Will Jan. 2 (Sun) Be a 'GetAway Day' After Holiday Week??

We arrive on New Year's Day and have a plan for what' s left of that day after check-in, Epcot, BoardWalk with PI or JellyRolls at night. I'm thinking that Sun. the parks will empty out as the holiday folks head home and the incoming folks will be just arriving. 2000 was the last time NY fell on a Sat. so I don't expect many to remember Sun., 1/2 2000, but I wonder if the combination of it being the day after the holiday and a Sun., normally a 'travel day' anyway, might cause WDW to empty earlier that otherwise after the X-Mas/NY holiday. Any thoughts on this, or actual experience? I'm planning my day as though it will be a normal to low crowd Sun.

In my experience you are planning well...Generally January 2nd is far less crowded than the weeks prior and January 3 is a ghost town...Great time to come.

Thats what I like to hear.........we are arriving on the first also, staying at Pop!!!

:mickeybar I'm getting hungry for one of these!!!

We walked on just about everything in AK on the Sunday after New Years last year, not sure what the date was? Have fun!

won't be as bad as the previous days but with the way the holidays fall this year, I know that many of our friends are off work on the 3rd and some on the 4th, it probably won't be as empty as if it fell on a weekday.

Regardless....have a great time!

We'll be there 1/1- 1/8 too!
I know a lot of people will be traveling home on 1/2 (Sunday), but do you think 1/1 will still be very crowded?

Hopefully, only us DISers will be there. We'll be at SSR on the first, then checking into BWV for the rest of the trip. I'm just worried about 1/2 and the Osborne lights. It's the last night for them, as well as the first EMH evening for MGM. I hope I won't be battling a big mob to see the lights. And DS is looking forward to riding RnR 8X in a row, he said, so I hope it's not too crowded.

I'm expecting that holiday vacationers will be cramming in a 'last hurrah' and that the parks will be more crowded than I'm used to, which is one reason why we're going with WS and the Boardwalk. We'll resist Commando Style park touring and just get into a Disney frame of mind.

We will be there Jan 1st - 6th! Planning on doing 1 park a day, so we will be in the parks the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th! Hope to see you there! :cool1:

PS...when does the marathon start? Are parks/hotels busier during the time of the marathon?

I think the marathon is the morning of Sat., 1/8, and the only disruption will be that some WDW roads will have restricted traffic. I'm told Disney transport will not be slowed much but folks doing their hopping in cars may be delayed.

Hi, we'll be there from 1/1 - 1/9, hope to see you there too!
I think the marathon this year is on Sunday which worries me a little cause we're driving to the airport that morning. We were at WDW this year from 1/1 - 1/5 and I don't remember it being very busy, the weather was great too :sunny: It's getting so close, I can't believe it!

The marathon is Sunday the 9th and this is not the first year it has been on a Sunday...it was last year as well...

The parks won't be too busy because of the marathon...I know me and my group will probably hobble back to the room after we cross the finish line and crash!!!!

Love to hear this! :cool1: We will be there from 1/2 - 1/11 and were hoping for not-so-crowded parks!

It sounds like a bunch of us DISers will be there! we'll be at WL for the first night then at BWV !
Hope to see some friendly DISers!

Jan 1 will be very crowded at all parks. Commando planning tactics still recommended! Expect MK to possibly close early for entry (did last year). By 1/2 it should start to lighten up.

We'll be there too!! Jan 1-8 staying at ASMo. Going to try to get into Epcot before they close the Land on Jan 2. Seems like quite a few of us will be there at that time! :Pinkbounc

Queen Quinnella,

I thought the Land was already closed, hope you're right. I asked about crowds on New Year's Day and someone who was there last year said Epcot was not bad, so we'll give the Land a shot then. BTW, we'll be joining you @ AllStar for the middle 2 days of our trip.

Hubby and I will be there 1/1-1/6 before hopping over to Universal for 2 days. I'm asking Santa for lower crowds and warmer temps. We'll be at POFQ celebrating our 25th anniversary. I'll be wearing my DIS fanny pack (if I don't chicken out!)!
