We just bought SSR and have to decided to visit in September. Last night we asked some friends to come with us and we are awaiting their decision. Trouble is, I am getting nervous waiting because I am worried it might get all booked up before they reply. I dont know whether we need a one or two bed or exact dates until they get back to us and I dont want to pressure them.

Does anyone know if September is very booked already?

Could I book what I think we need and change it later or will I lose points?

I know I need to hurry up and book before other DVC resort members are allowed to book too!!!!

As only a few buildings are opening to start with I guess there wont be loads of rooms. We could go in a different month if necessary so I guess we should be able to find some availability.

I am getting obsessed, all I can think about is WDW!!!!!!!!! We only got home on 20 December and it is on my mind again already! LOL

If you have a good idea of when you might go and what size you'd like, then go ahead and book something. You can always make changes later if there is availability. The only time there is a problem is if you cancel at 30 days or less. Then the points go into a "holding" account with certain restrictions.

Unless they wait till July or August, you won't have a problem in September. The lightest DVC time of the year is September.

Mandy,
Even though bookings open up for SSR for all DVC members in Feb, there is still the 7month booking priority for non-SSR members--so, you still have some leeway, there, too. I believe non-SSR members can book SSR villas starting Feb 4th for visits from May 17th (SSR opening) through Sept 4th (and then each day later, another booking date opens up to everyone).
I would say that your chances for availability in Sept are excellant. The only time in Sept that I would be remotely worried about booking would be Labor Day weekend.
Also to your advantage is SSR is still in the pre-sale mode and more inventory will be added as more sales are made.
Still, if you have an idea as to your dates, it doesn't hurt to book them. I would only wait if there was a potential of needing to borrow points in one scenario and not needing to borrow points in the other scenario....

Good luck on your first ressie and Welcome Home! :)

Hi! Thanks for all the replies. Our friends have decided to come with us for our first trip to SSR in September!!!! Yippee!! MS is closed right now so I need to wait until tomorrow to book.

We are short of 36 points so we intend to borrow but our membership book says you cannot borrow until your contract has closed. For SSR that is May!!!!

If we now reserve the first night (a Friday) as a cash night can we cancel that later and book it with borrowed points?

This is all rather complicated for a newbie!!!

mrsminniemouse,
Oh, you are so right--good catch! (You are really getting the hang of this :) ) Yes, that is a very reasonable plan. Usually, weekends are available longer than weekdays because of the higher point totals. Hopefully you will not have any trouble adding on the Friday later on. (And you will be covered with a cash ressie just in case it doesn't come through).
