Will my cutlery multi-tool be allowed?

Hi,

I’ve read through some advice which hasn’t quite answered my question. It’s a weird one.

It’s my birthday just before I go to Disneyland for the first time since I was about a year old (so 33 years ago). I’m currently trying to reduce my waste so my brother and sister-in-law bought me a cutlery multi-tool for my birthday. I’m checking it in my luggage and not bringing the one with the knife on it, but one part has a fork, corkscrew and bottle opener on it (the bottle opener maybe being as sharp as the fork)

So my question is do you think I can bring the fork, bottle opener, corkscrew multitool to the park. Or will this be confiscated at security?

Thanks in advance! 😍

I guess maybe I don't understand...because why do you think you need any of the those tools at the park? You can get the plastic utensils and just re-use them if that's your worry. I think they would confiscate it, but that's just my opinion. :-)

I presume it’s metal? If so, I doubt seriously that they’ll allow you to bring it in. A corkscrew and/or fork could make a nasty weapon. I’d be surprised if they let it through.

You don't need any of that so I wouldn't take a chance at getting held up or holding other people in the security line up.

Since they were gifts, I’m assuming you wouldn’t want to just throw it away if they didn’t let you through with it. You’d go back to the hotel put it back and come again. I think you’re better off just not bringing it because there is a definite possibility they wouldn’t let you in with it.

Pretty sure they will not allow it. But as others have pointed out, there is no scenario where you will need a bottle opener or a corkscrew in the parks. As for forks, tableservice restaurants will have metal forks. Quick service restaurants will have plastic forks that you can use, and reuse. And if you are absolutely, totally against using a plastic fork in any scenario, then there are plenty of things in the park that you can order that do not require a fork to eat.

I really doubt that they'll let you in with a bottle opener and a corkscrew. Same for metal utensils. leave it at home.

As all pp have noted, the risk is real that security will ask you to return it to the car/hotel or throw it away on the spot. And there is no need for you to bring a corkscrew or bottle opener into the parks -- any restaurant that would require one of these will have them on site. As for utensils, there are CS locations that use metal utensils, if you really want to avoid plastic, e.g. Plaza Inn and RDZ. The gift sounds like a nice one, so I would hate to have it be thrown away at bag check. Better to leave it in a safe place and use what is easily available in the parks and in DTD.

Thanks everyone. Will leave it home and maybe just take a spoon.

The worst security can do is say no, making you go back to the room or car. They will not demand disposal. DH forgot he had his Emerson Commander tactical knife on him, a clear no-no, and all they did was decline his entry until he could return without it.

You can recycle and keep with you any of the disposable flatware found at the parks, and of course, all of the table service locations provide metal flatware for dining.

You never know what they'll want you to toss. My daughter had some blue tape in her purse that she forgot about it and security didn't let her take it in. She didn't care and just told them to keep it or toss it.

Both my husband and daughter were able to come through several times with theirs and then had one security check person randomly decide to refuse it... so this is very much ymmv.

Blue tape?! Why on earth were they concerned with tape? I can’t imagine a scenario where tape could be a problem.

I think they usually use green tape to mark things off but regardless, I would think the concern would be someone putting tape (or taping up something) around the park.

It’s not just a check for security threats, but also a check for anything that could be used to deface the park or attractions. And since there’s not really any need to have a roll of tape in the park, it makes sense that it’s confiscated.

My son uses hard plastic reusable sporks for his school lunches . I get them in the camping section of one of our local stores . If you don’t want to contribute to the waste over a day in the park then you could bring something like this into the parks. But seriously you could also just use one from the park and use that all day ?

Security gives guests the choice of disposing of the item in question (they do not demand this) or of returning said item to the car or to the hotel. A surprising number of guests choose to dispose of their items and head straight to the parks, rather than take the time to return their items to the car/hotel.

As pp have said, the major concern is vandalism. Colored tape, spray paint, large permanent markers, etc. which could be used to quickly deface park property can be confiscated at bag check. Swing dancers used to bring in duct tape for the bottom of their shoes, and security CMs did not like that at all.

I just think it’s funny...blue tape is probably the least sticky and easy to remove tape there is!
