!! I can't wait til they get here!!!

O.k. I just changed our first night's meal from Coral Reef to Garden Grill. After reading many many reviews on both, I felt it was safer to choose Garden Grill because of the consistency. I'd hate for everyone to hate our first TS at Disney. Thanks for the advice!!

Now I'll feel really bad if you HATE GG! :rotfl:

The characters are good though! Can't beat that!!

It will be fine. I took your advice and looked it up in several places and the food seems spotty at best. Not a great way to start our trip. If it had been in the middle I might have just left it. :confused3 But since it is the very first TS, I didn't want to start with a bad experience. THANKS for the advice!!!

I am jumping on board! We are going on our first trip to Disneyworld in May also!! :cool1::cool1:

And I think my husband is getting a bit tired of all the Disney talk also. :lmao:

We are staying at Pop Century.

Thanks for following me!! My DH about killed over laughing tonight when he heard my title!! :rotfl: He does get really really tired of hearing "Disney this.....Disney that....." 24 hours a day. I'm not sure why!?!?!? :confused3 :rotfl2:

Sounds like a great place to stay from what I've read on here!!!

We treat the buses as "rides" also. It makes the hassles less irritating. ;)

I answered your questions in the quote. THANKS for all your help!!!! This is the kind of feedback I need before making large mistakes!!

I just wanted to say that this sums up how we feel about food, too!

My husband and I have never been on vacation together. Not even a honeymoon. We're planning to take our daughter to WDW in September of 2012. I'm so excited! Obviously, I have plenty of time, but I wanted to follow your plans and see how the trip goes!

We told the kids last night!!! They didn't have one of those TV commercial reactions that I was so hoping for. :sad2: Instead they just kinda sat there. Here's how we told them - I had created a package for them to open. It had the Disney vacation DVD, the Disney maps, Birbaum's (spelling?) WDW guide for kids, and two autograph books. I put it all in a box with a paper at the very bottom that said, "We are going to DisneyWorld!!" that I wrapped up like a present. After they opened it, we watched the DVD and they began to get some idea of what Disney World is (I know sheltered huh?) and then they began to get pretty excited.

My DS4 invited most of his class to come with us today at school!!! :rotfl:I told him not to do that because it is not nice and he said, "It's o.k. mom they don't mind coming too." :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Following along on your journey! How exciting for your first trip!! I took my DH for his first trip last time and he really enjoyed himself (hence why we're able to go again, hehe)!
And I sooooooo know what you mean about those commercials with the parents telling the kids and the kids freaking out! Makes me get all emotional every time! But in a good way! Can't wait til we take our little Emma and will hopefully get to surprise her, too!
I'm sorry your kiddos didn't have the "jump up and down, flipping out" reaction. It probably took it a second to kick in.
And I think you guys will really like the Garden Grill. It's the one place my DH requested for our 2nd trip.
I'm also real queasy when it comes to certain motion rides. Soarin' was not bad at all. Mission Space was not so much fun. I actually had to tell myself "Don't get sick. Don't get sick." I made it, but will not be doing it again, and that was the Green version! Can't even imagine what Orange is like! :crazy2:
Can't wait to read more!!

O.k. one more PTR post for today. I want to get a plan together for Epcot and I want your opinions.

Be at park at rope drop.

Head to Soarin and grab a FP for DH. If line is short, let DH ride and decide if the rest of us can handle it. :rotfl:

Ride Living with the Land.

Head to Imagination Pavilion and ride Journey into Imagination with Figment.

Go to the Epcot Character Spot and take pics with the characters.

Head over to Test Track. Let DH try it out for us. (Do you see a pattern here?) :rotfl2: If he approves, grab FP for later in the day.

Walk to Spaceship Earth and ride it.

Head over to Sunshine Seasons and have lunch.

Nap at hotel??? Swimming??

Go get a KimPossible Kimmunicator and explore the countries as we complete the missions. I read somewhere that they have fast passes (or something similar???) for these.

Make sure to ride The Three Caballeros and Maelstrom as we go.

Dinner ADR at Garden Grill.

Watch Illuminations after dinner.

Too much?? Missing something??? Anything out of order? Any other suggestions?

Bridget

I am in on your PTR!!

Theres nothing like standing in front of the castle for the first time (I still cry, after 4 trips.. lol)

A must is Fantasmic firework in HS...

This made me :rotfl:
I was just reading a thread about surprising people. It was mentioned that the reactions of the surprizee is not always what the surpriser expects.

If the line for Soarin is short just let DH ride and then get FPs for all of you if you decide to ride. Otherwise you'll have to come back later for DH's FP and then decide.
If you decide not to ride Soarin I'd have DH check out Test Track next in case you decide to ride it (so you can pick up FPs). This won't work if you've already have FP for Soarin as you have to wait to pick up new FPs anyway.

Your plans sound good.

I definitely agree with the change to GG from LS. We had ressies for LS in Dec 2009 and the smell was so bad we didn't stay for dinner, ended up going over to Sunshine Grill. Now I love aquariums and have annual passes for the Baltimore Aquarium but this smelled like a dirty old fish market, never again. On the other hand the GG strawberry vinegrette has become a family favorite. Your Other ressies sound great, CP and CM are two of our favorites, btw we will be there May10-18 AKL. Two oldsters enjoying feeling young again.

So yesterday I went off to school like always only to find out that ummmm I'm "not needed" anymore. This is after 5 years at the same private school so as of today I am unemployed. Wow, how life can change in the blink of an eye.

Yes we are still going to Disney but since my kids went to school where I was teaching, we pulled them out Friday to put them in the local public school. I do not know how the school that they will be starting feels about people being absent for Disney vacations. Our state (Louisiana) has very strict attendance laws so I'm thinking it's probably frowned upon.

Now with all that said, we may have to move our vacation to MARCH.....yes I know a big jump in planning and being already behind in the game of ADR's. It may change to March 5-11. What are the crowds like in March at Mardi Gras time? Our kids have the whole week off for it so I figured this would be much better than missing a week if they frown upon our vacation.

I am going to try my best to leave it for May but I'll know after Monday what the final decision may be. Disney may be closer than we think!!! :rotfl:

I'm in LA too. It all depends on if their teachers feel they can get caught back up with the rest of the class in pre work and post work. You'll have to get permission from the principal. I know it sucks... but that's what they always told my mom back when we were in school when she wanted to pull us out for Disney.

I won't mess w your ADR again...everyone is different. I would definitely do TT(all) Mission space and Soarin are motion rides so maybe you would not like them. I would include Canada Film! It is superb!:thumbsup2

Well that just blows!:headache: Crowds will be OK in March. Weather cooler so you might get some days too cool to swim! Parks will be comfortable though! Good Luck w job search!
